Fantastic
lilysophiaful16 March 2021
I have been a huge fan of this show since the beginning. While there were some parts I really didn't like, overall this was a great show. This ending is one of the best finales I have ever seen! It was so great to see all the past character return. I completed cried my eyes out. Stephan and Damon have been through so much together and the love they have for each other is so special. I think this was a beautiful ending and I'm really sad it is over.

The vampire diaries delivers an emotional finale
dianamarinelli6 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wow watching this finale twice I've realized how emotional the final episode was. Everyone got their happy ending.

*damon and elena lived happily ever after until the afterlife* *caroline and Alaric open the school which will open the spinoff legacies * *matt for living for 8 seasons and the only human who never got transformed to a supernatural being* *bonnie travelling the world and living her life* * Stefan finally found peace but it was kind of sad he died a day after he got married* *it was nice to see some old faces on tvd: Tyler, Vicky, Jeremy,Bonnie's ancestors,Jenna, Elena's parents, John Gilbert and jo

Thank you for the cast and crew for nine years of the vampire diaries

Hello, Brother
Zaid_Khoury8 August 2020
So, yeah, i don't know why i never posted a review for this show when it ended but here it is now, my take. Everyone probably had their own version of how it was supposed to end and wanted it to end, but we don't always get what we want for some of us atleast, i was both happy and sad for how this show ended.

The show had the best brother character development, it started with Damon hating Stefan intensely, in the course of the 8 seasons we saw how bonds are created, getting stronger and becoming who they were supposed to be, actual brothers, they might hated each other but they would still die for each other at their worst, its a messy relationship but its family.

This episode was an emotional roller coaster, i was very sad for the sacrifice that Stefan has made to save his brother, his wife and everyone in Mystic Falls who he had crossed, he made amends with how he acted in the past being the Ripper of Monteray, he had no control over being that as he was a natural born ripper, yet he tried his hardest to save his soul and everyone else's, my favourite characters was Stefan, Damon and Caroline.

Lexi was always a likeable character that was not supposed to die but they managed to put her in the right moments of the show, the scene where the dead reunite was in my opinion a great touch and needed to happen. We needed that final closure for us and for them.

Caroline deserved better, she deserved a happy ending with Stefan, Caroline is happy character and it compliments Stefan so much that its just a natural relationship, a flawless relationship, she was the only Vampire and she won't see Stefan until centuries have past, in the end she did open a wonderful school for her daughter and the Supernatural which we see in "Legacies" and the story goes on from there.

That's it and Epic Show truly great characters that we will miss.

Thank you The Vampire Diaries for giving us 8 Seasons.

I was feeling Epic
emir-kovacevic11 March 2017
So, here it is. The finale of the Vampire Diaries. Now, of course, many of the fans have their own wishes on the ending, but I think that also many of you will be happy with this ending. The Episode actually shows the intense brotherly love between Stefan and Damon, it also shows their love to the girl it all started with, Elena. At the complete beginning of the Vampire Diaries, we actually saw how far Stefan and Damon would go to save Elena, and how far would they go to save one another. This episode will bring you back many of the feelings you had when you had first started watching the Vampire Diaries at all. That first season, some of the most beautiful and memorable scenes from the first season you will get to relive and re-experience in this episode! Now, I know many of you aren't really happy with this ending, and that is okay, I am sure that you still like some things about it... But I also know, that the majority of you will have a rush of emotions watching it and that, like Lexi said in one episode of season one, you will feel epic.

Good, but should have been longer
Dannyboi9411 March 2017
Iv'e watched this show since its beginning, its had its ups and downs, but has remained a very good show, with fantastic characters. Season 7 and 8 have been the least best seasons out of the series, but this episode was one of the better episodes.

First of all, it was great seeing all the characters make at least one small cameo, and the little hint at the end about the Originals (I look forwards seeing that return). However, I do think this episode felt rushed. With scenes been quickly edited together, and characters teleporting from one scene to another.

After 8 years, I think they should have wrapped this up a little better than handled. While this was a great episode, it had a lot of emotion behind it. But I couldn't help but feel it needed to be at least another 30 minuets longer, to give us more time with the characters we have grown to love over the past 8 years.

The Vampire Diaries has been terrific, and I can't say anything else bad about this episode, because ... its not bad. I hope that some of the characters make it over to the Originals. This episode had great acting, and very good writing, and despite being rushed, was a fitting conclusion to a great TV series.

This show will be missed.

Well at least we got our happy ending...
e-a-caskey22 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I felt like there should have been at least one more episode, as much as I loved this episode, I feel like there was just too much of a rush to finish. I would have loved to see Damon and Elena get married, maybe see if they ever had kids. I would have just loved to have seen a glimpse of what their life would have been like as humans. Did Damon buy the Grill or did he open up his own bar? Did Elena reopen her fathers clinic, after doing extensive renovations of course, or did she open her own clinic? Did she rebuild the Gilbert Family Home? They obviously couldn't move back to the Salvatore Boarding House.

Also how did Bonnie break the spell to wake Elena up?

Also it made me sad to see Damon and Elena separated in the afterlife, I know that she was reunited with her family and him with Stefan, but if it were my true love I wouldn't want to be separated even in the afterlife. I know I read that Julie Plec wanted the fans to draw their own interpretation about the after life, would it be an individual or shared experience, or is our slice of heaven just the chance to see the ones we have lost. Does our vision of the afterlife intersect with someone else's? Like going to the drive-in and seeing our friends?

An acceptable ending.
begonacordeiro26 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I liked the end of the series although there are several things with which I do not agree.

For example, Bonnie has always sacrificed for her friends and has always ended up losing. I think he deserved a happy ending with Enzo by his side.

On the other hand, I didn't like the fact that Damon went back to being human. And finally, of course I did not like Stefan's death, he deserved a happy ending.

What I liked the most was Elena's return because she closes the circle and also that old characters from the series appear.

Warning: Spoilers
Ummmmm....I'm sorry, but that was the single most disappointing Katherine Pierce comeback I have ever seen...She literally just died over and over again. The f***?? "The Myth, The Legend, The Baddest B**** of all"?? Not even close in this episode (which unfortunately also happens to be the last time we'll ever see her...). The rest was decent though...

I was NOT feeling epic
Marellimdb13 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a fan of TVD series since it started and I must admit that I'm absolutely devastated about the finale episode.

Let's start with Damon; we met Damon as a vampire, driven by emotions, lust and darkness in him, making human out of him was just a disastrous twist in the final episode. Damon has done NOTHING but mess things up, being self centered, whiny prick, but we liked him, we liked him because he was the sarcastic, funny and dark character. He did not even remotely liked the idea of being human, so I don't really get why the lack of creativeness in the making of the final episode. it's the least suitable decision to make a super normal being out of him. I doubt that anyone, who was following the development of the characters disagrees with me.

Bonnie, the strongest character, who lost EVERYONE because of the Salvatore brothers ended up alone, with ghost version of Enzo on her side; She, above of all characters should have stayed happy, she sacrificed EVERYTHING for her friends and in the end, it seemed like everyone found some peace, except of her. The death of Enzo made zero sense for me. He was one of the most charming characters of the show and the final light in the end of the tunnel for Bonnie, which the makers of the show decided to switch off, sadly.

Stefan Salvatore, the Ripper of Monterey has always been my favorite brother, even though he had some serious outbreaks, he has always been ''the better man'' for me personally. He deserved happiness somehow. After his brother ruining his life constantly. The show for me was never about Damon or Elena, it was the story of Stefan Salvatore, the strongest character, a good man, who fought off his demons every living day and therefore, he should have survived it.

It is understandable that there are not always happy endings to expect, but this finale left me somehow unfulfilled. It looked like they hurried to finish the series, there was not enough effort invested in it. The last episode should have been longer, full with emotions and a fair ending, I'm not talking about a happy ending, I just wished they have created a FAIR ending, I mean, come on guys, we watched the show for 8 years, fans deserved something more then 43 freaking minutes with the fastest development of the events EVER. what the hell was up with the Donovan family anyway... All in all, I have to say, that I will miss the show, I will miss seven seasons and 15 episodes and I'm going to compel the hell out of every memory of the final episode.

So... I'm in tears right now
laurenthorsteinson27 November 2023
What an AMAZING finale!!! Endings are so hard. You'll always have people who aren't happy with a specific ending, regardless of which way they take the story, but I personally think the writers did an amazing job with this one. Without giving much away, they kept it realistic while also showing that we all eventually get a happy ending, it just depends on whether we're alive when we have that happiness or whether we get it in death. I loved seeing characters we've grown to love. For some people it might've been over an 8 year period, but for others like myself, we binge watched the whole series in an embarrassingly short amount of time😳 This is actually the second time I've watched the series, but the first time around I stopped watching for some reason. I'm so glad I finished it!!! Awesome finish to an amazing series.

Great finale with a few small flaws
laurendennert17 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a great send off for the 8 seasons of The Vampire Diaries and with the shortened time frame the best that we could have expected.

And while we got to see some great characters make small cameos there were a few issues that I had with this finale.

Jeremy was severely under used. I expected a greater role for Jeremy in the finale, however all we got was a small shot and no dialogue. Alaric - in the last two season while I have loved Alaric getting a family etc I think this was to the detriment of his character. The great friendship he had with Damon is gone and the concern he had for Elena is also no where to be seen. I feel his character didn't really get a fitting end.

While I am a Delena fan to the end, I was a little disappointing that we never got to see them speak to each other. There needed to be a little more Delena love shown.

However all the above is forgiven as soon as I see that last scene between Damon and Stefan and "Hello, Brother". Gets me every time.

Overall loved it and am saddened this is the end.

Delena forever!!!

The idea was cool. but Katherine.. baddest bitch of all you say? She was more powerless than a normal human in the finale.. and she was supposed to be evil.. powerful as it was a finale. and Stephan deserved better :/ BUT hey it was a happy ending. Focused on finding 'peace', it is supposed to make you happy if you have lost someone that you loved :)

They tried something different. Personally, i loved it :)

EPIC (spoiler alert)
taylorchuckree11 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
For all those die hard fans that have watched this show every week since the day it aired... WOW! What a way to end a great series. The reunions, the tear jerkers.. it's perfect. Yes some scenes could've been constructed slightly better but I was very satisfied knowing the series ended the way it did. The point of the end of the episode was to show Damon and Elena reuniting with their families, they spent their entire lives waiting to see them. Who's to say Elena and Damon don't find each other again? The end of the episode made everything fall into place!! AHHH! So sad it's over.

Hello Brother, I was feeling Epic
lively_muzna11 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
*** SPOILERS ALERT *** I am gonna re-watch all these 8 seasons and still love the finale the most cause it was truly epic, and just like Stefan said "I was feeling epic", sure as hell we all were. I do wish he didn't have to die, they could have killed Matt and no one would have given two shits, but well, no one would have given two shits which is why they had to kill one of the leads to make it such a priceless ending, because not everyone and everything gets a happy ending :( Anyways, I wish Enzo came back to life, and shown a bit more about Lexi, which tbh was the best surprise after Elena (obviously) (but it wasn't a surprise as every fan already knew about it). But well, it was an excellent episode, I cried so much my eyes hurt which is why I'm gonna stop typing now.

(Also, I hope the cast appears in The Originals coming season) *fingers crossed*

Ups and Downs about the final episode of TVD
julii-f-soares11 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers !!! I want to divide this review in good and bad facts about the episode. So here's the bad aspects: Starting from the beginning of the ep the wig Nina Dobrev was using was awful, what a lack of quality, hair and makeup production could have done a better job ! When Katherine said Kai put a spell on Elena so her body could not leave that room where she was everything seemed ruined like comm'on Bonnie could force Kai to break the spell once he is locked in a prison world created by her or she could break the spell herself. When Stefan and Damon were arguing about which of them would stay with Katherine 'till the hell fire comes in nobody needed to die once that room they were gave free access to the corridor where fire was. They just needed to kill Katherine and push her to the corridor ! And the decision to make Damon human was just stupid, this is a series about vampires, they born vampires they died vampires period. Delena scene was so so so so disappointing, fans were waiting for this reunion for two years and in the show they we're apart for 5 years and all we got was a simple kiss, no conversation? no proposal? no smile from Damon? no tears from Elena? no "Belong" song?? Speaking of Elena, Kai said in the last ep of season 6 "no loopholes" seemed to me that Bonnie breaking the spell was a loophole... Why didn't they ask for help of another witch to break the spell sooner like Valerie?? About Katherine, she is an epic character, she deserved more than die, we deserved to see all her emotions towards Stefan and all she went through when she was in hell. To conclude the finale seemed too rushed, it wasn't an happy ending at all. One the other hand the ep has his good aspects: The songs were beautiful, the reunion Lexi and Stefan was beautiful, the mention of Klaus in a letter was beautiful. The best moments of the episode were when Bonnie gets help from another witches and save the town and definitely when Caroline calls Stefan and say she loves him, great performance by Candice. As you can see in my opinion the ep has more downs than ups, almost seemed the finale was written by other people and not Julie and Kevin, the producers.

Such a disappointment
elisavetaza12 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I love TVD SO much!!! I've watched it like 4-5 times. I've cried a lot, laughed a lot and loved all the characters and every single relationship they developed over the years. The friendship, the romance, the hate. VERY good writing by Julie and Kevin. Bravo to all of the actors. But my God, this finale for this unbelievably great show? I wanna cry from disappointment. Come on people, it is a vampire show, but except Caroline they all became humans (for no reason), died (for no reason) and that's it? What they found peace? Beside that, it was a love story. Where is all the love at the end? Damon and Elena? They should have killed her. It would have been more poetic, than her waking up, give a hug to Damon, die and reunite with her family? Give us ten minutes to show us their life together? Their marriage, their kids. At least a glimpse. Anyway, it could have been so much better than these!!!!!!!!!!!

Emotional end to a rough final season
arcticurse12 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After the masterpiece of series 1 to 3, and some of the terrible series after, its finally over.

The final 20 mins of the episode sum up the end of our character's lives as they 'find peace'. Yes I cried my eyes out. There were many cameos of our old favourites and the sad music just made it very emotional.

I think they handled it quite well by not showing the mortal lives of those who were left, just the final destination.

For me it should have always been Stefan and Elena. Stefan's relationship with Caroline never felt convincing (she should have gone off with Klaus!). Glad they got Nina Dobrev to return for this episode, as I heard she chose to leave the show a few series back.

Overall its a decent end to the show, but it certainly left me hankering to re-watch the first few seasons again when the show and characters were at their best.

Vampire Diaries or Elena Diaries?? Cheesy and illogical. Only hope: Klaroline
supermaggie22 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Massive spoiler alert for the following!! So, here was the last episode, and I braced myself for a lot, but I am still disappointed. I knew someone was gonna die and Elena was gonna come back. I could have done without Elena but I did not want someone else to leave, esp. not like this. I understand that the creators wanted to start and end the show with Elena, but on the other hand they started with two vampire brothers so they should have ended it with two vampire brothers, instead they ended it with one brother and he isn't even a vampire anymore. A show called the Vampire Diaries (Diarrhea?), and only one vampire is left? A bit thin. I also don't like the fact, that Bonnie is kind of scr..ed, Caroline is scr..ed and dull, dumb, always complaining Elena wins. Not only does she alone get the boy, she also gets everything else, she is human, he (!) is human, so she can have a life, with him, and - as she wanted - urgh, procreate, urgh. Awful. And what about those dumb naive meetings with the deceased - is this the naive, cheesy imagination of heaven for all the 5-year-old VD-watchers?? Awful. I don't know what is worse, that Stefan is dead or that Damon is human. I was never a fan of Stefan (and having seen him live not a fan of Paul Wesley either), but he kind of has grown on me, and more importantly he was important to sweet Caroline. In the first episode he tells C. "we are never gonna happen" and in the episode before last they marry - looks like she has won, but one episode later, she has to mourn him. This is sh... I have always preferred Klaroline, but I wanted C. to be happy and she was with Stefan - poor girl. But if this was necessary so C. can cross over to The Originals and to let Klaroline happen and C. getting to be happy after all, fine. But if this won't happen I will be pretty pi..ed. This has not been an epic ending, this was some cheesy BS and completely out of line for a V A M P I R E show. (And it was silly and incredible that he died, he could have stabbed Katherine and get out, not mentioning that one syringe of his blood would not be enough to cure Damon - silly). No wonder people bitch about Twilight and VD, if the creators think it's about marrying and procreating instead of Vampires - BS, BS, BS.

Absolutely awful
mihajlovicbetty10 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Huge fan of Vamp Diaries but (major spoilers ahead) how on earth can you finish a Vampire show with ALL the main characters dying human deaths and going back to their old families in the "afterlife"? Why not then just die dolphin deaths? That would make just as much sense but would at least be more entertaining.

Was never a fan of Damon/Elena romance but for god sake, she dies, Damon disappears and she completely ignores that fact to happily jump onto the porch with her mum and dad. So this life she lived as a human then is basically a way to kill the time until she can get back with her family. Some romance.

The episode was basically trying its best to milk as many tears as possible but sadly, since all the characters were practically competing to die at all costs, it doesn't work. They got out of much more serious situations. None of the deaths were necessary, it was just a pathetic attempt at melodrama. I'm SO p***** off.

Could be worse I guess. Caroline, I can't let my daughters (yeah, really) live without their mum but I can tell them I failed to help ALL of my friends for their sake, could go to Originals.

Unrelated to Actual Book
lorenjunk-537499 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Knowing how most of the show was based on copying from other shows and movies such as Twilight, True Blood, Jane the Virgin, just to name a few, I don't know why it failed to surprised me when the ending was copying the most epic show of all "Lost". I was dumbfounded by the lack of originality. Not to mention that it didn't even follow the book by any means. I just wished there was some uniqueness to be able to cherish what would have been a wonderful show.
