A tear jerker
maligor519 November 2018
This episode was suitable to be a season finale. Miller dry sense of humor was on display all episode alone on the Eros with his "pet" nuke. The final scene was something you rarely see on any non premium channel shows, let alone a sci fi show. One of the most touching moments in TV history.

How can they top this?
dianos24 February 2017
Definitely some of the best Sifi I have ever seen. Not sure how they can top this episode and it's just mid season. I agree completely with the previous comment, it would make an epic ending in a movie. I haven't read the books, but the story can certainly go anywhere, lets hope Miller is around for the ride.

Masterpiece
85122214 June 2017
Greetings from Lithuania.

To call "Home", 5th episode of "The Expanse" great or amazing would be an underestimating thing. This is a masterpiece, pure and simple.

I did enjoy this show so far, which had a great story and a decent production values yet i wasn't blown away by it. The story was great but overall it wasn't amazing show - it was just good. But this particular episode was like "Ozymandias" from "Breaking Bad" - the highlight of the entire show (so far). And its not only a highlight of this show - everything here worked on the highest possible notes - directing (terrific pacing), writing, music, acting - this has to be one of the very best episodes I've ever seen with the ending that did generated a small tear in my eye.

Overall, whether you did or not love this show so far, "Home" is not only a standout 43 minutes of "The Expanse" - this is a masterpiece of a small screen cinema.

Nailed It

Last night's episode of "The Expanse" on SyFy brings the show up to the end of the first book, "Leviathan Wakes," and they hit a home run with this production. A well funded, written, and produced long run television series with author involvement is the new standard for bringing epic future fiction to the audience. Even a short and simple book like "Ender's Game" struggles to fit into the two hour big screen format without hugs cuts and annoying compression; it took fifteen 40 minute shows to tell the story of "Leviathan Wakes" adequately. I am looking forward to "Hyperion" with great excitement!

I Want to Go Home

Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode of the best show on television. Home is the most emotionally moving and satisfying episode of the series. The sacrifices our beloved characters are willing to make and do make are truly moving. The scope of this episode is astonishing. We see a man end his journey when he rediscovers his humanity in the embrace of an alien wonder. We also see his ultimate sacrifice to save Earth and possibly humanity. It is a transcendent moment. Folks, it does not get any better than this!

Unbelievable
Induswa18 January 2019
This may be the best episode of tv I've ever seen. I've been a fan of this show since the beginning but this hour was just unbelievable.

The tension of the situation between Miller on the menacing Eros, the crew on the Rocinante and the brain trust on Earth is amazing.

I don't know how the producers, writers and actors did it but they must be proud of their achievement. After watching it I was stunned. That's NEVER happened to me before with television.

Season 2, episode 5. Perfection.

Danger Mouse
franjopavlek23 February 2017
I don't remember siting on the edge of the seat the whole episode since I was watching Danger Mouse as a kid. This episode was just great, but you have to fallow the story for a season an a half to understand it fully. I think not all episodes are so exiting and it is not possible to make them as this one is. Story needs a slower parts for getting to know the characters and different plots, and there is plenty of them in this series. Looking forward to see next episodes... And off course Thomas Jane as Joe Miller.

You thought the end to episode 2.4 was amazing? You haven't seen anything yet. This episode deals with what happens next, and is utterly utterly gripping television all the way. People have to come up with daring plans. People have to set aside distrust and try and work together. Politicians argue. Ordinary people do incredibly brave things. It will keep you gripped all the way. It never forgets the characters at the heart of it. And thus manages a very powerful ending that has the emotional impact to stay with you after. Brilliant tv.

Beautiful

Warning: Spoilers
The Expanse quickly became one of my favourite sci-fi shows when I binge-watched the first season last year.

It's a strange feeling, having a story end in the middle of a season. Not many shows do this anymore. In this case it works in the show's favour because this story has lasted ever since the first episode of the last season. It doesn't feel like anything has been rushed or been dragged out for too long, the full story has been told and the ending is beautiful.

The mystery behind Julie Mao's disappearance and Joe Miller's quest to uncover the truth has been interesting and exciting to follow. Miller is my favourite character and as much as I hate to see him go (unless they bring him back somehow) it was still a fitting end to that storyline. Of all the possibilities to kill his character that was probably the best, dying as a hero.

Because the last episode was very CGI-heavy it came as no surprise that we barely saw any scenes of outer space or ships in this episode. However, the CGI-scenes that were in this episode were still very good. The scene where Miller found Julie's infected body looked really good as well as the final scene when Eros hit Venus.

I'm curious to see what happens next. Is that the end of the protomolecule? Or did Julie's father keep another sample of it somewhere on some space station? A man like that would probably have a back-up plan or other science experiments. Then there's still the conflict between Earth, Mars and the OPA which I think will be in the focus in the upcoming episodes. It's going to be interesting to see what new story will be introduced and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope it will be just as good as this story was.

It's good but...
boigonh9 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, I know this is based on a book so the story existed. And the execution was well done.

But.

The ending is like incel fantasy gone wild. We belong together? She's never even met him. He's been basically stalking her the whole time and he's the only other person there. What if she hated him? So naked fantasy alien waiting for him with no other options and no place to go.

It was pretty to look at. But really kind of a gross idea.

Incredible.

The expanse has good episodes. So far no weak or bad.

This episode elevated The Expanse to new heights and new directions. You can put this episode right next to Ozymandias, Battle Of The Bastards and such. It's great to see how different series reach episodes like these.

The greatest episode in a Sci-Fi show, is one that is the most human.

What a twist.

Warning: Spoilers
I haven't written many reviews in my almost 19 years on IMDb but this episode is worth a little review. This is by far the best TV I've seen in years. I'm a huge GoT and Vikings fan so I'm not a stranger to emotional, shocking endings but by god the makers did it so well in this episode. The build up to the final scene was steady but you could physically feel the tension escalating. The music, the cinematography and the script were incredibly well done. And that last seen... I had to repeat it a few times because I would just break down each time. This is TV at its best. A huge congratulations to the producers. You raised the bar to all TV makers.

Be warned, spoiler....

A perfect blend of creating a touch of AI by tweaked particle substanced connected to a humans subconsiusness growing like a virus. Not aware of its own demise. A fine good episode, would alsow be a good ending. Whats next to come is interesting. Since they came upp with such a good story so far, ill optimistic.

seeds of matrix, dark city, they live, 13th floor, sphere, if u know em it means its volatile mix of art. A good night story if u want, but it sticks and never fades. This episode is a echo of the mystery of the unknown.

This is the best episode of The Expanse that I watched. Absolutely amazing, the suspense, the end , everything... and of course after seeing Thomas Jane as Joe Miller act like an idiot during all the show, finally he gets the redemption he deserves..... of course his acting is great.

Otherworldly

No pun intended. I won't go into detail, but what we have here is the production of a new life form, with rules we are just getting to know. Like any life form, this one is going to find ways to avoid destruction. It will be interesting to see what is next because this was superb. We also see what the selfish earthers are truly made of.

Who Infected Who
bluezed200326 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
After thinking about this episode for a few days I had a notion that perhaps the proto-molecule isn't malevolent and that Julie might have infected it through her contact. This might be why Eros was heading to Earth; because Julie was in control of it (but in a dream) and simply wanted to go home. Any thoughts?

Not sure where the series is heading next but I am going with it!

by far the best of the best
wizo-2294418 December 2021
Writing this after episode two of season 6, and after being on the edge of my seat for the entire time. The Expanse is by far the best scifi saga airing these last years. I should add that should include all the scifi motion pictures as well, everything is left in the dust by this masterpiece. There are no technobabbles and everything is extremely realistic, and none the less the action scenes have a gripping tension and a visual impact other series can only dream of regardless of their budget. Stellar acting, a great premise (the books are top notch), description of martian and belters is top notch sociological scifi in the vein of the best Asimov, if you like science fiction and you never saw this you're doing yourself a big disservice, but you're also damn lucky with 6 season of pure gold awaiting for you.

Warning: Spoilers
This is my 4th re-watch of the series and each time I watch it gets better and better. I hadn't noticed the depth of the passion between Miller and Julie Mao. Truly adds another layer of mystery to the proto molecule.

Cheesy adolescent slush
galladiel17 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was terrible! I hardly made it to the end. I was full of disbelief at the unimaginative script more suited for 12 year old girls. The fact that Julie survived, retained her personality after a certain death was mindbogglingly banal! I was waiting for some kind of a twist, anything that would make the story more than the slush that it was. Miller, the policeman finally had his closure at the expense of the storyline that was sickeningly primitive and oversentimental. For the second half of the episode the crew basically stood around doing nothing, with Naomi talking to Miller in a detached almost unemotional way. Waste of time!

Where the crumbs lead
BenZard15 May 2021
Did not expect an episode mid season to be the final destination, that one episode to which everything lead. Not surprised when you learn it corresponds to the end of the first book.

Without spoilers, I can only say that this episode is a masterpiece. Suddenly so many little things you had not seen come to mind, small details that you thought were meaningless or dismissed are revived, from the planets or moons names, apart from the obvious Mars, a new sense arise.
