Ahead of their CinemaCon presentation on Monday, Sony Pictures has debuted the first official poster for their upcoming slasher sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer and it teases the return of a familiar hook.

While we'll have to wait until this summer to find out who's wielding the hook, we do now that the movie will feature the return of both Jennifer Love Hewitt as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. as Ray Bronson. The duo starred together in the 1997 horror classic I Know What You Did Last Summer and its 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Canada’s actors are set for a new deal with the country’s producers.

Over the holiday period, actors union Actra reached a tentative agreement for a new Independent Production Agreement (Ipa) with the Canadian Media Producers Association (Cmpa) and the Association Québécoise de la Production Médiatique (Aqpm), which respectively handle English- and French-language content in the country.

Actra is asking its members to review and ratify the new agreement when the details become public. This will begin on Tuesday. January 14 at 12 p.m. Et / 9 a.m. Pt, and close a week later on January 21. A townhall webinar is being held on January 13 to discuss terms.

This comes after a period of bargaining and negotiations between the parties, with Actra saying in a short statement that talks have been “especially critical” given there are “so many major challenges facing our industry.” The Writers Guild of Canada struck a new agreement with the Cmpa last year,...

Kacey Musgraves stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night to perform “Arm’s Length,” a song that appeared on Deeper Well: Deeper Into the Well, the expanded edition of her acclaimed 2024 album Deeper Well.

Bathed in reverb and backed by her denim-donned five-piece band, Musgraves provides a gorgeous rendition of “Arm’s Length.” Despite such a warm arrangement, Musgraves sings of a relationship rendered cold and distant: “I gave you water/ But I couldn’t make you drink/ Keepin’ me just within reach/ Always holding me at arms length,” she sings as the band behind her swells. Billy Campbell began acting in the mid-1980s, landing his first significant television role on Dynasty in 1984. Campbell went on to costar as Detective Joey Indelli in Crime Story before appearing in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2, episode 4, "The Outrageous Okona." Campbell landed the leading role in Disney's The Rocketeer in 1991 and also portrayed a vampire hunter in Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992.

Billy Campbell continued to appear in popular films and television shows throughout the 1990s and beyond. From 1999 to 2002, Campbell starred alongside Sela Ward in the Emmy-winning Once and Again. The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot cast is coming together in a promising way. We just learned that Golden Globe Award nominee Billy Campbell has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. I wonder who he could be playing in the slasher.

Campbell joins a growing list of actors who have already been announced to be in the cast, such as Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was announced recently to have officially joined the cast, reprising his role of Ray Bronson from the original film and its 1998 sequel. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood are also in talks to return in their roles as Julie James and Karla Wilson.

Additionally, Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders is currently in discussions about joining the cast of the upcoming Sony movie. However, who she will be portraying in the film is unknown.

Caitlin Cronenberg, the daughter of horror master David Cronenberg, is making her own mark in the genre filmmaking space with Humane, a horror/thriller satire starring Jay Baruchel (This Is The End) and Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”) that forces an affluent family to make an unthinkable choice.

Humane will first be arriving in theaters courtesy of IFC Films on April 26, 2024. The film later comes home to Shudder on July 26.

Kacey Musgraves is back.

The Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter returns with her fifth studio album Deeper Well on March 15, beginning with the album’s title track out Thursday (February 8).

The album was co-produced by longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk and inspired by the energy of New York City’s Greenwich Village and its rich musical history, with the bulk of the record recorded at Electric Lady studios.

Exclusive: An exposé about institutionalized corruption in the Hare Krishna movement is being adapted into a feature doc by Sphere Media.

Sphere has acquired rights to non-fiction book Monkey on a Stick: Murder, Madness, which was a New York Times bestseller from 1988 that investigative journalists John Huber and Lindsey Gruson co-authored.

The adaptation will be for Canada’s Hollywood Suite for English-speaking Canada and directed by Jason Lapeyre. The book is billed as a “chilling exposé of institutionalised corruption.”

Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program has invested in the film, with assistance coming from the Roger’s Documentary Fund. UK-based Abacus Media Rights has distribution rights outside of Canada, with Hollywood Suite commissioning it for English-speaking Canada and a French-speaking Canadian deal very close to closing.

Munich-based Beta Film, one of Europe’s leading television companies, and seasoned executive Danny Goldman have joined forces to form London-based Omega Global Media, a distribution business focusing on a selection of high-end English-language TV series. The new entity’s first project is the Canadian crime series “Something Undone,” starring Billy Campbell (“Cardinal”) and Amanda Brugel (“The Handmaid’s Tale”).

The formation of Omega Global Media reflects the partners’ shared conviction that they can co-finance and distribute premium English-language dramas beyond the constraints of the conventional studio, network, and streaming models. The company will be headed by Goldman, a former Sony Pictures Television and Miramax executive, and managing director of Goldridge Media.

Over the course of his career, Goldman has had a leading role in the distribution of many iconic TV series, including “Breaking Bad,” “Damages” and “Seinfield.” Beta Film’s credits include “The Swarm,” “Hudson&Rex,” “Prof T.,” “Babylon Berlin” and “Gomorrah.

Earlier this week, an enterprising creator on TikTok named @garrettlee39 posted an earnest rendition of himself dancing to the 2014 single “Need 2” by indie band Pinegrove. A palpably moody cut from their album Everything So Far, the song, and dance, have spread across TikTok like wildfire. Garrett Lee’s original video has already racked up more than 5 million views, and there have been thousands of new videos replicating his dance posted to the site since. There are re-edits of a Soulja Boy music video set to the song, as well as clips of DJ Khaled dancing.

Last April, Sphere Media took the Canadian Screen Awards by storm with 22 awards for its scripted content, including a record 12 wins for the historical Black drama “The Porter” and seven for queer comedy “Sort Of.” It was a big night for Canada’s third-largest independent producer, and in particular for Jennifer Kawaja, Sphere’s president of scripted and feature films for English Canada.

Previously, Kawaja spent decades heading up Sienna Films with her business partner, Julia Sereny, helming several award-winning projects like “Cardinal,” “Trickster” and “One Dead Indian.” The duo sold the company to Kew Media Group in 2017 and in 2020, Montreal-based Datsit Sphere snatched it up when Kew was placed into receivership. Last year, Sphere restructured and rebranded under a single banner with the intention of streamlining content creation, production and distribution.

Jennica Harper and Nelu Handa are taking over showrunning duties on CBC’s “Run The Burbs” for the comedy’s third season. The show was renewed a week before the Season 2 finale in March for a planned winter 2024 broadcast.

Harper and Handa are long-time collaborators, having worked together for three seasons on the Bell Media series “Jann” starring Jann Arden. Harper served as showrunner on all three seasons of the series, along with the 2022 holiday special. The Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Award winner’s other credits include “Spencer Sisters,” “Skymed” and “Cardinal.”

Netflix has ordered Tall Pines, an eight-episode limited series from Mae Martin, Ryan Scott, Ben Farrell and his Objective Fiction and Sphere Media. Creed III has added another huge box office record to its earth-shattering opening weekend. The film is the third entry in the Creed franchise, which follows Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), the son of the character Apollo Creed from the Rocky franchise. Although Sylvester Stallone did not return to reprise his role as Rocky Balboa for a third time, the film - which is also Jordan's directorial debut - features the return of Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor and Florian Munteanu as Viktor Drago alongside franchise newcomer Jonathan Majors as Damian Anderson.

In fact, Cronenberg has now wrapped production on her feature directorial debut, with Humane being described in Deadline’s report as an “environment-themed thriller.”

In his first leading feature role, Drew Ray Tanner (“Riverdale”) will star in “Boot Camp,” a film adaptation of the hugely popular Wattpad story by Gina Musa of the same name.

The romantic comedy tells the body-empowerment story of notoriously unathletic Whitney Carmichael, played by Rachel Boudwin, who begins to fall for her off-limits personal trainer, Axel (Tanner), after signing up for an intense summer boot camp to reinvent herself. A deepening connection inspires her to let go of the others’ expectations and, instead, find the strength to embrace her true self.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios announced that production has wrapped on “Boot Camp” after filming began in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, earlier this month. Adapted from the Radio-Canada French-language drama created by Jean-François Asselin and Jacques Drolet and set in Montreal, Plan B is billed as high-concept, gripping and intimate psychological drama about a man on a desperate and relentless quest to save his relationship – and by extension, his whole world.

Studio Babelsberg, the historic German studio that recently hosted “The Matrix Resurrections” production, has been acquired by Tpg Real Estate Partners.

The company, which is part of global alternative asset firm Tpg, first revealed plans to acquire a stake in the studio in September via Trep’s acquisition of Babelsberg’s main shareholder, Filmbetriebe Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (Fbb), which was controlled by Carl L. Woebcken and Christoph Fisser. As part of that deal, Fbb launched a public tender offer to acquire a majority of the shares in Studio Babelsberg, which went through in October.

All closing conditions of the transaction have now been fulfilled, the companies have said, with Woebcken and Fisser continuing to hold a minority stake in the studio.

Apple Original Films said Thursday that indigenous actresses Tantoo Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins and Jillian Dion will star in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming feature Killers of the Flower Moon based on David Grann’s bestseller.

The four join the already announced cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jesse Plemons and Lily Gladstone. The movie, set in 1920s Oklahoma, depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Cardinal, whose credits include Dances With Wolves and Godless, will play the role of Lizzie Q, the mother of Mollie Burkhart, played by Gladstone.

Myers, Collins and Dion will play Mollie’s sisters, Anna, Reta and Minnie.

Scorsese is producing Killers of the Flower Moon off a screenplay by Eric Roth. Producing alongside the Oscar-winning filmmaker are Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas and Appian Way Productions.
