Simply Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!
shujayk4 September 2017
MEIN PUNJAB NAHIN JAON GEE…………. (8.0/10)

is not one of those usual romantic films. The clash of cultures, the widening gap between parents and kids, MPNJG tackles it all. At the same time, it evokes some serious feelings at vital points in the story. The movie from its first scene till end is a sure cinematic beauty , as for as camera work is concerned. A top notch cinematography captures a outclass beauty of PUNJAB. Story on the front look seems to be a light comedy but underneath the skin of comics some real story unfolds explaining some very serious issue of our culture in a light but also in a serious manner. The story is about HS and MH, where HS is a typical feudal lord of Punjab while MH , cousin is a western oriented girl comes from London after completing her study. Two distinct cultures having their own flavors come together with a twist. Entry of Wasay in the movie makes story interesting . Apart of great camera work , dialogues also stands out, some serious lines along with some taunting comics really creates a nice combo for any movie goer. After JPNA , Humayun Saeed along with the director Nadeem Baig has done another marvelous job. Both of them needs a pat on their backs. Good music , nice story and a serious message definitely makes MPNJG one of the finest movies from south Asia. From acting everyone delivers a great performance. HS does really proves his acting skills , MH well really a great actor she is, Hurwa Hoccane also plays her role very well, Azfar Rehman (Wasay ) is also very decent, all the supporting cast are simply brilliant. Ahmed Ali Butt I think was underutilized. Some great nice dialogues, a serious underpinning message wrapped in a comedy makes MPNJG definitely highly recommended movie to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go and watch this movie to HELP our cinema!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too Much Hype Lead to Disappointment
sajjadhussain-433877 September 2017
Acting is Superb as Legendary Pakistani Actors have been chosen for the Film (8/10). Screen Play and Background Places are fascinating and attractive(9/10).Good camera work (7/10). Music is Good (6.5/10) but the choreography and dance are poor (5/10) apart from one last rocking song (7.5/10).

A story is a backbone of the movie. Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is one of the best and few writers I like. However, the story of the movie is a sheer disappointment for an extraordinary writer (4/10). The story looks haphazard and without logic and flow.

Too many comedy actors but dialogues are not meeting the comedy standards of Legends like Sohail Ahmed, Saba Qamar, Waseem Abbas, Behroz Sabazwari, and Ahmed Ali But (4/10). I think the writer could take help from these legends to improve the comic sense of the movie.

The writer opened many fronts but fails to fill the logic and Gap. For example, following questions needs an explanation. 1. What is Durdana's end result? 2. What did become of Dairy Farm? 3. Why the Ch. Fawad likes to be beaten by Waseh? 4. Why Amal agree to reconcile at the end?

Overall, Punjab Nahin Jaongi is an average movie (55~60/100)

A must watch
smasghar5 September 2017
I was a little hesitant taking my entire family to watch this movie but the movie came as a total surprise full of comedy, entertainment and delivered some really strong messages. Loved the dresses and songs in the movie. Each and every character justified their role. Dialogue delivery was astounding. I would definitely recommend to all movie lovers to go and watch this delight in cinemas.

An Above Average Movie with Strong Dialogues
kamranzafar_ch-251-43855518 September 2017
This movie is really a treat for cinema loving families. The dialogues are very strong. But the script of the movie is very weak. All the emphasis is on the character Fawad Khagga which is written very brilliantly. I believe same hard work was required to write the other characters, esp. some characters like parents of leading actor and actress are just a show piece. Though with very good cinematography, movie lacks in clarity and is not technically very strong esp. when you perform a song in one voice on two different characters. But one thing is for sure, you leave the cinema with broad smile on your face and with some good dialogues like "help me durdana", "good question" in your mind

Depiction of Social Issues with Elitist Humor
alihaider-4102015 September 2017
Punjab Nahi Jaungi (PNJ) one of the best movies ever produced in the history of Pakistan's Film Industry. The movie is not only a source of fun and pleasure but also an indicator to social problems like alcohol consumption, post marital relationships, gender equality and divorce. Apart from this, the character of Bebo Gi, perfectly promotes support for love, for language and for nationalism. However, Mehtab Khagga, the elder of the family, grandfather of Fawad Khagga, is encouraging women empowerment in the country, for a better Pakistan.

With humor and love, PNJ brings to limelight the social issues and shows inevitability to eradicate social evils.

Lots of Laughs and Colour, Amazing Songs, but a Cliché Storyline
bibi-9492011 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was a HUGE fan of Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (which I think is the best Lollywood film yet, and probably the funniest desi movie I have seen). So, I was expecting a lot from this film.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special or amazing. The movie started off interesting, and was pretty good until the intermission. After that it seemed to drag on quite a lot!

I liked how they showed her slowly progressing as a career women after marriage but I wish that could have been emphasized more. The way they showed the husband abruptly watching a movie with his cousin and then dancing in the rain with her, was kind of sudden and introduced in an abrupt way. It should have been a smoother transition of him getting bored, calling her up, and then a series of meetings. I think Lollywood generally needs to work on better scene transitions and direction!

I also think the end part where he invites everyone for the divorce was kind of cheesy and lame - I appreciated the lesson learned in that scene (not to ask why people get separated), but I feel that they could have made this entire part much better or just taken it out. Perhaps they should have shown her just leave him in the end, and just go back to London without any guy by her side. Maybe that would have been a powerful and less filmy/ cliché ending. And the part where the actress transfers money for the contractor honestly made it seem for a second that I was watching a commercial for that bank. Advertising needs to be more subtle!

That being said, the songs were fantastic, there was lots of colour, and some great laughs. Mehwish Hayat did great acting and so did Bebo. And generally, myself and the audience seemed to enjoy the movie.

Decent progress, but could be better!

Awesome movie. House full show
saifullahshafiq-416253 September 2017
One of the best movies coming out of the Pakistani cinema! Totally unexpected. I knew the film would fare well but this kind of response was unexpected. I watched it in Virginia and the show was sold out. Amazing! Excellent story by Khalil ur Rahman and fantastic dialogues! Music could have been better. It was not bad but not something you would listen to over and over again. Very funny movie! Good acting, nice costumes, amazing cinematography. Loved the movie and highly recommend it. I am sure it will surge to new heights and break records. Kudos to humayun, baig and qamar.

Terrible Movie. Infidelity and Physical Abuse is OK according to the movie.
itsmyworld286 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was painful to watch from the start. By the intermission, the main characters get married - and I thought that maybe there is more upside to the movie. There is not.

1. Women are materialistic. Amal (Mehwish Hayat) decides to marry her cousin just because he offers to name his wealth and property in her name. She forgets all her previous arguments of difference in culture, language, and the issues she has with feudal landlords. Naming family property in her name is the only way to show "love" apparently. She forgets her long time boyfriend, and fights with him as he refuses to name her London Apt in her name. Seriously? If I didn't grow up with family money, and worked all my life to buy property in London, why would I name it for my fiancée? And good thing he didn't!

2. Asking for divorce on the basis of husband slapping his wife or husband cheating on his wife makes the wife in the wrong. The guy refuses to divorce the girl, and beats her friends up at a party when she refuses to go with him. Talk about abuse and intimidation. Midway, the issue of him slapping her just disappears. As if it just isn't a big deal. This is so disrespectful to women who suffer abuse all the time - in the cycle of abuse, men always apologize, but they always do it again. This is the cycle of abuse that you can read up anywhere. But in this movie, if the guy apologizes, it's completely OK.

3. Women working lead to men cheating. Because... you know they don't spend time at home (sarcasm intended).

Definitely " MOVIE OF THE YEAR 2017 "
amir_lives1 September 2017
Just returned from Cinema and enjoyed from beginning to end. Huge loud of Applause for Nadeem Beyg and the whole team. Finely crafted Jokes throughout the movie. Despite the fact that the role of a Punjabi guy was quite challenging but as usual Humayun Saeed's acting was superb. You will get to see Dance performances which are rare in Lollywood movies. If you liked "Jawani Phir Nahi Aani" then "Punjab Nahi Jaungi" is definitely a Must Watch.

A very good film
ahmedomer-9855715 January 2019
Hmm. Definitely a very good movie. I would give this movie a 7.9/10. It got my interest right from the beginning. The ending was very good tho. Overall despite its flaws, the goods of the movie overweigh the bads. The VISUALS were amazing. That is actually what kept me hooked. Coming to the negatives, sometimes, the reasons behind the issues between bride and groom feel a bit overstretched or should I say, not properly given exposition. What I did not like the most is the blaming of and the way CHAUDHRY are represented is not good. In reality, they are not like this. If the same went for let's say May Karachi Nahi Jaon Gi and they explicitly mentioned in the movie about MAHAJAR dada ji, papa ji, and their son. It would feel a bit racial. Hence I would say that when making movies like these, the families or especially there names should be fictional. And that's all, looking forward to The legend of Maula Jut now more than ever XD.

Besides Cinematography and Soundtrack, this movie has nothing going for itself!
mishii9518 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILERS* - Punjab Nahi Jahungi Out of the several wrong messages, here were a few that were outstanding to me.

1: After Mehwish Hayyat breaks up with her boyfriend from London, she agrees to get married to Humayun Saeed right away. You need time to yourself. Figure yourself out. Don't jump into another relationship because you're heartbroken, that is just asking for trouble

2: Mehwish Hayyat had been shown to have done a degree in Economics from London. She put her degree to use by helping Humayun Saeed's family with their Dairy Business. Instead of depicting this as her being a smart and independent wife... it was shown as something harmful to your marriage. I understand one should be smart about balancing their career and marriage... but in this movie, TO ME, it just felt like Humayun Saeed was dying to have babies and was not able to acknowledge or appreciate the hard work she put in HIS family's business. I also felt like during some scenes his expressions conveyed an ego complex.

3: "Help me Durdana" o m g. This scene was ridiculous. Your wife is out there slaying the world, so your little attention seeking self decides to try to cheat? ON TOP OF THAT WHEN YOUR WIFE FINDS OUT AND DOESN'T ACCEPT YOUR APOLOGY, YOU SLAP HER?! YOU SLAPPPPPP HER. BECAUSE SHE CHALLENGES YOU? BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T ACCEPT YOUR APOLOGY WHAT WHAT WHAT WHATTTTKJSDFKLJDFKLAJ.

4: Why is there always so much force by the male lead? Why are at times the female lead shown as having no back bone?! Why can't they be shown as being stern on their no?! She doesn't want you. She doesn't want to get back with you.

5: When Humayun Saeed is on the phone with Urwa Hocane and he asks "If i slapped you, would you leave me," Her reply "no I would say once more!" THERE ARE 6 YEAR OLDS IN THE THEATRE WATCHING THIS MOVIE. WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING THEM? ABUSE IN LOVE IS OKAY?!

6: Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayyat are still in a marriage but she moves back to Karachi. She decides it would be healthy to rekindle old feelings with her ex, uses him to make Humayun Saeed jealous. Immaturity at its finest. Oh and did I mention her plan about wanting to marry her ex after her divorce?! My brain could not handle this.

7: LASTLY, Humayun Saeed sheds a few tears, apologizes a couple time, and she accepts him back. Because you know... in love abuse, infidelity, manipulation is completely acceptable !

Not a film but an event. It will be a crime to miss it.
kshehzad21 September 2017
There are few films which had power to change the decision of critics and new Pakistani blockbuster Punjab Nahi Jaungi (PNJ) belongs to same category. As a film reviewer and critic I had relinquished the idea of reviewing every film I watch but my faith in writings of Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar forced me to change my decision. He first stumped me as writer with TV serial "Sadqay Tumharay" and this time he completely bamboozled me with water tight script of film PNJ. By and large Khalil-Ur-Rehman is one of the most noteworthy writers of our era who are not less than an asset for Pakistani film & TV industry. His writings with uncanny glimpses of his own life time experiences, carries the essence of soil and culture our overall Pakistani society actually thrives upon and this is the reason his work seems believable to the great extent. Nadeem Beyg the director whom my wife mistaken as film star Nadeem Baig is one few good things which happened in Pakistani film industry lately. He started his innings with ground breaking TV serials like Dolly Ki Ayegi Baraat and Pyaray Fazal and now he has scored his second double century with PNJ after giving massive hit like Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA) couple of years ago. He is raising his stature as an accomplished film director with every film. His ability of extracting remarkable performances wrapped in heavy dialogues and humorous punch liners is one of the kind and singles him out as a director who keeps his viewers engaged in every scene of the film. His ostentatious vision is an element which was missing before but now alleviates Pakistani film industry to another level. There is always a room for improvement but he has raised viewers expectations substantially which does not allow him to fall back. His next directorial venture must be grandeur and visually majestic. Humayun Saeed as a flamboyant feudal grandson Fawad Khagga is as lovable as one can think of. As a film critic I was not a big fan of Humayun Saeed's acting prowess but JPNA changed my opinion and his role as Fawad Khagga in PNJ has increased my confidence on him as the most bankable superstar of Pakistani film industry today. As a typical Punjabi feudal son who loves to use English sentences in hardcore Punjabi accent is nothing but an adorable feature of PNJ. Every time when he responds to any query with "Good Question, Very Good Question..." we hear giggles in cinema hall. His episode of "Help Me Durdana" has already become catchphrase of the year. Dazzling Mehwish Hayat dazzles her viewers again with her intense portrayal of UK returned Amal who has been brought up according to modern standards of the time and the same time trained to carry burden of traditional family values in sophisticated way. Though she does not have any leverage of funny punch liners but she mesmerizes viewers with her beauty in every frame. Casting Suhail Ahmed as Mehtab Khagga the feudal lord and grandfather of Humayun Saeed is a master stroke. We cannot imagine anyone else to play the role of funny but lovable Mehtab Khagga. It seems this role was specifically written for him. PNJ is debut film for seasoned TV actress Naveed Shahzad. The kind of subtle, mature and restrained performance she has given as Beebojee, no doubt she will be among the top contenders to win best supporting actress award next year. Urwa Hocane is amazing as manipulative but naive Durdana. Ahmad Ali Butt who charmed us in JPNA does not have much screen time in PNJ but whenever he appears he spreads same persona which we used to experience in times of Rafi Khawar aka Nanna. Other actors like Waseem Abbas, Saba Waseem and Behroz Sabzwari have done satisfactory job. Much credit to be given to cinematographer of PNJ who has done splendid job and made every scene of the film an eye candy. Likewise team of Sahir Ali Bagga, Meesha Shafi, Sheeraz Uppal and Farhan Saeed has done remarkable job in music department by giving melodious numbers of the year. On the whole, Punjab Nahi Jaungi is not a film but an EVENT of the year and it will be crime to miss it. PNJ has already claimed the title of BLOCK BUSTER in Pakistan and outshines Indian films like Baadshaho and A Gentleman in UK and European markets. The kind of response PNJ is receiving all over it will not be an exaggeration to claim that Punjab Nahi Jaungi (PNJ) would have earned INR 200Crores easily if it would have been released in India. Indian distributors this is your miss.

Help me Durdana... Few dialogs you will remember.
shafiqkhi1 August 2018
A mix of comedy and romance with spectacular cinematography. Few good dialog here and there but don't expect too much because Khalilur Rehman was absent IMO. Lead actors are doing well. An average but atleast 2 times watchable.

Warning: Spoilers
Overall the movie was very good. I am very happy to see Pakistani industry making movies like this. Very good comedy and romantic story-line. Highly recommended to watch to support Pakistani film industry. If we compare it to the most of the Bollywood movies, I would say that it is better than most of the recent Bollywood movies but yeah I admit the story gives you a feel of typical Indian script. All the characters were perfectly acted upon specially the lead roles.

A Good One But Unrealistic and Overrated
m-8296229 March 2019
The scene after the comic "Help Me Durdana" where Mehwish Hayat with her dialogue delivery and top notch acting outshines everyone is the only scene which stands out for a film which everyone was bragging about but Punjab Nahi Jaungi comes with a somewhat already seen story but the same cannot be said for its dialogues where Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar once again redefines himself that he probably is one of the best drama writers but his craft is weak when it comes to unrealistic sequences and really illogical ending.

When it comes to acting you cannot decide who stands out in the film because each and every actor has given his/her full to their characters. Mehwish Hayat simply outhines but the star is Urwa...

70 Murrabbay+1200 bhainsain+Khagga palace=Brilliance
aurangzab200527 February 2019
The movie was good, actually way more better then what i expected from the trailer and the reviews. With certain flaws but still the movie keeps you glued to the chairs and entertains you.

Mehwish stole the show i mean she actually seem so real with ups and downs of the story. The stiffness, firmness of her character, how provocative a girl can be and truely a stunning beauty is she, is everything the character asked for. Hamayun was good but he actually didnt adopted the character of a punjabi feudal, overall he was average. Remaining whole cast Ahmed Ali butt, Mawra hocane, they all were good but Sohail ahmed was far more better then even the veteran actors like Saba or Waseem. Movie starts with a good pace from the villages of punjab, continues its journey with a few speed humps of a few disputes but again the stride continues; embedded with emotions, betrayel and certain comedy punches. Unpredictablilty was the core element of the movie i guess, because at certain points the movie was so smooth, it seemed like next thing will be the credits but then again a strike and the movie takes you to another turn.

What i didnt liked about the movie was the lenght of the movie was more then it needed. Culture of Punjab was literally ignored and music could habe been better.

As our industry rose from the ashes, highly eecommended to everyone, please watch and support.

Best Pakistani movie ever.
AVeryLollywoodPerson18 June 2018
Acting by Mehwish Hayat and Humayun Saeed was amazing. However, Mehwish Hayat as Amal Dastor steals the show and is perfect in her role. Acting by other cast members was up to the mark as well. Storyline and direction is excellent. Pakistani movies like Punjab Nahi Jaungi can easily give tough competition to Bollywood movies in overseas markets. It surely raises the bar for Pakistani cinema. Have watched this movie several times now. Deserves 10/10.

A Cool Breeze for the revival of Pakistani Cinema
fallenmuse4 September 2017
when you have to put a person on long ailment back on his feet you have to treat him with extra care, feed him mildly, concerning not to harshly expose him to reality. This is what director Nadeem Bayg did with this flick.Issues like cross cultural marriages , domestic violence, women empowerment and family politics are addressed in a very basic and entertaining manner to keep the Pakistani audiences not to be overdosed with the issues brought forwarded. I must say MPNJG is a great teamwork from writer to director to producers and the creative and technical people especially actors...all tried well to give their best and succeeded to a good extent. The sets locations and costumes are well worked upon, the production value looks like minted for the big screen and shows well off. Naveed Shahzad and sohail Ahmed's s characters of a Pakistani buzurgs reminds us of our buzurgs which we have never experienced in Bollywood movies and this gives us a moment of solace and "apnapan" (this is why we all love watching P movies of low quality even). Humayun and Mehwish perfect choice for hero and heroine and Mawra s acting skills reminds us of the vamp in 50 s which is a success for a negative roll. But the showstopper is Qamar sahib s dialogues and story pattern. He is a true big screen writer and knows how to do his job well. Ahmed Butt is cute and his comic timings are good, Behroz Sabzwari and Safina aapa were like the mention of Bank Alfalah and Mcdonalds in the movie :). Overall a must watch this festive season not just because Its an efforts that must be appreciated but its a paisa wasool kinda movie ...

Awful movie of the YEAR!
kmuneeb6 September 2017
So I watched Punjab Nahi Jaungi last night at AMC Theatres-Empire 25 I'm going to criticize it hard -- what a terrible movie! Cheesy dialogue and shaky plot points, and the screenplay had a lot of issues of pacing. It was very predictable. It seemed to me like the writing had been rushed. I have seen terrible plots saved by great directors but this wasn't one of them. Nadeem Beyg should reconsider learning some direction skills or attend any workshops or webinars offered worldwide.

I admit, there were some funny punches and relatable moments of humor and the punchline "Help me, Durdana" was very good. Some hidden sexual tension was done subtly. However, the acting was okay but not top notch. Hummayon Saeed, on the other hand, acted well! Makeup was awful. Choreography was utterly clumsy.

And don't even get me started on editing, it was abruptly cut. Again, no sense of pacing and rhythm at all! A film should have cinematic value but this film failed to provide the cinematic product. Complete replica of some cheeky Bollywood movies.

A Film that feels like a 'Drama'
thedangerouskaka1 July 2018
Didn't have very high expectations but still it felt below par a little.A good story bundled with poorly executed dialogues and jokes and a less than realistic portrayal of Punjab and its culture with a non Punjabi lead actor and really cosmetic acting made it all into a 2 and a half hour time pass. I will not call it a total waste of time but to support Pakistani cinema it can be given a thought but the film-makers should also give thought to making films that are actual films not prolonged TV serials. Go ahead give it try for sake of our industry.
