How did Flash cook so fast?
defmuse14 May 2021
Out of curiousity: flash makes breakfast superfast right at the beginning of the episode, but how would that work, considering only he can move fast... he can't affect the ingredients nor the flame to speed up the process, right?

This is purely interest. Comments?

The Flash - S03E14 Attack on Central City
j_forbesy1 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After what was a fantastic episode last week at gorilla city, I was really excited to see what they were going to do when the gorilla army came to Central City. As I've mentioned in other reviews, I've only recently read the Grodd arc in the New 52 comic, therefore my expectations on what this episode was going to be was high.

I'll start by saying that I was a little let down by this episode. This was one of those occasions where I was expecting one thing and got something different. While I still thought this was a fantastic episode, leading up to this week I was expecting we were going to have a big gorilla battle, similar to what we got in the Dominators cross over. However, with TV budgets, I can completely understand why they opted to play this episode out like they did.

What made me still love this episode was that it had a bit of everything this show has to offer and it nailed every part of it. Seeing as they missed out on having a Valentines themed episode, I was okay that they dripped the theme in at the start. For a show like this that is spread over so many weeks, it only makes sense that we see our characters go though those yearly events like Christmas and Valentines day. What I really liked about it was how well it was handled and contained. I liked how it was a quick 5 minute thing at the start, all the characters had their relationship stuff mentioned, apart from Wally and Jesse which I will touch on in a second, and then they moved on with what this episode needed. I say every week, I liked having relationships in shows like this, but they need to remain as a background plot point, and if they become the main plot point, they need to have good reason to.

Which takes me to Wally and Jesse. Their relationship walks that line of needing to be a side point and actually having story relevance to it. I think that in the past two weeks, they have been very story relevant. Jesse moving to Earth 1 is such a big thing that it is going to change the dynamic of the story and because of that, I didn't mind that we saw a bit of drama between then and Earth 2 Wells. After all, this was the Wells we had present for most of last season and we saw his relationship with Jesse change, so it was nice to see them handling it this episode.

What I love about the Flash is that they don't have to hammer on with the action and it can stand as a sci-fy show that revolves around science. I always like when they step away from the action and use their science knowledge to help solve the problem, and this is what we got this episode. Although most of it is mumbo-jumbo that probably isn't the slightest bit real, its still cool to see, what is probably the smarted team of all the CW superhero shows, in action and finding new ways to defeat the villain.

Although I just mentioned how I like when they are able to step back from the action, I now have to do a 180 and talk about how good the action was. While we didn't get much as far as speedster action sequences, I thought the Grodd vs Solovar fight was amazing. While it showed a couple of kinks in the CW budget, for the most part they looked amazing. While I would of liked to see more speedster vs gorilla stuff, I don't think we would of got the intensity of the gorilla fight. While still on gorillas, it's interesting that they have now decided to leave Grodd on Earth 1. I suspect that this is so they can pull him into play easier in upcoming season, so the fact that we know his at least on the same Earth as our team keeps the excitement for Grodd high.

Overall, while it fell a little short of what I thought would happen, it was still a fantastic episode. I feel like having this double episode event was a great thing to have so that we can now turn our attention to Savitar for the rest of the season. As we saw a the end of the episode, Savitar has returned so I'm expecting a couple Savitar heavy episodes in the next few weeks. By the looks of it, episode 17 is the musical cross over with Supergirl, so that leaves the show two weeks to set Savitar up, and maybe have some form of reveal to us as the audience.

The Gang is Back Together
ThomasDrufke28 February 2017
I complained that last night's Supergirl episode had a difficult time balancing the comedy and drama. Tonight's Flash episode is a prime example of how to properly balance the two. On one hand, the looming threat of Grodd and (ultimately) Savitar gave the episode an ominous tone. But the two Wells', the romance between Gypsy & Cisco, and the few surprises made the episode about as fun as the show has been all season. That's how you balance the tone.

Grodd looked phenomenal. Maybe it was because most of this episode took place at night, thus it being harder to see any CGI gaffes, but man this episode was impressive to look at. That, and we got a bada** Gorilla showdown as Gypsy played a part in bringing back Solovar to take down Grodd. Although we didn't get a ton of time spent with the three speedsters, Jesse, Barry, and Wally, everything was balanced out incredibly well. There was just enough action, intrigue, and tease for the future to satisfy my needs for the show.

H.R. thought it would be a good idea to celebrate "friends day" (Earth-19's version Valentine's Day) which makes another holiday celebrated a little late for a CW show. No matter, there wasn't too much focus on the couples. Jesse officially confirmed to Harry that she's moving to Earth-1 to be with Wally. That still makes little sense due to the fact that they barely know each other, but if it means more Violet Beane/Jesse this season then I'm all for it. Cisco pined for Gypsy again and she somewhat reciprocated. Do I care for that relationship? Not really, but it's sure as heck entertaining. And finally, Barry proposed to Iris. Not totally unexpected, since she may not be here much longer anyway, but for some reason I can't help but think this won't go down for a long time. It's not like a marriage would change their dynamic all that much since they're already living together, but that seems like something that will be held off until a few seasons down the line.

It was nice to have the gang back together tonight, especially since it meant two separate versions of Tom Cavanagh). We got a tease for another speedster, The Accelerated Man, an apparent return of Savitar (it's about time), and a message for the rest of the season, "find the other way". I don't believe Iris will die at the hands of Savitar, but I like the moral dilemmas that this event is proposing for the team. Contemplating killing his villains seemed like a stretch at first, but I feel like it's something that should have probably come up sooner anyway. With The Flash putting away baddies, and then having them escape every now and then, can't be the most encouraging thing. This all begs the question if Barry will have to make a similar choice as Oliver did in season 2 of Arrow. Pick between 2 of his loved ones (Iris and Wally?) to have to either kill/or let die at the hands of Savitar. Seems a bit dark for the show, so for now, let's just enjoy the time we have with 3 good speedsters on one show.

+Jesse & Harry's return to the team

+Balance in humor & heart

+Finding the 'other way'

+Gorilla madness

Bring back Savitar!
asb_deutsch16 August 2017
These episodes remind me of Season's 2 - "Welcome to Earth 2" and "Escape from Earth 2" It was the needed exposition for the new world in which we're introduced in which is Earth II. I rated both episodes 10/10. Episode 12 was a spent forced addition and couldn't match Grodd what ZOOM was so threatening, though he looked cool in the armor.

Although we didn't get a ton of time spent with the three speedsters, Jesse, Barry, and Wally, everything was balanced out incredibly well. There was just enough action, intrigue, and tease for the future to satisfy my needs for the show.

Iris and Wells giving pep talk to Barry Allen was nice, explaining how Oliver Stone bears the weight for the killings he done.

The main issue was the fight between Solovar and Grood was more funny than absorbing. I mean they looked like big soft hush puppies. May I am comparing with the SFX of Planet of the Apes!

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Attack on Central City
lbramson11 June 2023
Turns out Grodd tricked Team Flash in the last episode, and his army is now marching to Central City. Remember when I said that Grodd has never disappoint? Well...I lied. This episode has a higher scale than the last, but simply isn't as interesting. Gorilla City is a way more visually appealing location that the dull Central City. Also, Grodd doesn't use his intellect or his powers in any of the fight scenes which is odd. Even with all its glaring issues, Attack on Central City still has intense moments all the way through and is still not bad. This is the only time Grodd ever disappointed us fans. As a whole, this was the weakest 2-parter but I still thoroughly loved it!

Solid 7.7/10-Good👍

Gorilla Invasion
cobi-806201 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Once again, the episode 13 & 14 two-parter manages to become one of my favourite parts of the season. First season it was Firestorm, second season it was Earth-2 and now it has been Grodd.

As I would have thought with this episode it starts off with the characters interacting with each other and then slowly builds up to a fight at the end. Given this it felt a little tedious knowing that all the effort put to stopping Grodd from entering the city would eventually fail. So to save us from getting bored we have fun moments with H.R., Harry and Cisco. These three consistently get a laugh out of me. However, Harry was a little too angry this episode, too many remarks of how stupid H.R. is. Anyway, it's nice to have Harry back, the serious Wells who provides actual help.

Barry and Iris was good this episode. I'm not overly into the romance in the Arrowverse shows but they've convinced me this season and has given it a better purpose within the story. Saving Iris is the mission and so far nothing has improved her chances of surviving. Which results in Barry suggesting that he should kill Grodd to stop this once and for all and just maybe that will change the future. I was actually a bit concerned for a few minutes when he suggested it. I don't want to see Grodd die but they have mentioned that there is a Grodd on Earth-19 and this show has replaced villains before (Weather Wizard, Killer Frost). Barry going dark now that the future is soon to be the present is not something I would want but I can understand why they'd hint at that outcome.

Grodd was great in this episode. The CGI gorilla army looked great. In my review for the previous episode I wrote that I wanted them to get Solovar to help fight Grodd. That's exactly what we got! I'm so glad we got that, it was awesome to watch and hopefully we will meet Solovar again in a future season. Now that ARGUS has Grodd, is there any chance we could see a Grodd/King Shark team-up? That would be the dream. Or Grodd escapes and ARGUS sends out King Shark to take him down, that would be even better.

Can't forget to mention that we got a short moment with Earth-19's Flash AKA the Accelerated Man. I hope we get to see him in an upcoming episode, his purple lightning was cool. Wonder if that makes him faster than Barry or if he got the powers in a different way or they just wanted him to seem more special.

At the end we got a tease of Savitar, finally he's coming back. He's the main villain but he has only showed up in three episodes. Hopefully they'll build up his character more.

All in all, this was a fantastic episode, Grodd vs. Solovar was exactly what I wanted, it was awesome and now Savitar's back in the game!
