The Prison You Created
ThomasDrufke14 March 2017
Last week's episode had the feeling of a mid-season or even season finale with the ramifications of Savitar's return. And although tonight's episode continued the ominous tone for the most part, there were a few plot points that seemed to come a little too easy for Team Flash.

I really love the idea of Barry traveling into the Speed Force every once in a while. Just as a pure sci-fi storytelling device, it's about as interesting as this show has provided us. One of the coolest things it can do is provide a reason for certain actors to return to their beloved roles. Eddie & Ronnie were both criminally underused in season 1, and it was nice seeing them back. We also got surprise appearances from Captain Cold, Black Flash, and even Jay Garrick. Everyone besides Jay, was communicating through the Speed Force to Barry in attempt to prevent him from taking Wally's place.

It's unconventional, but I really enjoyed all of those conversations Barry has through different aspects of the Speed Force. Anything the show does to embrace the science fiction nature of the comics is fine by me. But I did find it a little convenient and too easy for Wally to be back after only one episode in the Speed Force. Doesn't it ruin the huge moment that was Wally taking Savitar's place last week? Jay taking Wally's place had an emotional weight on its own, but he's barely on the show so it isn't the same.

Jesse decided to take the Savitar problem into her own hands as the team found a way to track him via the piece of metal from his suit. I've always loved Violett Beane's performance and It's nice to finally see her out on her own, but again, her stabbing Savitar with a piece of his own suit felt too easy. I know it served the purpose of having the team "realize" there's a human underneath all that metal, but I don't think it should have felt that easy. You have to wonder what her fate on this show is after what Savitar told her. Perhaps covering for Jay on Earth-3 is exactly what she needs.

Last but not least, Barry and Iris decided to take a "break". Not exactly sure why Barry felt that doing this was going to save Iris, but I guess it's just another one of his unorthodox ways about fixing the future. So, there wasn't a Savitar reveal or a character death, but tonight featured many surprises and plenty of sci-fi awesomeness via the Speed Force. Some scenes didn't feel as earned as they should have, but there was enough of everything else to keep everything afloat.

+Love the Speed Force episodes

+Character returns

+Jay's sacrifice was bold

-But it also was a tad convenient

Good but some things don't really make any sense

Warning: Spoilers
Very good and entertaining as all the others episodes. But at the end some things happened that really don't make any sense. Even with having the characters explaining the reasons... I don't see how what happened can help for what is needed. Feels like the writers just needed some unexpected turn of events to keep it interesting but for me it turns out totally silly. :)

This TV series is better than most of this years summer blockbuster movies

Warning: Spoilers
The big plus point of this episode was that there were a lot of special appearances viz. Robbie Amell, Rick Cosnett, Eddie Thawne and Wentworth Miller.

I must add, there was one line that Rick Cosnett (Eddie) telling Grant Gustin (Barry) that always be ready for the consequences that you make. Also, Barry ready to embrace the future. These lines are in fact memorable.

Wally should be brought from the Speed Force after 3-4 episodes, which brought the weight of the episode a little down.

A tribute to the previous seasons.

The Flash - S03E16 Into the Speed Force
j_forbesy14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After the last speed force episode we got last season, I was extra hyped for this week's episode. I love whenever we get deeper into the Flash lore and the mystery behind his powers. I've read a bit about the speed force through the comics and I really like how on the show they use physically embodiments.

This starts me off on my first point. I loved the return of some of the characters. Because of things like the multiverse and the speed force, we get an excuse to bring back some of our fan favourites. Miller as Snart has always been one of my favourite characters both on this show and Legends so it was really great to see him again. While I didn't have as big of an attachment to Ronnie and Eddie, I still loved seeing them again in some way. While not much really happen when they were in the speed force, I still loved every moment of it. I really love the look of the speed force and how it seems like a play that exists outside of the multiverse. We have now had two speed force episodes and I really liked how the speed force as a character had changed since the last episode. I hope for future seasons we see the speed force develop more and we keep revisiting it.

Touching on the stuff that happened outside of the speed force, I liked how they used Jesse this episode. I thought her taking her father's 'go get them' characteristic and taking on Savitar was, while stupid from a character point of view, a good character moment for Jesse. It's great to see this determination and fearlessness in her because it's a characteristic that I really loved that from Earth 2 Harry.

While still being on the topic of Jesse taking on Savitar, it was really interesting to see how he could be physically hurt. Which I wasn't completely surprised that this was the case, as a show, it shows that we are starting to learn of Savitar's weaknesses and ways they could stop him.

There was a little negative I had from this episode however, it I think it was such a negative because we had two similar situations happen and one was done better than the other. I thought the way they put a bit of space between Jesse and Wally was done really well because it logically made sense. Earth 3 needed a Flash and Jesse felt a need to spend a bit of time by herself. On the flip side, Barry and Iris taking a break made no sense. One week they are engaged, the next they need space. I get the reasoning behind breaking the engagement because it was forced by Barry's fear of her death, however there wasn't a clear motivation behind Barry wanting to take a break. Hopefully this is something they touch on in coming weeks, but for the mean time I had to chalk it down as a negative.

Overall, I really loved this episode. While I don't think I loved it quite as much as last weeks or the previous speed force episode. It is still up there as one of my top tier episodes. Turning to next week, I really liked how there wasn't a big cliff hanger because next week is going to be the musical crossover with Supergirl. This episode left us in a position where we can try something different next week and we haven't hit our straps into the final part of the story. Touching on Savitar, last week I was on the future Barry train, this week I am on the HR bandwagon. There was certain moments that HR and Savitar had which seem so similar since reading about different connections between the two. While I still wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that it is someone else, I think either way we are getting a reveal soon and it is going to be a big one.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Into the Speed Force
lbramson11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Barry goes into the Speed Force to save Wally and is visited by ghosts from his past. This is just Runaway Dinosaur...again. I guess it's more different with an appearance from the Black Flash and different characters, but that's the only huge difference. Into the Speed Force is a pretty good episode with some interesting concepts, but it's all been done before. And quite frankly, done way better in Season 2. I already established that 2x21 is my favorite Flash episode so far, and this doesn't hold a candle. It's a fairly inoffensive little aftermath episode that's only purpose is to further develop the Speed Force.

8.5/10-Good👍

Once again, The Flash takes a turn for the worse.
towerkhanina14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Just when I thought this season was going to get good after last week's episode, CW writers once again prove me wrong.

This episode is probably the worst we've had this entire season. The writing made absolutely zero sense.

Jesse goes after Savitar, who is apparently the god of speed and is the fastest speedster alive. Yet somehow, this rookie speedster who has never faced a serious threat in her life, manages to overpower him and send him cowering away. She then leaves the fight without a scratch. Yeah, that makes a bunch of sense. Seriously, why don't we just have Jesse fight Savitar? She could probably take him out in less than a minute.

Barry gets Wally out of the speedforce at the end of the episode. Predictable. It's hard to feel bad for anyone on this show when their problems are resolved in one episode.

Jesse decides she wants to go live on Earth-3 and fight crime, and the entire team supports her and says "ok bye have fun." Keep in mind Jesse is a kid and is new to being a speedster. Not to mention she knows nobody on Earth-3. Once again, TERRIBLE writing from the CW. This made absolutely no sense.

Then, right when I think they couldn't possibly do something worse, the ending takes the cake. Barry and Iris once again have more relationship drama. Iris forgives Barry's reason for proposing to her from last episode. Then, Barry decides to break up with Iris because he believes his reason for proposing to her was wrong. Yeah guys, proposing to the woman you love in an attempt to save her from getting bludgeoned to death by an evil speedster is just WRONG! Don't even ask me how this makes sense.

The writers on this show seriously do not try anymore. I am very disappointed in this show. I absolutely loved season 1, but what is this? This season is not like The Flash at all.

On this week's ep of Tired Recycled Story lines R Us:
imakk200115 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
  • someone else takes the fall for Barry, and don't even get me started how he only gave Jay credit for saving Wally when Jay saved both Wally AND Barry. Truly, Barry Allen = Pathetic F-Upper Extraordinarire.

  • Jesse going to E3 is right up there with Henry leaving prison so he can leave the show. They shouldn't have brought her back in the first place.

  • Poor Jesse got the StarLabs Dispatachers'* wannabe bench warmer. I guess it's a rule of CWDCverse that ALL StarLabs Flashers have to be chained to a StarLabber. Lame.

  • 2nd trip to the Speed Force is 1 trip too many. Much like Grodd/Solovar/Gorilla City, Eddie, Ronnie and Snart deserved better than this.

  • So Jesse went up against Savitar, Cisco vibes Jay to the rescue, Jay saves Wally/Barry/the day. What did Barry do? Same thing he does every ep: mope. So basically Barry did nothing again. Which brings me to...

  • Iris/Barris. Why is this character/pairing with all the chemistry/joy/fun/relevancy of a rock the focus of this season? Especially since everything that happens to them will be undone. Their destination makes their journey DOA, so this ep's back and forth with Barris is yet another boring filler. Which makes perfect sense because this has been a gigantic boring filler season with a boring filler Barry.

Do the writers secretly hate Barry Allen or something? Because I'm actively in the camp of Barry Allen needs to die. Score: 3
