Sex & Nudity

- A group of children look on at a drunken, old woman sunbathing topless at hotel pool and comment on the size of her breasts. The most the viewer sees is the outline.
- A man walks around a motel and talks to a group of children in a way that implies he is a pedophile; he is diverted and then chased off by the motel's owner.
- There are occasional references to "dancing for tips" and "getting laid" by adults around children.
- After a man threatens to evict her from the motel, a woman grudgingly pulls her menstrual pad out from her shorts and slaps it onto the man's office window. Has a humorous if crude context.
- A main character is braless in several sequences of the film. The outline of her breasts is visible in most of them.
- Brief crude sexual gestures
- A main character sees men in her motel room while her child is in the bathtub. The implication is that she is an occasional prostitute.

- Several scenes of people fist fighting. Blood is minimal, but in a later scene one of the victims is shown with a black eye.

- A woman is beaten up in front of her child and multiple punches are seen and heard landing.

- A woman asks when she can "smoke a blunt" with someone.
- A woman about to leave a motel gives her friend in the laundry room a bag of marijuana as a parting gift.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- The whole mood of the film is intense, frankly depicting the hardships in a Florida motel whose tenants are "hidden homeless," and mostly through the eyes of children.
- The last 30 minutes of this film can be very upsetting to many viewers

- A woman poses seductively in a bathing suit in an ad for prostitution.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- When Moonee learns that she is being taken away to foster care, she runs over to her friend's house. She then sobs relentlessly. This scene is heartbreaking because it is the first time in the film that she shows such emotions.
