"Cocaine Bear" director Elizabeth Banks has had one wild ride of a career, starring in everything from "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" to "The Hunger Games," but one of her early career standouts is her role as schoolteacher Starla Grant in James Gunn's "Slither." Starla is a small town girl from the fictional hamlet of Wheelsy, South Carolina, pining for her high school sweetheart, local sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) while married to the only rich guy in town, Grant Grant (Michael Rooker). Things get weird when Grant becomes the host for an alien parasite that wants to take over all of Earth, but it still has feelings for Starla. Like Fay Wray and King Kong, Banks must play beauty to a terrifying beast. "Slither" is one seriously gross movie, with slimy slugs, tentacles, exploding people, and more, but it turns out that was a big part of the fun for Banks.

This article contains major spoilers for The Suicide Squad. We have a spoiler free review here.
The Suicide Squad might just be the best Dceu movie yet. Not only is it a sterling ensemble piece about the horrors of American imperialism but it’s also the world’s weirdest buddy comedy. And in a film full of stunning performances–Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, and Daniela Melchior please stand up–we got another killer turn from Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
After kicking all kinds of ass in Birds of Prey, the Mistress of Mischief is back and better than ever. This is a truly emancipated Harley, one who hates the Joker, will kill an abusive man in a second, and who plays a huge part in saving the day after choking out a man with her thighs, of course.

Robbie started off her acting on the silver screen in the Australian soap opera “Neighbours,” which began in 1985 and is still on today. She was part of the show from 2008-2014, and played the role of Donna Freedman.

Robbie’s next TV gig was as flight attendant Laura Cameron on ABC. The show only lasted for one season.
“The Wolf of Wall Street”
Robbie’s big breakout role came opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the bawdy “Wolf of Wall Street,” in which she played a Leo’s wife.

Back in 2017, Warner Brothers announced a Nightwing feature film was on its way. The project would serve as an origin story for the masked identity adopted by Dick Grayson after relinquishing his role as Batman’s wisecracking sidekick, Robin. The studio tapped The Lego Batman Movie’s Chris McKay to helm the superhero caper, with a script by Ozark creator Bill Dubuque. Audiences eagerly awaited the beloved addition to the Dceu and the Bat Family, but then… nothing.
It appeared as if Nightwing joined the ranks of other shelved movies—most notably the Aquaman spinoff, The Trench, David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens, Ava DuVernay’s The New Gods, Greg Berlanti’s Booster Gold, and the Joe Manganiello-starring Deathstroke—in developmental or cancellation hell. But with McKay’s live-action directorial debut, the sci-fi blockbuster The Tomorrow War, landing on Amazon next month, he’s hoping the powers that be will sit up,...

I never thought Harley Quinn would be one of the staple heroes of the DC Cinematic Universe. Sure, you can argue that her Dceu movies haven’t been the greatest, but she has grown has a character. She began as a victim of abuse and as a criminal, then evolved into a more selfless hero. She may always be one of the craziest protagonists in the Dceu, but she’s also becoming a more prominent hero in the Dceu. I mean, she’s still a major member of the Suicide Squad, and still managed to save the world. I’m very eager to see

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn might be the Dceu’s second most prominent female character behind only Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, but until The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max in August, the Joker’s former squeeze has starred in the same number of movies that actually got made as those that failed to make it out of development hell.
The former Harleen Quinzell was always set to play a major role in Warner Bros.’ shared universe, and before her live-action debut in Suicide Squad had even been released, Robbie was already signed on to reunite with director David Ayer in Gotham City Sirens and star in a spinoff alongside Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime, which would have seen the Australian actress working with Focus duo Glen Ficarra and John Requa for a second time.

Long before Birds of Prey was even released, it was clear that the Dceu was looking to position Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as a marquee name in the franchise. After all, you don’t cast such a fast-rising star as one of the most popular characters in the comic book company’s back catalogue without having major plans in store.
Before David Ayer’s Suicide Squad had hit theaters, Robbie was set to reteam with the director in Gotham City Sirens, while a spinoff alongside Jared Leto’s Joker was also in the works with Focus duo John Requa and Glen Ficarra set to write and direct. The antihero ensemble may have raked in almost $750 million globally, but the troubled production went down like a lead balloon with fans and critics, putting both Harley-centric projects on ice.

Despite being around for over seven years, the Dceu has announced just as many projects that never made it out of development hell as it has actual movies. It took Warner Bros.’ shared mythology a long time to settle on a creative direction and that led to numerous titles like Green Lantern Corps, Gotham City Sirens, Nightwing, Ben Affleck’s The Batman and many more quickly stagnating before disappearing from memory entirely.
Justice League was initially announced as the first of a two-part saga, but as we all know, some serious behind the scenes turmoil plagued the Dceu’s all-star epic. Joss Whedon essentially reshot the entire movie at the request of the studio following Zack Snyder’s departure, which led to such a sustained level of backlash from fans that the 300 director was eventually invited back into the fold to finally complete his original vision.

Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn only made her big screen debut three summers ago in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but the character has already experienced plenty of ups and downs in that time. Robbie’s performance was one of the few aspects of the ensemble film that didn’t come under fire from fans or critics, and Warner Bros. moved quickly to keep her at the forefront of the Dceu.
Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens and a spinoff for Harley and Jared Leto’s Joker that was set to be directed by Focus duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa may have been canceled, but the former Harleen Quinzel still managed to headline her own movie thanks to Birds of Prey. Unfortunately, however, the female-driven comic book adaptation bombed at the box office despite solid reviews, leaving the antiheroine’s future in limbo.

At this point, the speculation about what the future holds for Henry Cavill’s Superman is more than likely going to rumble on for eternity until either Warner Bros. or the actor himself come right out and confirm or deny where he’s going to show up next. After all, the Big Blue Boy Scout has been linked to almost every Dceu project on the horizon, as well as many that haven’t been announced yet.
Over the last year alone, we’ve heard that The Witcher star was being dropped from the role and the studio were considering the idea of rebooting Superman with another actor, with Michael B. Cavill then eventually signed on the dotted line to extend his contract to the relief of fans everywhere, but has since found himself the subject of all kinds of speculation.

The brains behind the Dceu have proven that they’re not exactly against the idea of deviating from their original plans for the shared universe, and the franchise’s current trajectory looks a lot different from how it was originally mapped out when they first announced a huge slate of movies back in 2014.
Zack Snyder still hasn’t finished Justice League, although admittedly there was a lengthy Joss Whedon-led detour that eventually brought the project full circle after a relentless fan campaign, and while Henry Cavill may have finally committed his future to the Dceu after much speculation, it still doesn’t look like that Man of Steel sequel will be happening anytime soon, either.

For a while, it appeared as though the critical and commercial disappointment that greeted Justice League marked the definitive end of the Dceu as we knew it, with the culmination of Zack Snyder’s time at the helm of the franchise leading to a soft reboot of the studio’s entire slate over the next several years.
However, now that the seemingly unthinkable has happened and the Snyder Cut is finally a reality thanks to two and a half years of online persistence and a helpful assist from HBO Max crying out for original content in order to establish itself as a legitimate player in the streaming wars, the Snyder era might not be truly over just yet.

Harley Quinn Season 2 Episode 3
Ever since the first episode of this season it’s seemed like Harley Quinn has been building to a Gotham City Sirens inspired arc, introducing different brilliant women from the DC Universe. This week we get our first glimpse at what a real Gotham City Sirens show might look like with the arrival of Catwoman (Sanaa Lathan), who also inspires a little hint of the queer romance that was sorely missing throughout the first season and first couple episodes of the sophomore one.
The Harley Quinn creative team has talked about their slowburn attitude to the relationship at the core of the show and this episode they start to throw a little kindling on the proverbial fire. With Harley Quinn still obsessed with getting vengeance on the Injustice Society, this week she sets her sight on Mr. Freeze and his icy abode.

Chad Stahelski, one of the guys who killed John Wick's dog, is creating new action scenes for the Margot Robbie-led Birds of Prey.
In February, Harley Quinn will finally be freeing herself from the whims of Mistah J, and that means one thing: It’s time to paint the town red. It appears Warner Bros. agrees as they’re bringing in action director and former stunt coordinator, Chad Stahelski, to kick the violence up a notch with all-new action scenes in the Margot Robbie-led Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Earlier this week, an article from Forbes got people talking with its claim that Harley Quinn “is not expected to return” in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, but while the report seemed in line with a previous rumor that had already been making the rounds, it seems that the publication has now heard news to the contrary.
In an amendment added to the same piece about the future of the Dceu, it’s said that Margot Robbie is now expected to reprise her role in Gunn’s follow-up to 2016’s Suicide Squad, with the full update reading as follows:
“Update: I have learned from sources close to production that in fact, the information about Harley Quinn being absent from the new Suicide Squad movie is no longer up to date — she is indeed expected to appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which is expected to begin production later this year.

Jared Leto‘s short-lived time as the Joker may be coming to an end. As you probably saw earlier this week, Forbes ran an exhaustive piece on the DC Extended Universe over at Warner Bros. and we parsed new rumors about Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn movie and “Birds Of Prey.” Specifically, some reports that refute recent trade accounts that posited how Harley Quinn would join the “Suicide Squad” film by James Gunn nor would there be a crossover with the still-in-the-works-apparently “Gotham City Sirens” which is another girl-group superhero film by David Ayer.

Could Tom Cruise end up playing Hal Jordan in DC's Green Lantern Corps? Well, according to a new rumor, the Warner Bros. want the actor for the role! But, there's one condition he is said to have before he does it.
According to Heroic Hollywood, "the current script calls for Hal Jordan to die which Cruise is against. The actor is asking for this part of the script to be changed before he takes the gig."
That's right. Tom Cruise wants Hal Jordan to live if he takes the role. Obviously, he'd like the option of coming back to the role if any sequels that are made.
This wouldn't be the first time that Cruise's name has been attached to the role. Back in 2017, he was included on a shortlist of other actors that included Tom Cruise, Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer, and Jake Gyllenhaal.

It’s going on nine months now since the release and subsequent failure of Justice League and still, a steady stream of behind the scenes photos continue to trickle out online.
Case in point: this candid shot of DC’s finest standing beneath something (or someone), as below you’ll find Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman gawking at what can only be an off-screen enemy – Steppenwolf, in all likelihood, who was later added through special effects.
Reddit presents a different theory altogether, however, and suggests that the Justice League of America is actually about to confront Darkseid in this particular Bts pic, who was named (but never seen) during the film’s theatrical cut. He’s the ultimate big bad of this DC Extended Universe, and the one who sent Steppenwolf to Earth in search of those Mother Boxes.

Actress Margot Robbie's no longer skating on ice, she's down in Costa Rica taking in some surf ... and pretty good at it. The "I, Tonya" star and her hubby, Tom Ackerley, caught a party wave during a late afternoon surfing session. She looked like a pro on her longboard ... then again, she's Australian so surfing is basically in her blood. Afterwards they headed into shore for happy hour and the sunset where Margot blended...

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie would be released under the no-frills title of Joker, but if there’s one way in which this simple name could cause some confusion among audiences, it’s that it doesn’t specify exactly which Joker.
For while the Todd Phillips-helmed picture will serve as a standalone movie that exists separately from the Dceu, Suicide Squad actor Jared Leto plans to reprise his role as the Clown Prince of Crime in several future films, including Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens.
The double-casting was met with some objections, not least by Leto himself, but for Kevin Smith, this could be a good opportunity for the franchise, voicing his support for the plan at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con.
“I’m all for it. I know a lot of people got sh*tty about it… I’m all for it.

Jared Leto loved his stint as a comic book character in Suicide Squad so much he has signed up for another. This time Leto enters the universe of Sony’s Spider-Man after being cast in Morbius.
As yet, Leto’s character details have not been revealed. Safe House director, Daniel Espinosa will take the helm on the pictures. Lost in Space’s Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama have penned the script. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster.
The film will centre on Dr Michael Morbius a living vampire and antihero. In the comics, he was originally a scientist from Greece but due to a debilitating blood disease, he developed an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshocks. Its side effects turned him into a pseudo-vampire (Vampire mutant) who needed to consume blood in order to survive and gained typical vampire characteristics such as an aversion to sunlight,...

Sony has found their Morbius in an actor that's become familiar with the superhero genre, as of late! More on Jared Leto's casting within...
It's definitely a busy time at Sony Pictures, specifically their Marvel department. Currently they're hard at work trying to develop their Spiderverse, as is evident by the Silk announcement earlier in the week. However, that news seems almost like an afterthought in comparison today's casting news for Morbius the Living Vampire.
Academy Award-winner Jared Leto has signed on to play the title character Morbius in the self-titled film directed by renowned Scandinavian filmmaker Daniel Espinosa (Life).
Accolades aside, what makes this casting so interesting is that 2 years ago Leto debuted his version of The Joker in Warner Bros.' Academy Award-winning Suicide Squad movie, as part of the Dceu. Moreover, he's said to part of 3 other Dceu films, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, and The Harley Quinn solo film.

Following the one-two punch of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the ill-fated Justice League, it’s fair to say that writer-director Zack Snyder has forged a deep understanding of Gotham’s Caped Crusader and, more specifically, Ben Affleck’s performance as Bats.
So while we’re excited to see a filmmaker of Matt Reeves’ caliber come in and craft his own rendition of the World’s Greatest Detective, we can’t help but wonder what Snyder’s version of The Batman would look like. Well, wonder no more, as video editor Jon Arryn Garza (h/t Heroic Hollywood) has cut together a really rather awesome trailer that imagines the director’s take on the upcoming DC solo movie. And it’s a doozy.

With news of a Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff movie along with an origin story centering on the Clown Prince of Crime – for the record, the latter takes place outside of the Dceu – there have been a lot of question marks raised over Warner’s DC Extended Universe and, in particular, Jared Leto’s future in it. Or lack thereof.
To his credit, the Blade Runner 2049 actor voiced his commitment to the role of Gotham’s most notorious villain for both Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens earlier in the summer, even if the latter has reportedly lost its place in the DC lineup thanks to Birds of Prey. But fear not, for the studio still has big plans for Leto’s version of Mr. J, as they’ve just announced he’s getting his very own standalone movie.

Batgirl and Harley Quinn are reportedly the two anchor points of Warner’s Birds of Prey, but there’s no room for Selina Kyle.
Or so says industry sleuth Umberto Gonzalez, who took to Twitter earlier today to clarify two things: one, Spectre actress Léa Seydoux is not testing for Black Canary or Catwoman, and the latter character isn’t expected to feature in the DC spinoff movie whatsoever.
This effectively shuts down those claims from 4chan that Seydoux, a prominent French actress who was once linked to Gambit over at Fox, had met with Warner Bros. about a possible role in Birds of Prey, which has already locked down Margot Robbie as the Clown Princess of Crime.
Coming hot off her scenery-chewing performance as Suicide Squad‘s one true wild card, Robbie has cemented her place among the DC Extended Universe, and is expected to feature across the likes...

To say that the Batfleck saga has been dogged by rumors and half-cooked speculation would be to deal in wild understatement.
And yet here we are; three days after we learned that Ben Affleck was headed for the exit door (again) and another rumor has emerged to suggest that the actor wants to remain a key part of the DC Extended Universe far beyond 2018.
This U-turn, assuming its true, would surely mean that Affleck will headline The Batman for Matt Reeves, before gobbling up roles in other DC projects like Gotham City Sirens, Flashpoint The Flash and maybe – just maybe – a direct sequel to Justice League.

As our own Matt Donato so aptly put it, Avengers: Infinity War is undoubtedly the movie event of the summer, even if it falls just short of becoming the greatest movie of the summer.
Be that as it may, the fact that Joe and Anthony Russo – not to mention screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely – built Infinity War on a rock-solid foundation made up of 18 movies and 10 years’ worth of CG spectacle has elevated the third Avengers movie to must-see status.
It’s part of the reason why everyone is currently walking on eggshells – remember, Thanos demands your silence – until such time as the moviegoing masses have seen Avengers: Infinity War with their own two eyes, which, if nothing else, proves that the McU has carefully amassed one of the most invested and impassioned fanbases in modern film history. Hell, one need only look to the early box office results for evidence of that,...

Warner Bros. and DC have finally found the woman who will lead Harley Quinn and the rest of the female DC superheroes to the big screen, with Birds of Prey! Learn more about Cathy Yan within...
Ever since Warner Bros. and DC earned massive amounts of praise (and money) for their adaptations of Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, the studio has been shifting their attention to create films depicting the massive catalog of established female superheroes. Even with movies like Gotham City Sirens, Batgirl, Harley Quinn vs The Joker, and even Suicide Squad 2 (to some degree) in the works, that's not enough for DC. They want to make a Birds of Prey movie.
According to a report from Deadline, after cycling through tons of qualified male directors, Warner Bros. and DC decided instead to go in a different direction and hire newcomer Cathy Yan to direct their Birds of Prey project.

Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment have chosen relative newcomer Cathy Yan to direct Margot Robbie in an untitled Harley Quinn movie, Deadline confirms. The film is expected to be based on the “Birds of Prey” comics storyline and feature numerous female characters from the DC universe teaming up with Robbie’s Harley. Once the deal closes, Yan will become the first female Asian director to helm a superhero film.
According to Deadline, Yan was chosen as the director over numerous “well-established male filmmakers.” Yan only has one feature to her name: An indie film called “Dead Pigs” that won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance earlier this year. Yan’s pitch for the DC movie was “exceptional” and her hire was supported by Robbie, who has been adamant DC and Warner Bros. get a female director to helm the project. Exclusive: Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have chosen Cathy Yan to be the director of an untitled girl gang movie, likely the next superhero film to be graced by Suicide Squad scene-stealer Harley Quinn, in the form of Margot Robbie. A deal has to be completed, but it is expected that Yan will become the second female filmmaker to join the DC club after Wonder Woman‘s Patty Jenkins, and the first female Asian director ever tapped to direct a superhero film.
This is a bold bet for Warner Bros’ Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada, who oversee DC under Toby Emmerich. Yan got the job over numerous well established male directors, and because she is taking this giant leap with just one small-budget indie movie under her belt. That would be Dead Pigs, a film that won the World Cinema Dramatic Award For Ensemble Acting at Sundance last January. Despite being a new talent,...

Per Deadline, Warner Bros. has officially tapped the so-hot-right-now screenwriter to pen a script for the embryonic spinoff movie, which initially had Joss Whedon (The Avengers) attached to write, direct and produce.

Exactly who will pick up the mantle as Batgirl remains to be seen, though it’s worth noting that Janelle Monáe (Moonlight, Hidden Figures) has emerged as something of a fan-favorite in recent months. With Justice League failing to meet financial expectations at the box office, it’s forced many of us to ponder the future of the DC Extended Universe. And regardless of said gross, it’s the hope of many – this writer included – that we continue to see new territory being charted that, of course, includes heroes and villains who’ve not had much exposure on the big screen.
Taking those financial shortcomings into consideration, though, it’s definitely surprising to see that Warner Bros. are seemingly all for proceeding with a Flashpoint movie. I mean, the Scarlet Speedster is long overdue for some time in the spotlight on the silver screen, but anyone remotely familiar with Geoff Johns’ game-changing comic book of the same name is well aware of how it also includes alternate takes on Batman, Superman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and even Shazam.
