By the time 2018 rolls around, John Kraskinski is hoping you’ll see him as more than just Jim Halpert from “The Office.” He’ll be going into action mode over at Amazon, leading “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” and he also takes the lead in “A Quiet Place,” which sees him go Full Beard for what looks like a pretty cool thriller.

Once upon a time, “The Mercy” had the makings of an Oscar player. With a cast led by Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz, tackling a true story directed by James Marsh (“The Theory Of Everything,” “Man On Wire”), the ingredients were there for something special. However, the film — which started shooting in early 2015 — has been conspicuously quiet and hasn’t appeared at any prestigious festivals.
