A quiet treat

When I screened About a Donkey for inclusion in our festival I thought is was one of the nicest independent films of the year. A dramedy about a family with all the same psychosis you probably see in your own, and how their Dad's unaccountable decision to bring home a donkey (of all things) shakes them out of their ruts. The repartee amoungst the siblings is smart but does not feel contrived. You can feel the underlying affection in every exhibit of wit. These are all recognizably humans, making it up as they go along, and finding love that has gone missing.

A heartwarming family film
FilmFanatic3529 April 2020
I had the pleasure of watching this at a film festival a while back, and I absolutely enjoyed it. A feel-good story about family -- plus, it has a donkey in it, so how can you not like that?! It was a unique story that I hadn't heard before, and I came away with a smile.

Shut it off after 22 minutes
dukestwinpack17 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Within the first 22 minutes the mother tries to shoot the donkey in the face with a nerf-type gun and then there is a conversation about a cat that was drowned and it's set up to be somewhat funny rather than what it really would be -- disgusting, horrific and cruel.

None of the characters, save the donkey, have demonstrated any likeability. Not wasting any more of my time.

A witty film with a message of kindness

About a Donkey is also about: Depression, Family, Kindness and the ebb and flow of all three. The dialogue is hilarious. The situation is also hilarious but within that is a message of hope. It's a great film!

Quirky and Charming

About a Donkey is a charming quirky film about a family that feels both familiar and not like the same families we've seen in these kinds of films before. Largely a disconnected and fairly self-absorbed group, they are ultimately loving and care for one another deeply. About a Donkey is both that and about the connections between us.

Up-lifting and Fun!

About A Donkey is a little movie with a lot of heart. The diversity of the characters adds flavor to a script that authentically depicts family relationships and life-stage issues. You may see yourself, your siblings, or other family members in the characters, and you'll find yourself routing for every one of them to overcome their challenges. Be prepared for witty dialog and amusing situations. In addition to the inevitable laughs, you might want a tissue handy. My eyes were moist with happy tears.

A film of humour, heart and wit
Viktoria-Isabella6 April 2019
This film has a lot of heart, wit and humour. You really begin to feel for these characters and this donkey. I found myself shockingly quite invested and was sad when it ended. Christina has done a briliant job with her direction. Everything was concise, intentional and had a great pace to it.

Everyone needs a donkey

Heartfelt and funny, this movie engages the audience to reflect on societal issues and the pivotal role family and friendships play.

A beautifully told story, the characters weave in and out seamlessly as we explore their journeys and see how an individuals journey is never truly ventured alone.

Lots of laughs and ultimately a feel-food film. This is a must-see!
