The second season of House of the Dragon, though successful, was pretty lackluster when compared to its debut season. Season 2 peaked in the middle, then fell off at the end, something we have seen before in the case of Game of Thrones. And there’s good reason for that.

Compared to the last show he created, Fox’s short-lived “Making History,” Julius Sharpe’s new series “United We Fall” is surprisingly low concept.
A traditional, multicamera family sitcom, the series centers on a couple (played by Will Sasso and Christina Vidal Mitchell) and their struggle keep up with the day-to-day demands of raising two young daughters. And that’s about it as far as the premise goes. No time-traveling duffel bags or period costuming or recreations of major historical events. There are opinionated in-laws, sure, but the Founding Fathers do not make an appearance.
“You could say I was out of fanciful ideas, so I just tried to take a look at what might be interesting,” Sharpe said in an interview with TheWrap. “And the more I started talking to people about it, people seemed keyed into it in a way that they never seemed keyed into my other ideas.

ABC has set a July premiere date for the new comedy “United We Fall,” the broadcaster announced Thursday.
The family sitcom, which stars Will Sasso and Christina Vidal Mitchell, will debut on Wednesday, July 15 at 8 p.m.
Described as a profoundly realistic family sitcom, the series centers on Jo and Bill, parents of two young kids, as they try to make it day to day as a functioning family. Bill’s very judgmental live-in mother and Jo’s large Latinx Catholic family will never hesitate to let our couple know they’re seemingly screwing up, but Bill and Jo will always have each other’s backs, united against everyone – other parents, teachers, doctors, specialists, coaches, co-workers and especially their kids.

ABC has picked up an additional drama and comedy series for the 2019-2020 season.
The network has ordered hourlong legal drama For Life (fka Hank Steinberg/Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson Project) and multi-camera family comedy United We Fall. Both hail from Sony Pictures TV, which will co-produce with ABC Studios.
United We Fall and For Life join comedy mixed-ish and drama Untitled Cobie Smulders (aka Stumptown), both from ABC Studios, to bring ABC’s new series for next season to four so far.
Along with Untitled Cobie Smulders, which was picked up to series on Wednesday, For Life had been a frontrunner among ABC’s drama pilots. In “Joust!”, the 21st episode of ABC’s freshman sitcom “Single Parents,” Will (Taran Killam) is rushing out of his house when he pauses to crack a joke. “Don’t steal anything,” he tells Angie, played by Leighton Meester. They both laugh — it’s a joke! — but then Will stops again at the door and repeats his request, sans frivolity. “Don’t steal anything,” he says.
“I’m going to steal some shit,” Meester told IndieWire when remembering the scene during a recent interview. “For some reason, that’s become an inside joke — that Angie’s a freaking klepto.”
What matters, though, is that Meester manages to build off that joke in just two seconds of screen time. As Will leaves, Angie turns toward the camera with an annoyed look on her face — as if to say, “How dare he think I’d steal from a friend!” — only to pivot...

Oscar-winning writers/directors/producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have signed a massive five-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.
No one is commenting but the value of the pact is believed to be in the nine figures. Under the agreement, the duo will develop live-action comedy and drama series as well as animated shows through their Lord Miller Productions company, including a suite of TV series based on Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters, referred to as Spider-verse, which had been a priority for Spt.
The latter is said to have been a major selling point that helped bring Lord and Miller to Sony TV in a very competitive situation with multiple independent studios and a streaming platform pursuing them. The pair is coming off winning an Oscar for Sony’s Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. The Sony TV deal allows the pair to develop their own projects for network,...

Other than a recent voice acting stint on “Duck Tales” (woo-oo!), Don Cheadle has been gone from our TVs for too long. The Golden Globe winner last starred on Showtime’s comedy series “House of Lies” for five seasons as an immoral but driven management consultant.
Cheadle returns to the network with “Black Monday,” trading in his suit and tie for, well, more suits and ties, but with a totally ‘80s flair. Check out Showtime’s official overview of the series:
“Black Monday” takes us back to October 19, 1987, aka Black Monday, the worst stock market crash in Wall Street history. To this day, no one knows who caused it – until now. The series was created and executive produced by David Caspe (“Happy Endings”) and Jordan Cahan (“My Best Friend’s Girl”), who also serve as showrunners. The Netfix animated comedy “Big Mouth,” from the beginning, has drawn true comedy greats together for some of the finest voice acting around — any show that can spotlight Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Fred Armisen, and Jordan Peele with plenty of room left over for an eclectic guest cast that includes Kristen Bell, Richard Kind, June Diane Raphael and more is to be admired.
Season 2 of the series about pre-teens in the literal grip of their hormones brought back those returning favorites alongside leads Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, and Jessi Klein. The affable “Single Parents” pilot plays out a lot like co-creator Elizabeth Meriwether’s last TV pilot — the Fox hit, “New Girl,” which ended earlier this year. There’s a lone weirdo in trouble, a group of friends who are hesitant to help, and, somewhat inexplicably, the group rallies around the outsider just as their personal crisis peaks.
In “New Girl,” said weirdo is Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel), a grade school teacher spinning out after a bad breakup with her boyfriend. Looking for a new home, she sits down for an interview with three dudes who need a roommate. For those who forgot, Jess pitches herself as a bit of an emotional wreck who sings to herself and watches “Dirty Dancing” on repeat — you know, the ideal roommate. Nevertheless, the guys accept her and even come together at episode’s end to save her from a terrible date.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) are set to help develop a new comedy series at NBC as executive producers. The series is a workplace comedy called Business as Usual and it’s described as a comedy about “everyday employees at a company in crisis, trying to keep their jobs and maintain their relationships as their workplace goes insane.”
According to Variety, the project generated significant interest from several networks and many of them offering to buy it in the room before it ultimately ended up landing at NBC.
The project is set up to be produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television, and what’s interesting about that is that fact that the concept for the series is very similar to what is going on at Fox at the moment as they are being purchased by Disney.
Obviously, the series isn’t about what is happening at Fox,...

Anyone who has watched Netflix’s TV adaptation of Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It, the filmmaker’s acclaimed and controversial 1986 film debut, has not only noticed that DeWanda Wise has reinvented the iconic role of Nola Darling for a 2017 audience, but that her version of Nola wears a nose ring -- well, sometimes.
There's a pattern to when and why the Fort Greene, Brooklyn-based polyamorous artist dons the accessory: when she's about to -- or has had -- sex with one of her three male partners.
And it was all Wise's idea.

It's this thing that's deeply imbued in ritual, and it was like a facet of the ritual that I contributed to Nola," she tells Et. In fact, she wears a different ring depending on the partner Nola has just been with -- financier Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), model-photographer Greer Childs...
