Funny and relatable
jeannebettencourt10 September 2021
Maybe it's because I'm a mom in my mid 30s but I found this show incredibly relatable and hilarious. I truly do not understand the low ratings and negative reviews... Maybe people didn't stick around long enough? At first the characters are unlikable but they grow on you. I especially relate to Elizabeth Shue's character.

Anyway, give this show a shot if you like smart, funny, sometimes awkward shows that don't feature picture perfect actors.

It gets way better
mjthania9 September 2021
The show is different, kinda realistic but not that typical realistic we are used to on this type of comedies. Each character had their likable and unlikable aspects and this I loved. A couple of scenes were too cringy for my tasted, the acting was mostly good, maybe some aspects of the stories needed more development, but hey! It's comedy! Or "dramedy".

Hmmmmm

I don't understand the awful reviews...it's not the best but it is quirky in the European way....laugh out loud moments, tenderness and a realness of life most shows don't come close to.... I really liked it....quite original....and definitely worth watching.

A bunch of storylines that go nowhere
melodyso14 October 2021
It seems like they intentionally create drama from these women's life and make up this strong and independent storyline. The story is stretched too long just to go nowhere after 12 eps. I don't feel that I know the characters that well and they are portrayed quite superficially.

Very funny, very real depiction of life in your 40s
ht19809 September 2021
Loved this show, just put it on randomly and watched the whole thing in almost 1 sitting. The writing is very funny and sharp and shows a ton of wit and humanity.

(Btw a bunch of the negative reviews here seem to be because there is some French is spoken in the show and apparently those people get confused when hearing another language. Says it all about the quality of the reviews here, but anyway...)

A Show About Nothing ...
Reviewer9911 December 2021
Could only get part way through episode 3 before I jumped to the end to see how it ended. All the way through I couldn't help but think about the Seinfeld, "show about nothing" comment.

Why do I miss this show?
winklerruth13 September 2021
Its addictive, and also a bit awful. All the husbands are terrible people. The women are mostly vapid and boring, except I want to see where the story with the Yasmin character is heading. I think Elisabeth Shue absolutely saves this show, she's the only one I related to at all. I'd like to see more of her with her mom, Stephanie Powers. Julie Delpy is subtly funny, I had no idea she had comedic chops. I find myself rooting for her husband's demise. The Elle character was painful to watch. Just awful. I got to the point that I couldnt stand her face. If they do another season, I'd like to see Elle fall off a cliff or something.

Loved it. So fabulously not the American same ol'
pollythebrand8 September 2021
Like it or not Woody Allen lives on in shows like this. I love that it's confronting and often awkward. I love that the women don't all look like cookie cutter Instagram models. The French choose character over glamour. The relationships are shockingly age appropriate, and the relationship troubles are real. Maybe exaggerated slightly, perhaps not.

It definitely has a 'Woody Alleness' to it in the best kind of way.

Stupid
GoalDigs9 September 2021
This was so, so stupid, pathetic and unmoving. The characters completely unbelievable and unbearable. What a waste of a potentially good foundation and ensemble of characters.

I loved it and hated it

Ell and Yasmine, especially Yasmine, need to be throat punched. The marriages are toxic, the men are either narcissistic or let the women walk all over them. I can't stop watching though.

The stars are for Shue
ZillyPutty10 September 2021
As a middle-aged woman, I am painfully embarrassed by this drivel. Thanks so much for perpetuating the cliche of the hysterical female, Delpy. Elizabeth Shue is sort of operating on her own plane and was the only semi-enjoyable aspect of watching this show.

Fun and funny
rossalr9 September 2021
I'm amazed this show hasn't received more praise. It's a wonderful portrayal of the neurotic behaviour of middle aged people in LA. The characters are all deeply flawed and mostly unlikeable but they are refreshingly honesty and hilariously selfish. Well worth a watch.

Yet another series about shallow, self centered people.

I think those days are over for now.

Warning: Spoilers
...but there was barely any. I don't quite understand what this show is trying to convey. I could not buy the deep and meaningful friendship of the 4 women since their dialogues seemed as if any two strangers could be talking to each other and the episode with the beach, for me, tried way too hard to convince viewers of their deep bonds. Witty dialogues and true support by standing up for each other (not just standing next to a friend) were completely lacking.

All 4 women have relationship issues, especially Justine is treated like garbage by her husband and not once does anyone stand up for their supposed best friends. The dialogues are riddled with repeating the names of the person they were talking to which tried to seem intimate but failed completely. I don't understand how it can be compared to "Working Moms" when one line from that show like "Yeah, you go dude, love you, man" shows deeper connections and care for each other than 3 friends leaving everything behind to meet a friend at the beach.

Most men behaved horribly and instead of following through what Justine yelled at the soccer field "I am not scared of any man!" we watch her being treated like trash by her husband, work colleagues, the photographer and so on.

So every episode you hope that enough is enough and while the small up's (husband giving her a compliment) are followed by extreme low's (husband calling her names) are supposed to be funny, it just leaves you disappointed.

The frantic character of Yasmin, while the most intriguing story-line, does not by any means make sense. Highly intelligent, fluid in many languages, head-strong, brave - those skills are all in her description - but what we get is scared, unsure, irritable, overbearing, exhausting.

In summary, there was great potential, but why would I want to watch another season of a show that just leaves a bad feeling & regret for having given it a chance.

Love to hate it it Can't stop watching
bdagmar20 September 2021
Why are the husbands all such selfish jerks and the women so absolutely pathetic ? The only redeeming value is Elisabeth Shue and her character and Julie Deply when she's not near the husband, otherwise I keep watching to see if it gets better.

Refreshingly different
angeloukorstjens1 November 2021
I was pleasently surprised with a show about women in their forties. Im not forty yet, but somehow i could really relate to this. I love the style and script. I love the realness of feeling unhappy, stuck and powerless. "Maybe we're just sad we didn't become who we hoped to become". I love the realness of the pace how long it takes to accept you're unhappy and want to make changes. I'm definitely the target audience for this show😅.

The only thing that didn't make sense to me was the spy thing. What was that about?

Disappointing
Boxer_00718 September 2021
This was a bit all over the place. Neurotic, over-exaggerated, and really unlikable characters. As a European myself who enjoys unconventional cinema I can say there's nothing "European" or entertaining about drunken upper class Californians pretending to be deep and meaningful.

Unlikable
theprincessrose10 September 2021
I wanted to adore a show about middle aged women, as it's so annoying that most new shows are made about high school or college aged kids. However, the women all have miserable relationships with their spouses and low self-esteem. It's hard to watch such unlikable characters. Where is the girl power? Where are the strong women sticking up for themselves? Single adults will definitely feel glad about their choices while watching this.

"The Chair" is a better execution on a successful middle aged mom with a complicated life.

So pretentious!
Blhhas27 October 2021
I am a person who can find entertainment in just about anything, and I wanted to like this. The women were either too broken, too feminist, too political etc. To be relatable to most watchers who are not extremes themselves. Then conveniently these extreme women are close friends. Again, this does not happen in the real world which is why there are so many people who saw this like I did...pretentious drivel.

Amazingly funny
amazonmail-885328 September 2021
I never write or leave reviews on IMDB. I have resisted the whole registration process for years as it is nothing more than a marketing travesty. It was a painful but necessary process just to write these few words...amazingly funny...and well written, directed, and produced. Don't listen to the opinionated "stream or skip" preachers. Instead, decide for yourself and your might find yourself amused, surprised, entertained. That is, if you are open-minded enough to grasp its funny wit.

I got up to episode 6 and it is going nowhere
sherripadgitt12 September 2021
This show isn't going in any direction except for all over the place. I can't figure out what the point of it is. No one and I mean no one is real or likeable in this show. Women are put in pathetic roles that do not simulate real life. I don't know who was high when writing this but, really try again.
