If you want a decent sci-fi movie with aliens, this isn't it. If you want decent acting and writing, again, not it.

This is a classic example of what I call lazy writing, where the author writes something highly improbable/unlikely to advance the story. Then on top of that the characters did not behave realistically - not responding anything like an actual person would in similar circumstances. This is all made worse by continuity errors and a general lack of research on certain things (firearms for one).

The acting is barely adequate overall, but some of the characters come across as either wooden or strained when challenged to show emotion. The main female's "meltdown" seemed a bit hamfisted.

The entire premise of the movie wasn't bad, but the idea that humanity needed "help" to build complex structures in the way described was overly contrived. It was if they were saying that ancient humans were too dumb to even talk with each other let alone cooperate with each other.

Overall, not a great movie, but I'll give it 3 out of 10 - you CAN watch it, but I'd suggest doing it with friends and then making fun of the mistakes and acting. You'll enjoy it much better that way.

Doesn't feel like Christmas to me

The film opens with a wild commentary about "swarm intelligence" and how these ant-like qualities were needed to build ancient monuments. All controlled by "they." Jim Yung (Derek Ting) has migraines. His recent termination allows him to go out into the desert shooting with his two old Chicago University friends and not a set up, Kara (Olivia Hultgren) a personable young woman with a U-Tube following. She feels she needs to apologize when she doesn't make a daily upload. Oddly, she doesn't own a selfie stick. While shooting they release a red CG vapor and things happen to tie into the opening commentary. Jim is immune to the effects because he wrote, directed, and produced the film...and also gets migraines.

The first 20-30 minutes is character build-up followed by some shooting and then Jim being on the screen in a combative role saving the planet from "they" for much of the rest of the feature . I had two issues with the film. First off the plot was silly. I am not an ancient astronaut guy and only tolerate the theory when accompanied by high-tech special effects and major league stars or Kurt Russell. The second problem is that Derek Ting can't act well enough to carry a film. His film presence is weak. On the plus side, he was able to direct scenes. He managed to get fairly good camera angles and appropriate close ups for much of the film placing it above the found footage genre and early Polonia Brothers productions in the nuts and bolts area.

Watched the trailer and wasn't very impressed but curiosity got the better of me.

It's not a complete disaster after all if you, just like me expect a C-List movie. This is more of a B-list and to be honest I have definitely seen much worse.

The acting came across as stale and forced but at least they tried.

The story line is as fresh as fresh fish, but if there is nothing else to watch & you have some time to kill, or need something to run in the background while you cook, this is for you.

Let's hope the next Derek Ting film is better.

Good example how IMDb has lost control over the reviews

This movie is not good, no need to beat around the bush. Normally i don't care about bad movies, just check it off and forget em, no reason to get upset.

But to see over 170 (60%) fake ratings and 20 (90%) fake reviews is very shocking. Here you can clearly see how IMDb lost control or doesn't care any more.

This is not eve a movie.... it's some tragi-comedy... worst ever. I think the crew and the actors rated it above 2.. LOL Don't loose time on this.... Do not even bother to play 5 minutes of this, you will suffer very bad, believe me!!!! The actors are under any level the operator is using some smartphone with good camera for this i guess.. absolutely bad bad bad performance, play, story line, everything is terrible!!!

GoPro made me a cinematographer

A GoPro, a drone, and some guns spent a weekend in Joshua Tree and this is the result. A plodding, plot less pastiche of random sci fi tropes linked only by triple threat Ting's ambition and love of gadgets, this drone wreck of a video never gets off the ground. There is no plot, just 59 minutes of ultra high definition landscapes, clouds, bushes, ants and lots and lots of guns. The remains 21 min have some decent fight scenes and steadi-cam shots, but are unmoored to anything interesting, plot wise. When the camera isn't strapped to a drone shooting empty landscape, it is usually sitting motionless on another rock, facing a bush. Ting clearly watched enough films to want to make one, but doesn't seem to grasp the niceties of visual storytelling, or editing, or human emotion, the things that make films (as opposed to this 80 minute string of video clips) compelling to humans to watch. There is no alien threat, just red CGI dust, and instead of telling a story everyone shoots everyone else. The actors generate no tension, dramatic, sexual or any other sort, while the video camera lustily devours other gadgets. Slow mo cartridges fly out of the steaming orifices of hot, hot guns, and creosote bushes languish in the hot, hot sun, while ants scurry and aquariums snails gaping maws nibble sea weed. Visually exquisite and as emotionally barren as the infertile protagonist, this video at 80 minutes feels as endless as the desert it was shot in.

Expert shooters, hahaha

At shooting range they hit, but watching them shooting, it is clear they don't know how to shoot. They slap the trigger, u do that with a shotgun shooting clay pigeons, but not pistols and rifles. If u slap ur shot is uncontrolled. U need to squeeze the trigger. U don't wear sunglasses, u don't hold the head sideways....

Let's get real, this movie is rubbish. BEWARE FAKE REVIEWS.

It is obvious Agent is not a real film. It is a kiddie project. Some people might tolerate the bad writing, acting, and story line. But, anyone saying overly nice things is being paid or being polite. I get it. You don't tell a mother her baby is ugly. And this film is ugly.

To the people getting paid to write fake good comments about this film: STOP. You are helping the filmmakers scam people into buying/renting this bad film. Read the candid comments all over from disappointed viewers who feel ripped off. That's not cool.

To the filmmakers, if you continue down this path of deception, no one will take you seriously and you will be forgotten.

Writing is terrible

The writing is horrendous. Acting is terrible, but I ignored that since these seem to be a bunch of young people trying. OK fine, but maybe keep your options open. Maybe it's the horrible writing that makes it impossible to act.

Characters are basic preppy blank faces, nothing interesting about them in my opinion. Backstory on interpersonal relationships between the characters supposed to make it more interesting and give the characters personality? Didn't do it for me here.

Story is boring, plot didn't go anywhere until it suddenly decided to move and even then it was just a complete let down. Not stimulating or very creative. By the way the writing is absolutely terrible. It's on the cusp of being so bad it's good, but it's not so it's just terrible. I cannot believe there are people rating this up on here but okay different tastes I guess.

The writing and acting are so so so so terrible. It's so forced and there isn't even anything to force which is the grand irony of it all.

Don't expect to be blown away.

Interesting premise,lots of filler,very slow fight scenes. Kind of paint by numbers movie,one that someone might throw in the DVD and have playing in the background. Just texting or playing game, every once in awhile look over at screen but basically white noise in background. Easily replaced by something you enjoy seeing again.

great to see the clips form social media come to fruition in the film. awesome camera-work, acting and story. did a great job of tackling a big idea and keeping it intimate within a small group of characters rather than the story being a global, world ending, city destroying cliché that is much too saturated. this lends itself to keeping the info conspiratorial and privy. I believe this angle is why the characters are relatable. IN addition, a good use of the power punch. you see too often a super strong character punching an opponent across the room and it just looks like they are on wires. Agent accomplished this technique while making it not overdone and much more believable. cheers to the cast and crew, cant wait for the follow up!!

not bad!

OK, I saw the trailer. It was good, but I was hesitant because it might have all the best stuff, and nothing in the movie. But I bit anyways.

I wasn't expecting much honestly, but I liked the characters enough, they felt real. I'm a consultant, so the Seth character was spot on...haha. Loved the frequent flyer joke.

The film starts out as a bunch of friends, and then takes a serious turn with a lot of guns, fighting, action, and...mythology.

I saw the movie with my wife one evening over wine, and it was refreshing and fun.

Did some research on the filmmakers, and I'm a fan! Enjoy!

Really good sci-fi indie

I enjoyed watching this film. It took its time in setting up the characters, but once it got going, the action and intensity erupts. I love guns, so I was already hooked after watching the trailer and found that the action was above par.

I'm interested to see more of the conspiracy! Yum!

My friends and I were surfing around and decided to rent this film because we live in Nevada, and we go to the desert to shoot guns all the time...haha. We got a kick out of the premise...I recognized all the weapons.

We were all pleasantly surprised, the film takes a turn and it's constant running, danger, and...shooting.

Enjoyed it an apparently there's more coming

A Must Watch For Sci Fi Lovers!

The movie's protagonist tries to get into the CIA as an agent, yet ended up becoming a different kind of agent instead. Tasked with unlocking the mysteries of ancient powers unknown to man and fighting for humankind's existence. A promising beginning to what could be a great series of a subject we have all been curious about; the possibility of an alien invasion, a hostile takeover of our very own existence, will we succumbed or will we survive?

Realistic

The beginning was pretty slow and the shots were artistic, I thought I had the wrong movie based on the trailer. Then everything goes into hyper drive about half way into the movie. The ending was intense and I found myself rooting for the characters, heart pounding. Doesn't usually happen. I'm into scifi, action, and guns, and I felt the movie was pretty realistic. Definitely enjoyable and a nice change of pace since I've seen almost every other scifi. I liked it. Would probably give the film a 5 or 6, but 7 for surprising me.

Finally, a movie that goes back to the basics

This is an indie movie, because of its low budget, doesn't have the luxury of throwing money at special effects to cover up a bad monotonous story.

Everything about the characters, the wardrobe, the setting, and the acting feels grounded in reality. The acting is superb as you feels Jim's struggle and conflict with his friends.

I miss movies nowadays where you root for the main character and also care about the other characters too. Yes, those types of movies were in the 70's, 80's, and 90's without Hollywood tampering with the creativity. Finally, someone who appreciates all the movies I grew up on, and did something about it!

Good indie film

Refreshing to watch a movie that doesn't exploit a genre. If you are looking for sex scenes and flashes of nudity, the film is not for you. It was a classy film, even classier than Alien covenant, for all of its Holly "wood"'s had a gratuitous shower scene.

The film's entertaining and unpredictable. It introduces some cool new perspectives and the story is well put together. Acting is solid, though stronger in certain areas and weaker than others. I really liked the Kara character and was sad to see her die in the movie. Give this little indie film a try.

9/10 can't wait for the sequel!

This was my first time seeing Marikah Cunningham on screen and must say, she's as talented as she is beautiful. Would love to keep seeing her on big screens. Would also love to take her to out sometime in the future lol

I caught this flipping around Xbox movies after I just played a marathon of Call of Duty. The movie's got a good mix of guns from handguns to sniper rifles.

I really enjoyed the military aspect, the action, and the story.

I hope they make a video game out of it! I think it'd be really fun!

This movie was quite enjoyable. It had a nice blend of classic sci fi such as "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", but brought a new vision along as well. As well, the acting made it more tangible than the usual highly polished Hollywood sci fi, which I enjoy as well. I would not be against a part two, and I think that it may possible that it was done like that purposely. I think what was integral to its believability was that once the main plot line started rolling, it didn't stop. I also enjoyed that when the emotions got raw that they were palpable. I say well done.

Intense analog action flick

I enjoyed watching this film because it wasn't effects heavy at all. If anything the FX were kept to a minimum. The action feels real with very little CG green screen which always takes me out of it.

Seeing all of the guns and rough action going on. None of it feels staged or overly choreographed and the story adds a lot in the emotion department.

Most importantly I like it when action adds to the intensity of the story, not the other way around. Give it a try.

This movie shows in actual how the "red dust" agent infects humans and turns them into "collectives", losing their individualism in the process, pretty much wet dream of all dictators everywhere, marxists, socialists, communism, islamists, all favour dictatorial methods of controlling huge masses of people aka collectivism, forcing the world their way or death for any who refuses to let themselves be collectivised aka BORG.

Collectivists, marxists, socialists, communists, islamsits, all SUCKS big time.

They little realises the WEALTH every individual brings to everyone... yet they prefers to kill of every individual and forces everyone into slavery, just so they can indulges in their wet dream of controlling everyone at their beck and call.

Petty tyrants all, total losers.

Good movie, anyways. Hopes there's a follow up of an infection agent that forcefully individualises all the collectivists thus they all wakes up from the sick dream of collectivism, lol.

Great movie to escape with all the craziness going on in the world today. Especially when there isn't anything on tv. Terrance Jones performance is refreshing. He is extremely talented and I think I have a new celebrity crush! Extremely handsome!! Would love to see more of him on the big screen!
