Bringing the radio itself to the hospital would be pointless. A "HAM" radio requires very large antennas to function.
Rarely does Frank Sullivan or his daughter push the transmit button "talk bar" on the ham radio microphone, which is required to transmit their voice over the air. Although many modern day ham radios have an option for the radio to begin transmitting when the user speaks without having to press a button (VOX), the radio depicted in the series appears way too old to have that functionality.
A Ham would not read his call sign "WQ2YV", but "Whiskey Quebec 2 Yankee Victor"
The program is supposed to take place in New York City. AT the crime scene, the Sergeant wears stripes on his uniform that are upside down. This practice is commonplace in Canada, where the series is produced.
