Exclusive: Comedian Tom Segura has identified the most promising vehicle yet to showcase his acting chops, as Deadline understands that he’s in talks for multiple roles in Dirty Rotten Bastard, a show biz-centric indie from Ed Helms & Mike Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Company.
Helmed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, aka The Director Brothers, the film tells the insane true story of an aspiring filmmaker who is kidnapped by deranged lounge singer Tony Clifton. Initially drawn to document Clifton’s world, he is thrust into a chaotic journey of sex, celebrity, and comedy, blurring the lines between observer and participant, and testing his sanity.
Segura will play legendary avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman’s larger-than-life comedic persona Clifton, as well as the performer’s friend and longtime collaborator Bob Zmuda.
Zmuda was known to switch off with Kaufman in portraying Clifton, a foul-mouthed lounge singer out of Las Vegas,...

Last December, when former “Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller was accused of sexual assault by an anonymous woman and transphobic behavior by a film critic in the space of just two days, the actor and comedian was swiftly snipped from two big projects. First, Miller’s Comedy Central series “The Gorburger Show” was cancelled, then the mucus medication Mucinex dropped the comedian as its animated spokesperson. (He had previously left “Silicon Valley” in its fourth season, and the actor made it clear that he didn’t have any interest in returning to the HBO comedy; the newest season of the show has already nodded at killing his character off-screen.)
But one huge project didn’t abandon Miller: Steven Spielberg’s splashy new blockbuster, “Ready Player One,” which cast Miller as a bad guy in June of 2016, just one month before production was slated to begin on a production that Spielberg...

2017-12-20T07:27:41-08:00Comedy Central Cancels T.J. Miller Series
In an unfortunate coincidence for T.J. Miller, his Comedy Central series The Gorburger Show was cancelled on the same day that stories of an alleged sexual assault in his past surfaced. Comedy Central says the two events are unrelated and that it was planning to cancel the series before news of the alleged assault broke. Since leaving Silicon Valley on less-than-friendly terms, Miller has landed several supporting roles in movies, but his first starring vehicle, the animated The Emoji Movie, flopped over the summer.

Film critic Danielle Solzman has accused T.J. Miller of sending a transphobic email to her after she published a negative review of the animated comedy film “The Emoji Movie.” Solzman, who identifies as a transgender woman, posted the email to Twitter on September 27, but blacked out the name of the sender out of fear of “legal threats” against her. Following a report from The Daily Beast on December 19 in which an anonymous woman accused Miller of sexual assault in college, Solzman tweeted that the email came from Miller.

T.J. Miller’s “The Gorburger Show” has been scrapped by Comedy Central after one season, the network announced Tuesday. The news of the animated series’ cancellation comes the same day the Daily Beast reported sexual misconduct accusations against Miller dating from his college days. However, the network had already made the decision earlier this year not to continue with the show, a source with knowledge of production tells TheWrap. Miller both operated and voiced Gorburger, an alien puppet character, for an alternative talk show. Comedy Central is not going forward with The Gorburger Show, its alternative late-night show based on T.J. Miller's Funny or Die/Warner Music web series. It aired in an eight-episode Season 1 earlier this year. A network spokesman said the decision came before allegations from an anonymous woman surfaced today in the Daily Beast accusing Miller of sexual assault while a student at George Washington University in the early 2000s. Miller has denied the claims. We’re…...
