Sex & Nudity

  • Very mild, one scene shows a character in the bath, he walks out naked (nothing visible) and his maid sees him, looks down, and tells him "Put that sorry thing (his penis) away". Other then that the nudity is only slight amounts of cleavage shown by some female characters.
  • A young woman tells a teen boy to lick her foot at one point (not really sexual)
  • A possible sexual relationship between a master and a maid whom he took in as a teenager (She says something like, "My body has been yours since the day I met you.")
  • One female antagonist wears a very revealing outfit.
  • The main character is seen completely naked in a visualization of his mind a few times, however, he is mostly seen from the stomach up and nudity is never shown. At one point his full body can be seen, but his groin is obscured by shadow and nothing explicit can be seen.
  • At one point, a female character allows a male character to rest on her lap. The scene is very wholesome and sad, nothing inappropriate happens.

Violence & Gore

  • The show is overall violent but gets even more so in Episode 14 and beyond. During the Truth of Zero arc that deals with a murderous cult, people are shown being cut into pieces, a child getting her eyes gouged out (only the aftermath is seen), and much more. Though the most brutal part is where a character is held up by invisible hands and slowly has her limbs and neck twisted as they were still alive. In another episode, the main character gets his entire body frozen solid and his head knocked off. (not very graphic) Dead bodies can be seen of some villagers.
  • A teen boy dies in several, often brutal ways. Such as getting stabbed, getting sliced open, decapitated, freezing to death, and getting his head smashed.
  • A teen boy has his head hit against a wall, causing blood to go into his eye.
  • The uncut version is very violent but the censored version is much more tame. Most actual deaths are shown OFFSCREEN.
  • In this anime there are a lot of death scenes, where blood is completely shown, sometimes mentioning, but not showing, organs.
  • A character is tortured and then left in a mess, with both arms and legs mangled and broken.
  • A young woman gets her left arm hacked off. (not showing wounds)
  • A teen boy commits suicide by stabbing his neck with a knife
  • The show is extremely gruesome, with many deaths that include dismemberment.
  • A teen boy is disemboweled and you can get a view of his spilled intestine from first person perspective. He is shown making gurgling sounds in agony and dies thereafter.
  • A severed hand of a supporting character is shown, shocking the MC. Season 2 part 1 is more violent compared to season 1
  • Strong animated fantasy violence. This is a very violent show. The main character is killed many times in increasingly brutal ways. Such as being gutted (his guts are not shown, but mentioned), being beaten by a mace, losing his arm and being crushed. (Uncensored and Director's Cut version shows his eye rolling through blood), committing suicide by jumping off a cliff (Impact heard but not seen).

Profanity

  • Language is moderate, occasional use of Shit, common usage of Damn and Hell and Bastard, and occasional use of Bitch.
  • In some subbed versions, multiple uses of the word Fuck in one episode, when the main character shouts them at a man furiously.
  • Language varies depending on the cut (TV vs DVD release)
  • Mild coarse language

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • In the Memory Snow OVA, somewhere near the end some of the characters get drunk.
  • Very mild

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is not a feel good show, it focuses on the main character's fall into insanity as he cannot die. He is seen killed in increasingly sad and brutal ways. Even suicide out of sheer loss. A character is even seen tortured in a brutal way and dies in the MC's arms. You can even in one episode see the burned and mutilated bodies of countless innocents leaving the MC in shock. In his deepest depression he is nearly catatonic.
  • Terrifying and gory. Re:Zero is a show about suffering and pain. Despite its colorful and seemingly lighthearted beginning, it is truly following the repeated and brutal deaths. Depressing and suffering are regulars at this restaurant.
  • Strong intense themes

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Maid character strips naked to turn into a beast, only slight nudity is shown but there isn't much to see.
  • Season 2: Emilia is seen naked frozen in ice. Nothing too severe
  • Season 2 part 2: One chaste kissing scene in one episode between two characters and a passionate kiss in another episode by other two different characters.
  • Two characters bite eachothers' necks and crawl on top of each-other. Camera shots depict sexual-looking poses, though the scene is short and not inherently sexual.
  • Pandora wears a revealing thin cloth and is implied to not wear anything underneath, occasionally showing her legs and buttocks. Her genitals are conveniently covered by objects or other characters.

Violence & Gore

  • The main character is eaten alive by killer bunnies and you can see them crawl around inside him. This is probably one of the most disturbing scenes in the series. It happens again but he lives. (Episode-specific identifiers deleted.)

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are some intense character deaths.
  • Mother Fortuna is accidentaly killed by Petelguese. Very violent and disturbing
  • A teen boy gets possessed by a villain and begs two people to kill him. This scene can make some viewers emotional. Then one of those two persons paralyses him and other kills him with a sword. The death occurs off-screen but is one of the saddest death in the anime.
