Could be much better

It's a very informative and interesting documentary. But the narrator makes this seem like San amateur production. How hard is it to research how to pronounce names of places and terms ahead of time? Rookie mistake! Just a couple of things he mispronounced: Maldives and asbestos. I'm just two episodes in. There is no excuse for this!!

Cool for use as background while doing something else...except for the Narrator

TBH, I can't evaluate the accuracy or purported risk of any of the places mentioned...I've been to a few of them, and didn't think they would be on such a list. Breathing blue Asbestos (which the narrator consistently mispronounces) is clearly bad...walking through volcanic gas...also bad. Swimming in sewage (a word the narrator thinks has an "r" in it) is clearly bad. Wind farms, maybe not so much.

But the narration is really bad at times. I really don't understand how someone's voice can be so professional and clear, but that same someone can mispronounce every other word, even when those words are contemporary parts of the English language and most are used in common speech. I would expect that kind of outcome from an alien trying to behave like a human, but I'm assuming that isn't the scenario in this show since it's been a few years and we have yet to be invaded. I don't mean to sound picky, but its pretty off-putting in some of the episodes.

I did get a few new vacation ideas though...

Netflix are you serious?

Warning: Spoilers
This show is awful! It's a lot like that bad Spike TV show 1000 Ways to Die. Here's something I have an issue with, the Narrator. If you're going to soak for a living, maybe learn how words are pronounced? "PitCAN Island" instead of Pitcairn, res-spirit-tory health instead of respiratory!

The production values are also low when it comes to original content. Most of what I've seen seems like stock footage "B roll" stuff.

Another off putting thing to me is, they are listing the 72 worst places to live, but they don't follow any order!

Okay 72 worst places to live, let's start with, you guessed it, number 31!

Inaccurate
petsittertokyo26 August 2020
While watching the earthquake episode with Japan featured (I live in Japan), places were inaccurately depicted with some shots that are not even in Japan (some were in Philippines as I recognised the signs on shops). Also, places were inaccurately pronounced. If this was a properly researched documentary, and not just grabbed clips from YouTube, it would have been better.

Please add more visual effects to kill brain cells

I couldn't finish watching first episode. Way too many visual effects that make your eyes go mad. The narrator also makes the show unwatchable.

Narrated by a moron
zombienic19 April 2021
Since I started it and got a couple episodes in, I forced myself to watch all of them. The show is absolute rubbish. TONS of the information is inaccurate. But the most annoying thing is the narrator! He doesn't know how to pronounce basic words like asbestos, hurricane, and severe. He says New Orleans wrong. He pronounces multiple other cities wrong. Did nobody edit this show? How can this show expect anyone else to take this show seriously when the host has such a low IQ? One episode talks about how people get sick from wind turbines! LMAO get real!! Don't waste your time like I did.

Much of it is inaccurate
vindalootiger26 November 2022
I watched a few episodes of this series, it is terrible on so many levels. It makes Ancient Aliens look credible. The "sensationalist" way of narrating is nauseating and terrible. The narrators pronunciation many names is terrible (listen to him pronounce "Maldives"), it mad me laugh so hard I almost threw up. The narrator should go back to just dong reality TV.

Most of their experts are ignorant and terrible, some are ok, but the majority of them questionable at best with generic titles like journalist or engineer, no qualifications are provided for their experts. After some research a couple of them are actually industrial actors, not even actors.

The science behind Pripyat part is wrong . Another reviewer commented on how the images from the earthquake in Japan were not even in Japan. The part about the Aral Sea didn't even speak of the ruins on Rebirth (Vozrozhdeniya) Island and the toxic remains of Soviet era bioweapons lab. Wind Turbine Syndrome that was funny and total garbage, I am not going into it, look it up online if you really want to.

Basically so much of it is so badly scripted, so poorly researched, that none of it can be even accepted as accurate. It is purely sensationalized pseudo-science.

Meh
thejdrage20 July 2022
Very sloppy. Shots flying buy like bullets, no time to see. One reviewer from Japan said some of the video clips weren't even in Japan. NOT acceptable.

A few of the reviewers dinged the narrator for mispronunciations. He was not an American. No American uses the world "whilst" I'm not sure exactly what he is (IMDb didn't have that information, but it was produced in Australia), so that can account for a lot of what American's perceive as something being mispronounced.

My main gripe about it is that it included so many, it glossed over everything. Feel free to leave out Antarctica! That's a given.

It moved to fast and furious. Sort of like the some of the catastrophes it showed - again and again.

It's okay as a 'whilst (haha) you're doing other things' and want to have the telly on. Otherwise - it can easily be skipped.

Inconvenient Truths Part deux?
fconner-790775 December 2020
Can't believe I wasted time watching this. If you believe climate change (nee global warming) and nuclear power bad, this show is for you. Even Greenpeace gets into the act towards the end. Gloom and doom and "lions and tigers and bears, Oh My!"

Don't waste your time unless you're a staunch proponent of doom and poached content from YouTube.

Poorly researched and the narrator is garbage
rhwmisc6 November 2023
Seriously, Netflix, where did you find this guy? Not only is he one of the worst narrators I've ever heard, but your editors for this need to be fired for not correcting the narrator on his numerous mispronunciations.

Poorly researched. This seems like a YouTube series rather than a professional streaming service TV show. +2 stars because at least it was mildly entertaining, -6 stars because of the absolutely awful narrator and his constant mispronunciation of very, very basic words. -2 stars because your editors didn't correct the narrator.

Do better, Netflix. This could've been a really cool show.

Distastefully done and made for kids
hondahead3 March 2023
What can I say that hasn't been said by fellow reviewers? Well, I am guessing elementary school kids was the target audience. It has to be right? Why else would they over use quick cuts, special effects, and condescending narration? And just so everyone knows, this "show" was created by an Australian production company which explains the script using "whilst" over and over and over. I can't believe I didn't heed the numerous warnings from fellow reviewers. Oh, well. This show claimed another victim. Oh and another mispronunciation that will drive you crazy. In episode 3, they discuss earthquakes and talk about the "One Four Freeway" (14 Freeway) and the San Andreas "Folt" (Fault). You just can't make this up.

It's bad y'all
sajecha13 May 2023
It was bad y'all. I disliked the fact that it didn't go in order from 72 to 1. I know they were ranked by titles but maybe it made sense on paper but in execution it was way wrong. My type A personality needs structure. I would've liked a recap on the last episode of all the places from 72 to 1.

Who ranked these places? Some of the rankings didn't seem that bad like the turbine one and the top spot could've been ranked higher. I thought #3 could've been #1. That #3 spot was scary and disgusting.

The narrator mispronounced many words, the editing sucked, it was boring, and I'm not sure if this was advertising Australia or the production team disliked Australia but many of the places on this list was Australia.

This show looked like it was a whole bunch of YouTube videos meshed into a dragged out series.

Warning: Spoilers
Living in Alaska and see the 2 minute dangers Alaska gives is wrong. Alaska has hurricanes earthquakes avalanches and volcanoes. Didn't even bother to talk about the cultures or the history of the life changing events, not to mention other wildlife dangers such as moose the different bears you can encounter and the deadly temperatures. Like 40 below 0 or Denali or the earthquake and tsunami in 1964 where Cordova relocated and built a new town. But for the other dangerous places it was very detailed talking about all the details from the culture and history and the possibilities of the culture and people's future at stake with geologists and doctor etc.

Mind numbing
yellowstonenicole27 November 2022
Overall it's interesting. However, the gross amount of mispronounced words just blows my mind and I've only just started the second episode. Did someone tell the narrator to just sound out words he didn't know how to say? Respiratory...asbestos...New Zealand...Maldives...those are just a few. Maybe don't just pull your people off of Craigslist and not make sure they can read. Spend a few extra dollars and go for that Hooked on Phonics.

Also, in the piece about pollution in Japan, they kept focusing on masks that had holes in them while they talked about how masks were good to help keep people from getting sick.
