This movie is worth watching. You will forget about popcorn. I didn't notice how 2 hours had passed. It impressed me more than Revenant. It made me cry a few times. It is very deep and dramatic. Kozlovsky is not just very handsome, but also a talented actor! You totally believe everything he does. The movie combines both Russian drama traditions and modern action. The plot concerns not just a catastrophe, but also important issues like family values, human dignity and courage. Bright, colorful, emotional, interesting to watch. Inspired by the 1979 Soviet film Air Crew, it was the second catastrophe film shot in the Russian Federation. The film was shot in digital 3D IMAX camera and become the second Russian film shot using this equipment after Stalingrad (2013) by Fedor Bondarchuk. The filming took place in Moscow, Moscow region and in the Crimean peninsula. In the peninsula they filmed on as the earthquake-prone island volcano in the Indian Ocean. The crew has shot the flight scenes in two planes: The Tupolev Tu-204SM (RA-64151 board) and decommissioned Tupolev Tu-154 of Kosmos Airlines (RA-85796 board).

Wow, what an incredible action adventure disaster film! The film has three very definite acts: the first is the introduction of the characters, and is interesting in its own right as we get to know the very likable characters. The second act is just complete mayhem. My goodness, it was awesome, as the film took us on a very unexpected turn. There are earthquakes, a volcanic eruption, incredible destruction scenes, runways collapsing, people running for their lives! The third is essentially a rescue operation, as the crew and passengers must overcome obstacle upon obstacle in mid-air between two aircraft. Wow, wow, wow, if you're a disaster movie fan and not entertained by this, I honestly don't know what would!
There comes a time for everyone to prove their worth.

The Russian disaster film, partially inspired by the 1980 film of the same name. One of the film to do good business outside the domestic market, particularly in Japan and China. So there are lots of great stuff about it, from filmmaking to the box office and I enjoyed watching it, but did not like it as overwhelmingly. That does not mean it is overrated, but I liked it less, that's all.
It is set to tell the story of life of pilots, their personal life, such as trouble with romance, family issues and tackling obstacles in their professional line, especially when they were needed the most. So in the first half it was all about drama, an introduction to what comes in the latter half. A pilot father struggling with his troublesome teen son. And another pilot who got fired from the Russian air force, now in a private airline where he meets a woman, but having a difficulty to stabilise the relationship.
When the second half begins, the narration completely flips. Like it is a different film, particularly brings attention to the action- adventure fans. Fate brings them all together in a plane and they decide to evacuate people who are stranded in an airport near the Alaskan region island when it was hit by volcanoes and a series of earth quicks. The remaining is to reveal the heroic acts by the pilots and Co.

Visually, it was good. All those crucial parts of the graphics were rendered neatly. Even the stunt sequences were composed so well. But some of them were unrealistic. That's very common, even for a Hollywood film, so I think it's not a big deal. My issue was the film length. It was over two hours long and I did not like much of the first part. The next half was quite good, because of its thriller. When I thought it's over, the narration surprised with another adventure followed by in the final segment.
Like usual this Russian film too has been built on the corruption plot. Not the whole film, but in the initial stage. The influenced people who target the honest employees for going against them. Really a good theme, but when the disaster part takes over, everything will be forgotten. Then it gets edgy, so that's where you will forget the time and sit straight to enjoy it. If you had seen plenty of similar heroic films, then it will be another okayish type. If not, you will have a good time with it.
It took an hour to get into action-adventure, but in those times, it failed to build the romance part to its best. I'm disappointed with that since it had fine actors and situation to build on. The Father- son duo looked much better. In the second half, nothing of these sentimentally appealed as it should have been, not for me. Because it became more a heroic type with sacrifice than family and relationship influence. So overall it's a good attempt, a nice film for the weekend watch.

Fun exciting action, when they get to it, makes up for the bad dubbing and Cliché characters

Ok this filmed is filled with Cliché characters, bad dubbing and rather unrealistic . But if you can get passed all that, and understand this is a foreign made film streaming on Netflix and keep your expectations accordingly. When the action finally starts ramping up. It's a fun, exciting, on the edge of your seat action film. I actually enjoyed it.

This movie was a surprise for me. I knew that Russian cinema is good, but I have never seen a Russian movie with complicated special effects, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Without going into the details of the plot, this is a movie that has a mix of issues that are usually dealt with separately, and here they are interconnected. A love relationship, two separate son-father relationships (between Alex, the main character and his father, as well as between Alex's boss and his son), adventure and even satire on the way workplace relationships are handled in Russia, as well as a basic human desire to help fellow humans and be brave, all are smartly combined to produce a very satisfying movie that keeps you in continuous suspense. The special effects are impressive and would not shame a Hollywood movie. Highly recommended.

This film took its time, in the first half nothing of importance happened only that the protagonist is struggling as rookie pilot and also his love life. And a subplot about a recalcitrant teenage son of the main pilot. It'll surely bore you out, but by the second half, this film took a dramatic turn, when the protagonists' plane went to rescue people on a volcanic island that's about to erupt. There were tense moments and the CGI was wow, very decent, the cinematography was outstanding as well, some wide shot of the island with molten magma dripping down and the take-off through all the burning debris field scenes were breathtaking. However, this film became far-fetched toward the end, transferring people from one plane to the other, seemed very unlikely to be possible. In higher altitudes like that the air pressure will be low, so the oxygen will be scanty and the temp will be extremely low which all makes their chances of survival very little to nothing without inhaling supplemental oxygen. Moreover, one of the character that came up with the idea said he "saw it in a movie" so there's that.
In summary, the performances were all decent, the soundtrack was good, the cinematography was amazing and the CGI was a standout. Very entertaining film with slow start but adrenaline-filled second half.

Thrilling action, although not very probable (and realistic?). Nicely developed relationships between family, lovers and colleagues with a crush, although partly a bit cliché in the end. Good portion of humor and good acting. Impressing cinematography and effects. Overall entertaining.

I thought this film was gonna be bad with bad CGI with a low budget of $9 million. But I was COMPLETELY WRONG, this is probably one of the best disaster films I have ever watched. And a lot of disaster films have been made.
You have this young pilot who was discharged by the Air force than by the airforce transport division. He then asks his father for help and his father called a Russian airliner.
The airliner didn't want to hire more people on the spot but when they saw sixhun on the simulator they were very impressed about his skills. He eventually became a trainee pilot.
When he was flying to Asia on a small Russian plane an earthquake happened on a nearby island which is situated on an active volcano. They decided to land at the airport which was full of people trying to get off the island. Another earthquaked happened and then the longest runway collapsed which meant planes can't depart or land execpt light aircraft. Another plane full of passengers attempted to take off but was unable to and crashed killing everyone aboard the plane. The captain son went with the trainee pilot to help children stuck on a mountain, but the lava came too fast which destroyed one of the vans and blocked the path. Nobody got injured. They were left with one choice but to go down the cliff. Meanwhile the captain went into a cargo plane at the other side of the small airport and they attempted to takeoff and was successful but did puncture the fuel tank on the left wing. The other plane was still on the tarmac waiting for the trainee and the other people to arrive. They arrived and attempted a takeoff on the small runway. They waited for the water tower next to the burning fuel on the runway to collapse to put the fire out. It collapsed while the plane was accelerating. That was a thrilling scene.
Midair the cargo plane ran out of oil and the other plane was perusing the cargo plane they decided to make a zip line to the commercial airliner because the cargo plane would fall out of the sky soon. The plan worked but about 10 people died in the process.
They then went to land at the nearest international airport and landed successfully but the right wing came off and both engines fell off and the landing gear.
The passanger are relieved but the trainee pilot just walked away from the scene.
After this event the 3 pilots became trainees in aeroflot the largest Russian airliner.

The Movie itself is pretty good on how it's made. It's build up really well throughout by introducing the characters and the struggles they have in their lives. The story is standard for a disaster movie goes and isn't the best told. There's a couple of side plots that goes on what you expected like the romance plotline and the relationship between a father and his son. The characters are build up pretty well in this movie. When it gets to the disaster scenes that's when the movie becomes suspenseful. It shows the danger the characters are in like a active volcano and flowing lava towards them. The special effects are done really well in this movie and looks somewhat realistic. Later in the movie there's a scene that I don't even know if it's possible to do in real life and is extremely dangerous to do it.
Overall I have fun watching this movie.

The most predecible film ever.
When you try to make a thriller, you must be aware to make it credible, only to be emphatic with the characters. I can tolerate the lava, the destruction of the city, but every single frame that happens in the plain is... Impossible. A Sharknado happening in the mind of a Russian guy that have 10M$ to make this horrible movie.
The main actor is the worst one I have ever seen: when he should be afraid, he stay calm. The best one, the father of the annoying teenager.
The first part of the movie is really boring. The love triangle is stupid and the movie ends with the worst Movie scene ever.

I really felt as if I were in that situation ... also i agreed with comment of Olga Latayeva Although usually watch Hollywood movies,
this Russian movie surprised me,
good acting and quality effects in film and action congratulations ... my recommendation to view this movie ..... Very reserved acting talent captain and auxiliary pilots. These roles are done very professionally and at a high level.

This is a Russian air disaster thriller that centers on young pilot Alexey Gushchin (Danila Kozlovsky). Alex is a good pilot who has trouble with authority. He is big hearted and does the right thing, not minding who he angers. He was kicked out of the military for disobeying a direct order and is now working for a commercial airline, not getting fired by a friend. He was quick to acquire another pilot as a girlfriend.
He is being "trained" by Leonid Zinchenko (Vladimir Mashkov) who has changed his opinion of Alex as our threesome end up on a humanitarian mission to Kanwoo faced with the rescue of many civilians, a volcano, and all that stuff that was in the simulator.
The climax scene was not shot well. It should have looked more perilous. The English dubbing had a British accent and I though a disagreeable officer was doing Churchill.
Guide: No nudity. No swearing. Implied sex scene.

The movie is a Russian disaster movie. The movie is a beautifully made movie and kudos to the director for making such beauty. The screenplay in the first half is slow but gripping in the later part. The credit should be given to director for keeping small details intact like the beep sound of putting on seatbelts while landing and in one of the scene where the passengers is transported from one plane to another You can see ice on the face which causes due to low temperature in the sky. Background music is good and supports the screenplay. VFX is great specially the scene where the lava is flowing from the mountains. To end with this is a good and entertaining movie.

This movie tries to be serious, but to me it was absolutely hilarious. Like trying to combine Airplane! , Die Hard, Indiana Jones, and few others thrown in for good measure. Combine that with some good looking (but not that good at acting!) actors and actresses, and you've got yourself one of the most un-credible movies ever made.
But on the other hand I think the movie put itself into the Guinness Book for a truly crazy script, completely outrageous.
If you're asking yourself whether its worth watching it overall, even as comedy, then I'm afraid the answer is no...I could think of many other bad movies that might appear like masterpieces next to this.

This film is essentially a remake of the famous Soviet film "The crew" with a very similar plot about the rescue by the crew of an aircraft injured from a volcanic island on which a volcano is erupting.
If we compared this film with the origin, the new one looks, of course, more colorful, it has a lot of great special effects. The plot is slightly changed. It concerns the relationship between the crew of the aircraft, their personal stories. It hasn't the line with the child of one of the crew members. It has only two good storylines - these are the lines of the pilots, the aircraft commander and the second pilot.
As for acting, it doesn't raise any questions. All the actors who play there, do your job well, especially the duo of actors who play the roles of pilots - Vladimir Mashkov and Danila Kozlovsky.
In general, this film is very, very decent, really looks good, you can watch it in one breath. You are really worried about the pilots, the crew, the passengers. I can recommend it for viewing.

Flight Crew is a Russian disaster movie in which a flight crew gets stuck in an island and needs to get out of there. This is an awful movie. There's barely any redeeming quality to this movie. The directing is horrendous, with really weird stylistic choices and no sense of progression. This is one of the worst edited movies ever. There is so many awful transitions between scenes that baffled me. The acting is really bad. But it was really entertaining and hilarious. Not in the way the filmmakers expected. The main characters make horrible decisions and they are not believable at all. The final shot is so memorable that I was baffled at how anybody could see this and think that is OK. The story is clichéd and boring. The character's logic doesn't make any sense. This is a very entertaining movie to watch since you laugh at the stupidity of the movie. It was a very boring but also hilarious experience. 1/10

Too painful and unbelievable to watch to its conclusion, despite handsome actors and actresees. The whole premise defies belief. A volcanic island populated by miners and tourists? A scheduled civilian airline flight diverted to pick up survivors? What about the (presumably paying) passengers? Cantilevered runways built across volcanic peaks? Please!!!

Some of the best grand scale fiery destruction scenes I've seen. Wow! I found myself screaming at the screen in amazement. Great acting! Some of the subtitles read off- maybe incorrectly translated but for the most part an awesome movie. I think the second Pilot's name is Sasha. They changed it to Sandra for American audiences. Why? The film does slow a bit but still a Great Throw-back Airport/Airplane vs Nature Adventure. Loved it!

Inspiring story of male heroism and ingenuity to overcome a cascade of catastrophes. Fantastic special effects that look real. Impossible to imagine this movie being made in the U.S. of 2018. Russia has attitudes of male heroism that are no longer publicly acceptable in the U.S.
