Bullyparade forever - A movie for fans
TheMovonka17 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The boys are back! Christian Tramitz, Rick Kavanian and Bully Herbig, who brought us one of our favorite German comedy shows the Bullyparade from 1997 to 2002, let hearts of fans jump high reviving their old roles and characters in an episode movie. Bullyparade: The Movie shows exactly the most beloved main scetch sceneries, including Sissi, empress of Austria and her devoted husband, the Kasirske brothers reminiscing of good old DDR times, the Winnetou persiflage, Lutz and Löffler and of course the emotional aroused crew around Mr. Spuck. Bringing back these roles in five separate short stories, the team is able to setup gag after gag and include citations and side characters fans are longing so see.

If you have no clue what I am talking about, fair enough. Then my critique hits in correctly, as this movie is made especially for the fans. Taking the very best out of the iconic comedy show and sew it together loosely is entertaining and keeps a smile on audience faces seeing how much fun the trio had in creating this movie. Even if the script lacks of a real core sometimes and seems to be written in a short period of time, the focus obviously lay in putting up clever jokes. You may look out for your personal favorite ones, as a lot of jokes happen in the background or are hidden in written form. These details make it worth a watch alone. Example giving, one of my personal big laughs was one no other in the cinema understood as it needed some historical background knowledge concerning the Bavarian king. You will get what I mean.

Is Bullyparade: The Movie a good movie? No. Is it fun to watch, absolutely, and this is the only thing that counts in the perspective of the purpose of the Bullyparade in general. I forgive that jokes are not igniting temporarily as intended and oversee the forced try to connect the sketch episodes to each other, but I personally love the Bullyparade style and always will.

Note: Please consider this critique only for German speaking countries, as this movie cannot and should not be translated, as comedy is based on German characters and word jokes.

wish I didn't pay for it

I am a huge fan of Bully's movies and I was very excited when i saw the trailer for this movie.

It's not necessarily a bad movie, there are some laughs in it and it has that classic charm of the TV show, but in a time where you can get high quality comedy on YouTube for the cost of watching an ad or two, I don't feel like it was worth going to the cinema for.

This might work okay as a regular evening-filling film on TV but I was disappointed walking out of that cinema. The humour is a bit dated, the plots are questionable and it all feels a bit try-hard.

Bully will have to step up his game and make actual comedy movies if he wants to keep up with today's standards.

Warning: Spoilers
"Bullyparade: Der Film" or "Bullyparade: The Movie" is a German movie from this year (2017) written and directed by Michael Herbig who is more known here in Germany under the name of Bully. Bullyparade is a television show that ran between 1997 and 2002, which means that it's already a long time since this show made Bully famous. But it is okay because most of the key characters in here got their own films afterward, so they are far from forgotten and with this mention I am of course referring to the likes of "Der Schuh des Manitu". There are some films in Bully's body of work from the last 10 years that were admittedly not too great, but this one here is fine. People criticized that it's nothing really fresh or new anymore, but I'd rather call it predictable and not in a bad way as the comedy as a whole is convincing on a level where I would say that this film is the best Bully has done in recent years. Bullyparade was a good show without a doubt and it definitely says a lot about Herbig's talent that he can still add refreshing and innovative creativity to characters that existed for a really long time. Then again, there weren't any sequels to Der Schuh des Manitu or so like there are five films for Ice Age for example. Back to this one here, it runs for 90 minutes and the quality gets slightly worse the longer the film goes. But it is all tolerable and I also want to give a mention to Rick Kavanian here and even more so to Christian Tramitz, who is probably the cast's MVP showing everybody that even a man in his 60s can deliver goofy comedy to a truly convincing degree because they are often ignored next to Herbig's stardom. This new film here basically is a collection of several short films with sometimes smoother, sometimes rougher transitions between the episodes. Cast includes other Bullyparade cast members like Herold, but also people like du Mont that have worked with Herbig on several occasions. Anyway, overall this was indeed Bullyparade: The Movie, a fairly enjoyable watch most of the time and it is exactly what one could expect. If you are old enough to remember (liking) the show, then give it a go. I give these 1.5 hours a thumbs-up.

as dated as i thought

When i heard about the movie a happiness based on nostalgia got to me. My only hope was: please let this be a project of love to update the original idea of bullyparade. Instead it is a project of financial interest, before nobody cares about the bullyparade anymore. You find all the beloved characters from the TV series in the movie, what you don't find is any creativity or concept to bring them alive. What keeps you going is the enjoyable visual standard and the recognition value that milks your nostalgic sentiment . But if you brush that to the side you have some pretty old jokes, trapped in a skit format that was enjoyable in the 90s and are stretched out to fit into a movie format. Maybe you should have gone jackass style, they didn't even pretend to have a concept and just lined up chapters with no real connection. As harsh as it sounds: i wish i didn't watch the movie. At least i was able to enjoy the innocence of the TV show every now and than on YouTube. Thats spoiled now too. Please Herbig next year is your 50th birthday. How about an original project nothing adapted. "Buddy" but with balls. Please?

Partly entertaining but not creative

"Bullyparade - Der Film" is a journey thru Michael "Bully" Herbigs German Blockbusters. Real Bully fans will love the famous characters of "Der Schuh des Manitu", "Traumschiff Surprise"... and the Bullyparade a very famous comedy show running at Pro 7 channel in Germany from 2007-2012. Although lots of good work jokes make it quiet good entertainment I am missing really good new and creative ideas. So it's a must-see for real Bully fans only.

Lazy cash grab

This is basically a remake of old sketches from the old TV-Series. There is literally nothing new to see here. All the well-known characters from the show, the gay parody of the Enterprise crew, Winnetouch, Sissy etc. Are here, only held together by a very thin string and no real storyline to speak of. Of course you could say, that something like this does not need an overarching storyline, but what is presented here is simply not enough. Thats really as bare-bones as it gets. I think they really should have made a sequel of the "Traumschiff Surprise" movie instead, this feels like they thought the fans would eat up everything they throw at them. Really a waste of time, and just watching a movie because of nostalgia is not enough.

Laugh now

So 20 years after the show initially aired on TV people thought it'd be a good idea to bring all those involved back. And I'm certain there were more than a handful of people who were more than delighted by that fact. But the end product unfortunately left more people dissapointed rather than delighted, which is a shame. Having said that, the movie with its parodies of other very popular (at least in Germany, some even worldwide) movies. There are some very fine and interesting ideas inside most of the "sketches", but that is just it - most of them would work better in a TV show rather than being bits and pieces in a feature length movie. The end credits almost remedy the whole thing - one might find him or herself unable not to laugh at the outtakes presented there.

Typical Bully Movie
mariousa-5408429 August 2021
Don't know why this movie got such a low rating , it's a typical Bully movie with great jokes and clips ,of course you need to be a fan of those kind of jokes and also need to know a lot of back knowledge to think its funny.
