Its tones of black humor and slapstick made the movie funny enough for me
maurodc6 August 2017
My family and I have always trusted in french cinema as one of the bests. Yesterday, after watching 'Dunkirk', we entered to see this one. We had already seen the trailer, and our expectations were high for this to be absolutely entertaining.

But the thing about Alibi.com is that it isn't only entertaining, but it is hilarious as hell! Really, I wasn't expecting its tones of dark humor/slapstick present throughout the movie. It probably was because the movie, according to the cinema were I saw it, was rated B (which in Mexico it's like PG-13). And well, I wouldn't think of it as a movie suitable for pre-teens, or for children.

7/10. It is absurd, silly and stupid at times, but believe, that is exactly the reason of seeing this nice french flick.

Enjoy!

Imaginative comedy

The plot of the movie is really funny, but is it really not a tendency to abuse animals? Poor dog is always thrown out.

Big iphone Ad...When money talks louder than talent
buzzy_bob3 September 2020
The crew of this movie was wonderful when they didn't have mainstream success. They were original and hilarious. See Babysitting. Since then, apart from the movie "Nicky Larson" that was great but maybe mainly because of the nostalgia, they just do movies after movies trying to get the art they once had. It happens when genuine people get rich too quick I guess... Now they just want to show off, invite the most inexpensive and once famous guys in their movie to do as mainstream industry does and lost almost all their genuine comedy talent (a lot of scenes describe that, but one in the first part of the movie resume everything: the main actor and director dance with ridiculous glasses in an old music miming slapstick comedy, but showing every muscle he can...). If they could show more iphones on the first plan, I'm sure they would. Finally, Almost all jokes are recycled... Don't get me wrong, there is moment where you're gonna laugh, mainly if you've never seen one of their movies. For me, the crew lost themselves on too much champagne. I rate it 5 because I'm confident that if you don't know the crew, you will enjoy this title more than me.

Actually pretty funny
jannikpeveling22 August 2021
Its an average comedy with a lot of clichees and a typical romatic-comedy plot. But I have to admit that I had to laugh a few times and many jokes worked pretty well. So if you are searching for a funny comedy at a evening after a stressful day at work and you don't want to use much brain this movie is a pretty good fit.

Nothing new, but they put these clichés of raunchy comedies to good use
kaptenvideo-8987525 May 2017
A French comedy which feels like a mainstream American comedy – with all the animal- and sex-jokes, partying, misadventures and wacky characters you can digest in 90 minutes. And it's sweet! The story is about hot new startup that creates alibis for people who want to lie to other people (seems that paying customers are mostly cheating husbands or boyfriends). Then, the founder of the company is lucky to meet the love of his life, and suddenly uniting work and private affairs gets really difficult. This is fast-moving mainstream comedy so the actors are more adequate than great. Surprisingly, the best and most nuanceful performance comes from Élodie Fontan who's supposed to be just a pretty girl in a supporting role (the love interest mentioned above). What's most interesting about the male leads – the people behind the alibi-creating company – is that two of them also wrote the screenplay, and the leading man Philippe Lacheau is both co- screenwriter and director. That's a lot of work for one pretty boy! And what a nice ride it is! Jokes come thick and fast, the actors are likable enough to command our attention, and the story is surprisingly layered. Beside the main events, one can spot not-too-obvious movie jokes („Bloodsport", „Star Wars", „Snatch.", „Assassin's Creed" among others), light satirical jabs at current world events, buddy and screwball comedy elements, and separate story lines suddenly interwining shortly for some added comic effect. They have used quite a lot of clichés known to current mainstream (American) comedies but the result feels fresh and inventive. There's enough good energy and bravura to justify the viewing even if you don't usually much care about the sex jokes. I've only seen about 25 movies released in 2017 so far, but „Alibi.com" is my second favorite after „Get Out". Nothing new here, really, but they sure knew how to put these clichés of raunchy comedies to good use. Yeah!

Tired, distasteful and totally not funny
szemoldokfozelek22 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I went to see the movie with good expectations, because the basic idea of a company providing alibis for people who have some skeletons in the closet had so much potential for good situation comedy. I couldn't be more wrong. The movie combines "comedy of errors" situations we've seen a million times (e.g. Husband tries to hide from his wife with his lover, and voila, the wife shows up at the same hotel) with gags that are both predictable and disgusting (cat harassing a man's exposed hanging testicles, three guys hiding under the bed while a fourth one jerks off on the bed, a guy on a wine tasting drinks other people's spit etc.). It is not saved even by the forced references to Star Wars (two guys fighting with colored neon-tubes) or Assassin's Creed. The movie even jokes about things like the migrant crisis (which is a sensitive topic today in Europe, especially in France) and a little boy taken to institution. Comedy, right? I would not recommend this movie to anyone who thinks that humor is above the level of body fluids and tired "embarrassing" situations.

Missed Opportunity
aew-1018 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been good, but .... There are other films in this vein: "The Wedding Crashers", a Will Smith film and a french one whose name eludes me. The protagonist runs a business that provides alibis with himself avoiding entanglements with women. You know what is going to happen as the plot is a cliche: a part of the way through the film he falls for a girl, his business is revealed, it all crashes down and he debases himself for the girl. The film also has a mean spirit in terms of people getting hurt for a laugh: a run-away golf cart hits a trampoline displacing it sideways. The man jumping on it splats himself onto the ground - not funny same golf cart careers towards a sand castle, but collides with the boy building it instead - not funny same boy is hit in the face with a stone from some casual stone skipping on water. The protagonists slink away a child conceived out of wedlock, as a consequence of the chief protagonist, is unceremoniously dumped outside an orphanage a pair of testicles is shown hanging below a park bench (itself distasteful) is attacked by a feral cat (extreme variation of kick in the groin cliche)

Morality.com

And love.com come to think of it. What would romantic comedies be if they weren't predictable ... at least a little bit. But that is not why we watch them. Sometimes we are forced (by our significant other, our mood and so forth), sometimes we just need them to feel better.

What always helps are charismatic leads and a funny story/script. Well I can attest that both are present here. This is funny and while you can see where it goes the minute it starts, there are moments that will catch you by surprise ... like many scenes with the dog ... or the ending! Which I kind of knew what it was while it played out, but it is fun to see how it resolved and ... revealed! Very fine little movie for a good time, with a few darker jokes to boost.

A pretty juvenile comedy but with a few surprise laughs. Definitely better than a Sandler...

Helping hand
kosmasp15 August 2021
If you had the chance to hire someone to help you out, would you do it? Would you feel bad about it? I think it is safe to say that the movie is quite predictable, yet it is made fun by the actors in it. Yes there is a moral anchor and yes the main actors are attractive (also they apparently are together in real life if that is something you are interested in), but it is also light considering the subject matter ... well apart from the jokes involving the dog (and some other stuff) ... those get pretty dark.

You also have one of the better endings. I knew what was happening and could see ... what was what ... but it is a nice thing to see - especially the way it is solved. More than good enough to say the least.

Most of the time: not funny at all. Boring, with a few good jokes. Few. Really.

Disappointing not funny
a-sapnagyte1 May 2021
Few parts were funny, but not much. Acting terrible. Reminded on a cheap movie budget. Some jokes are too rude to laugh about. Totally overrated. I would give 4/5 score to this movie.

If this film was made by Adam Sandler it would've torn to pieces and get the Razzies but when french make it they say it's comedy. Terrible acting terrible screenplay. References for idiots.
