Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure how to rank this film. I liked the basic plot. Girl meets domineering male who somehow traps her in his mind and she has to escape. I wish his ability had been explained better, more background was needed to bring characters to life and make us invest in them.

There were massive plot holes as well. sometimes they were in her memories sometimes his but how or why they switched when he was supposedly in control was never really explained. Apparently in his memories what he says or wants just happens, but this isn't so for the female lead when in her memories? Again, not explained!

He had how many victims and one minute they are separated by an invisible force then not. Somehow the lead is past, present and future.... I mean what? Story is all over the place and makes very little sense.

The most convincing actress/ actor was his wife.

This really could be a good movie if the story was straightened out, script adapted and a few decent more understated actors being hired. The concept itself reminds me of a few great movies but this is so far from great.

Abysmal.

A new contender for the worst pile of steaming... Rubbish I've ever seen. Who writes this nonsense? Who wrote those reviews???

Awful plot, terrible script, complete amateur direction, and those actors... Were they dragged straight in off the street? I can't imagine they've spent a single day in drama school between them.

I felt awkward watching this and embarrassed for everyone involved. I need a shower now...

This is nonsense
nogodnomasters7 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Don't get too attached to Talli (Maja-Celiné Probst) because she is choked to death in the first scene. This is good because her acting was poor. OH WAIT! This is an existential film, sort of. So Talli, who can't read her poorly scripted dialogue is in every scene as we flashback to her miserable lie. The film would not have been too bad if Damian (Gregory B. Waldis ), the antagonist, had a sense of humor.

Not worth the time.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity. Worth a punch on the hacker's card if you can make it all the way through it.

I think just about the worse movie I have ever seen. Complete and utter nonsense. Unwatchable garbage. Terrible lead actor. Only saving grace that it was short in running length.

You will have no idea what's going on.
iamthehollow1 December 2018
This film is appalling...it has no sense of anything that would go into a good film.

I have no idea what was happening from one excruciating minute to the next, we have actors who either don't act or totally overact...I am having a hard time remembering anything about it and I only just finished it.

The director is trying for a mysterious atmosphere but only succeeds in making the viewer angry and impatient...for its quite brisk run time it's interminably long.

I suppose the female audience might get something out of this...but I'm not a female audience and I thought it stank.

Something went wrong somewhere
mjsreg13 January 2019
I don't get how this film gained the high rating reviews here.

It is difficult to specify any particular thing. I think it is the way the story is told and the fairly uninteresting way events unfold.

There is no atmosphere. It is as though the shots were just shot without any thought to the content of the scene or how to invoke any kind of visual reinforcement of the action taking place or the emotions of the character.

Perhaps under different artistic control the film would have been something else, something worth watching. But as it is it just doesn't cut it.

One of the worst movies of century! Not even worth to watch!!!
XueHuaBingYu29 November 2018
I really don't understand why this film gets the rating 5.7 as it doesn't even deserve 1 from me. (But I gave 1 star anyway to show the appreciation of budget.) If I have to use one word to describe this one, the word would be "terrible". This film is one of the worst movies that I have ever watched. Maybe the director is really bad at presentation. The presentation was totally awful mess. I don't even understand this film. So, it's one of the films which I don't understand the contents including Cloud Atlas and Interstellar.

Moreover, the film is really bad, so boring and nothing to gain from it. I stopped watching after 10 minutes later. It's totally unwatchable. Watching this film is totally waste of time and also money. If you value time and money, don't ever watch this film.

Terrible!!!
alexezeoke10 November 2021
I have watched bad movies but this is by far the worst I have dared to watch which I didn't as a quarter of the way through, I started a Google search to wiki it and read through it.

Seeing how bad it is, I do not think any sane person has watched it to the end to even add a wiki page for it. The plot, script, actors, scene and music are so bad that I would not even classify it as a B-rated movie.

Those giving it 2 - 10 stars and positive reviews must be friends and family of the director, actors, scriptor or producers.

Believe me.... IT IS BAD!!!

Here for it.

Pretty mind-bendy indie film. Had fun just trying to figure out how all of this was going to add up! At times it's high concept isn't serviced by some of the budget limitations but it's worth checking out if you like bizarre parallel universe drama. Highly specific crowd!

Unique and different thriller
myproductionstx2 January 2019
Juliane Block's "8 Remains" is a beautiful, a mind-bender thriller. Not everything is spelled out and left for the viewer's imagination. Which makes the story more complex. The visuals are stunning, creating definitions between the worlds, production design sets the tone beautifully, the locations are sprawling and remote estate. For an indie the special effects practice and digital are very impressive. This is a unique and creepy film with a twisty turny story.

Not my bag, but got through it
diqs13 February 2019
I don't mind a good mind bender, but this one requires some staying power to get through it. Having said that they have done a great job visually for an indie, but the pace and story kinda starts bad, then gets better - aided by the achingly beautiful Maja-Celiné Probst.

This film has no idea what it is?

The plot is thin at best, acting is better suited to a pantomime.

Best thing about this film is it's short.

Do yourself a favour and read a book or go for a walk instead.

Simply put; half a million pounds would have better served a charity. Instead the filmmakers produced this croc o' s**t! I want to know who fronted the money for this project so I can take them for a ride aswell!

Intriguing film
jversical10 December 2018
Overall, I enjoyed this film. Beautifully shot, sometimes over-acted/scripted, but overall I thought the film was well executed. The overall premise of the film is interesting: in the midst of dying, a woman is given a chance to relive her life to better equip herself to fight her killer. Parallels to the fight for gender equality are implied and well executed.

Maja Celine Probst does a remarkable job portraying the lead character Talli. Her young acting career faces a bright future, and her performance in this film is top notch. Gregory Waldis plays a good villain, though I think the direction and script could have subdued his character to be less Jack Nicolson ala "The Shining" and less of a caricature of an evil man/oppressor.

Despite being a bit hard to follow at first as soon as Talli enters the past, I thought the film was overall well executed and is definitely worth checking out for anyone who enjoys a good thriller with a strong hint of Black Mirror.

A beautiful film for those who love unusual stories and intrigue
tamaravorobyeva8 December 2018
This is a movie for aesthetes with many beautiful locations. I liked a lot of quickly changing scenes. The regisseur keeps the story line up to the very last minute. The performer of the main male role (Gregory B. Waldis) is awesome! This movie is definitely not for somebody who needs a clear story line and specific number of technical effects (although there were more technical effects than I could expect from an indie team). It is rather more mix of thriller and action wich are shown in a slow motion. It makes it especially interesting for female audience (here I agree with "iamthehollow"),

Interesting feminist revenge / redemption flick
jc-655-86943410 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The female protagonist undergoes a journey of self-awareness and transformation through a time-travel plot. The film gathers emotional strength in the second half when story strands and characters come together in the film's resolution. While not immediately obvious at first glance, it seems like the film narrative is channelling a composite of female experiences at the hands of an emotionally manipulative man, and is arguably a feminist revenge / redemption flick with supernatural twists and turns. Juliane Block's '8 Remains' has really lovely visuals and special effects and I particularly like the graphics accompanying end-credits.

Interesting thriller with a hint of Nightmare on Elmstreet
marc-739825 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It may be hard to call this a typical thriller so I would like to compare it with a mix of a suspense/mystery thriller and Nightmare on Elmstreet.

Without spoiling too much I say that because the main character is trapped in a dreamworld, after being nearly choked to death by her sociopath boyfriend. At first she finds herself helpless and doesn't know what's going on. From there on out she has to face her fears and start fighting to get back to the land of the living. There are others who help the heroine get the upper hand in the dream world and that is as much as I am going to say, so go ahead and watch it yourself!

The film is set in a ominous castle amongst a few other interesting locations and the story and cinematography set up a great mood for the film from the beginning.

This being a low budget indie film surprised me about the high production values. The castle location itself is amazing, the visuals are artsy and grungy. Not the typical clean and neat Hollywood look of many films which would have been inappropriate for the story. Everything seems to fit well.

However it's not all perfect, I would have wished for some more background story on why and how the heroine of the movie is being thrown in this dream world. Parts of it are a bit vague and the film doesn't tackle a few other minor things in detail. I am all up for leaving imagination to the audience but a little idea or guidance to give more background story would be nice.

I liked the ending, it's exactly the ending the film deserves and an audience would anticipate, although I would have loved the production to have a bigger budget to end the film with a bigger bang... again I won't say more than that as not to spoil it for others.

Bottomline: A good mystery thriller with a touch of horror which keeps you on your toes until the end.

Excited to watch it again!
bgianci-790-77254012 January 2019
I'm a big fan of psychological thrillers, especially the ones that make the audience pay very close attention to understand the complexity of the narrative. With that being said, this existential film about a strong woman literally fighting for her life, didn't disappoint. Very well crafted story with great acting and really cool effects. It will be cool to watch it again now that I know the twist!!

Sci Fi Meets Psychological Thriller
mentalrev16 July 2019
8 Remains is an innovative, non-linear thriller that twists and turns in a psychological realm of its own. at its core is an examination of inter-generational trauma, and the strength to combat the forces that seek to violate and craft "a perfect world" of male supremacy. The turning point is a slow burn but totally worth it when it comes, and everyone has to confront they're true selves, no longer able to hide in their fantasies.

The performances, cinematography and editing are all top notch. This is a film that will stick with you after it's over and leave you satisfied in the end.
