Legion of Doom is the nemesis a superhero team needs
imakk20011 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Legion of Doom's team dynamics/development got a boost this ep, fleshing them out, and made even more interesting if that's possible. We finally see why the writers had Merlyn on the team, and the come-together journey he and Darkh took was fun AND believable. Same with RF forced to reveal his motivation. Letscher's fine balance between expressing fear without looking weak was PERFECT.

Just as well plot A was LoD, because plot B of LoT trying to catch them/figure what they're up to was kind of boring, though necessary. Still, I really enjoyed Jax being the voice of reason again, this week to Martin. Props to the actress/costume dept., they manage to make Lily = time aberration palpable. And Heatwave still getting the best lines, hope they never change his don't care about anyone's delicate feefees/telling it like it is personality.

The segue from RF's LoT are idiots to Heatwave's idiots line just about sum up this wonderful ep: fun! Score: 8.5

The Legion
ThomasDrufke2 February 2017
For as much as this season has pumped up the 'Legion of Doom', the focus has yet to be on them. Up until this point, there has been no clear reason why these 3 guys (and potentially 4 with Captain Cold) are together. Luckily, this episode answered most of those questions, and then some.

The Legends took a backseat to the Legion this week as the team of villains attempted to torture information out of Rip Hunter, or Phil as he calls himself. Ironically, this provided for much of the episode's comedic relief and I liked seeing that side of Merlyn, Darhk, and Thawne. The dialogue felt a little corny at times, even veering into James Bond henchman level material, but it's not like I take this show all that seriously anyway.

The episode did its best to provide a reason for Reverse Flash randomly disappearing from scenes without explanation. It turns out, good old Black Racer Flash was on his tail at all times. That was quite the pleasant surprise, I just hope we don't get an unnecessary cameo from Teddy Sears, who never seemed to find his groove in this universe. So yes, I'm very glad that the explanation was provided for Thawne's disappearances, but I feel like it kind of took away from the intimidation that he brought to the table. In fact, I have no doubt that everyone will make it out alive this season and the Legion be easily put to rest. But that could change once we finally see the Legion working together instead of bickering.

The other major plot point came from Stein as he needed help from his highly skilled daughter all while breaking the news of her aberration. It was only a matter of time and figures it would be Mick to 'accidentally' break the news. Even if the Legends are just a "bunch of idiots", it was nice to see some grounded and heartfelt material from one of them. Overall, it was another enjoyable week of Legends led by fun, even if sometimes goofy, scenes from the Legion.

+Great look into the Legion's dynamic

+Thawne reveal

+Stein & his daughter

Legion of Doom

I, very much, enjoy the "legion of doom" they own this episode, and are very entertaining. this season is already more interesting than the last one mainly because of the villains, I enjoy the non-stop bickering between Malcom and Damien, they have a great chemistry. And we finally got some backstory of the Speedster. And also how Malcom was recruited. The legends were sidelined, but there was a little subplot about Stein's daughter which played out nicely at the end. Rory is hilarious!

Tense episode in many aspects

Warning: Spoilers
Rip Hunter is still in grave danger. And he still doesn't accept the fact he is not Phil, but Rip. Mr.Hunter is tortured by a trio called by names Eobard Thawne, Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Dahrk. And these three are thinking of the most painful ways of torture possible. Am personally glad, that the director decided not to give a closeup on the most brutal torture, that Mr.Hunter had to endure! On the Waverider, the team of Legends is trying to work out, how to get Rip back to them. Martin Stein decides to call for his daughter Lily, who apparently doesn't know, that she is the time aberration ( the two of them meet Jefferson Jackson in the coffee store first, which apparently is not a good idea as for the matters of the privacy). Though this is still a secret, Mick Rory spoils it all by accidentally telling her the truth and Lily goes in search for her father. A desperate Martin tries to enlighten her, but she does not believe him. By the way, once again great acting by both Victor Garber ( who to my sheer shock looks much older now, yet his acting is still as excellent as ever) and Christina Brucato. A very torn-inside Martin then confides in Jax, telling him that he did not want to have a child, because of the fact, that he was afraid he would be the same father to the child as his father was to him ( here the question unfolds: was Martin Stein somehow abused by his father?).After this, Martin and Lily meet and have a talk, and the former explains that he is in fact a superhero. Lily chuckles and kisses her Dad,and apologizes that she would have to go back to work. The expression of Stein after she leaves, is more than emotional...

Plenty of questions arise again, we shall see up until the next episode! Best acting: Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne Franz Drameh as Jefferson Jackson Victor Garber as Martin Stein Christina Brucato as Lily Stein John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory

Once again the production team is content with having the characters act like total buffoons. The characters frequently contradict themselves, sometimes within the same sentence. What few instances there were of levity approaching fun or camp were grossly overshadowed by stupidity.
