Would be decent if they didn't stage drama
adampuga17 July 2020
The people have good personalities when they are allowed to be themselves. They do great work and make houses look awesome! The biggest pitfall is all the staged events and poor acting around the staged events

I all ways find it funny that people say It's so Staged . Come on . It's TV . It's all staged Even the news .. I watch for tips not Oscar winning actors. I like the show but that is just me . My husband and I get our tip and our laughs . Better than some that is on .

Campy horror theme is nice
Valentijn7821 June 2017
This is a semi-scripted show, just like all of the other house-flipping shows. The personalities aren't obnoxious, but a couple of them do struggle a lot with sounding natural while addressing the camera. Their dialogue with each other is natural and their disagreements generally don't seem staged (the bad acting would give it away), though some do seem to make decisions they know will provoke a reaction.

While the title's focus is on "Zombie" houses which are empty for a long time due to foreclosure or other economic issues, they clearly state in the first episode that they are extending that to include other long-empty, run down, or otherwise scary houses. They play this up with a campy horror-style intro, and various gross, dangerous, and mysterious things found in these houses with some retro horror editing. It makes for a nice turn of humor, and keeps the show from taking itself too seriously.

But there's also a lot of construction and design elements, with explanations of both.

Worth watching if you want to be irritated
jasinned12 May 2018
Over-acted by terrible annoying so called personalities. Of course it's staged, there's always a water leak, one would think before gutting the inside of a house that you'd turn the water main off, but for some reason they always wait till they crack a pipe to do that. Duke (The Designer) and Keith (The Builder) would have to be the two most irritating people on the show, however the other two morons aren't far off. The show just doesn't work, the cast continuously talk over one another and bicker, there's no chemistry.

So What..
susanhudek5312 May 2018
All the other reviewers claim it's a lame show because it's so scripted. What reality show isn't. Someone mentioned Chip and Joanna's show in comparison. That show is so scripted that Joanna spoke about how many takes it took for the reveals. This isn't rocket science here. It' just plain fun. Being a Floridian I enjoy that the show is in essence "local". I don't understand all the negative nelly reviews. Take it for what it is....Just plain fun.

Would be way better without the fake incidents.
the_real_smile24 January 2022
A very huge shame. This series has a huge potential, buying a terrible house, fix it and sell it. The reward for the viewer is the satisfying difference between begin and end and tips and tricks about house improvement. But, and that's a huge but, they stage all kind of disasters and accidents, completely unbelievable and totally unnecessary, a huge shame. Always a camera pointed right at the accident, like the episode where their truck loses a granite kitchen piece, what "luck" the camera's were rolling.

I really hope they see this comment, lose the fake parts, real life series are enough unreal as they are.

not good
alisaecrocker8 March 2016
I watched 1 episode because it was filmed in Florida. The scene with the gator in the pool looked completely staged. It's amazing how the pool had about an inch of water in the shallow end until the gator showed up and all of a sudden it has several inches of water. BTW, gators do not hiss without provocation. There had to be someone off camera aggravating it. Also, the guy that said he grew up in Florida should know that you never feed a gator. It makes them dangerous and they come back! So stupid. Then they took all the character out of the house making it "upscale." Making it cookie cutter is what really happened. They took out a really interesting back splash (and very nice black granite) and replaced it with the same glass back splash you see everywhere. They then removed all the authentic Florida stone and installed imported stone. Supposedly this house was unoccupied for a year before being worked on, i.e. a "zombie." The shower was full of shampoos and there were rugs on the floor. It certainly looked lived in to me.

This show is juist painfull.
mistyolds23 October 2018
Where did they find these idiots, Keith is so bad, and Duke lets face it, I think the dog is smarter than all four put together. They are like the Alaskan Bush teaching you how not to do stuff. I think when the cameras aren't rolling other teams come and in finish the work for them. People that know what they are doing. Sure isn't them. Freedom of speech people this is my opinion not asking you to like it. Have a good day. LOL

Fun and quirky

People get over yourselves, this isn't some slick thing we see over and over again on HGTV.. Just a group of people flipping so.e horrific homes in Florida. Husband and I have had some good laughs, and the end results are pretty awesome. So just relax and enjoy the awful houses, unique characters, and the beautiful results in end..

Useful ideas
mariannelhanson28 September 2021
I enjoy this show; get ideas of what can be done and how much it would cost. Also like that they cover issues with permits, contractors leans, and historical considerations. I dont mind the acting, its a "reality show" after all, and stuff does go wrong on projects. I like it!

Super staged and terrible design
christenpainter13 July 2019
The only good part of the show is when it ends. They must go super cheap when staging the homes.. they should just leave it as a blank canvas. Design ideas are updated but still ugly. And the obvious is how scripted it is..adding drama just to make the show better.. it's not working.

Very Entertaining
blatantPirate17 April 2016
Okay, we know it is reality TV. There is a bit of dramatization, fine.

The guys go in, face some horrific building problems, argue with each other, and try to get in on time and budget. If you like houses, decoration, projects, a bit of stress, it's really very entertaining.

The folks running it seem like genuinely nice people, which is a nice change for reality television.

Damp floors, rotting facades, disagreements over design, local market competition - they really run through in detail the different problems that can be faced with a run- down property.

We particularly liked the interaction between the different members of the team. They are very candid about their approaches to solving practical problems.

Warning: Spoilers
Lived and grew up in Florida. Lived in North Orlando. Work in construction. Got a laugh when they come across proplems. Watching there corner house home near a lake thats been sitting for years. First mistake. They bought it for too much money. Asking price $350,000 would have offered $300,000. $125,000 in Rehab. Like the gator prop. All homes should be re-roof an added to Rehab. Should have left the stoned with cleaning and stone enhancer. Still could sell with for over $700,000 on corner lot home easy. Bad front windows. Should have left the stone. Theres your window cost. Gator removal. Gator tails good. Could have made more. House look great.

Stick to the renovations
sfletcherpersonal9 August 2018
If the show focussed on the actual ins & outs of the renovation it would be so much better! Fake 'drama' setups where granite slabs fall off the back of their trucks, alligators in the pool, water pouring through the house, backyards on fire.... the list goes on & every episode has at least 1! Bad acting, especially from Keith.

Worst of the Worst
brtree16 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watch several house flipping shows but this is horrible and unwatchable. After four excruciating episodes I finally called it quits. The moron 'stars' are beyond talentless. Very UN-telegenic, zero charisma, zero chemistry. I can't even think of a single positive element other than maybe the (premise) of the show. The episode that was the final nail in the coffin... two of the stars were being terrorized by a DRONE of all things. It buzzed them while they were working, in and outside of the house and they went to war with it using a butterfly net and paintball guns. OMG was this episode written by a 3rd grader????? 65% of episode was spent chasing the drone, maybe 35% spent on the renovation. Total cringe-fest. GOODBYE.

Funny, easy show to watch
allthingswatched17 December 2017
For all the people who rated the show 1 star, seriously, are you just one person? Or are you all part of the same support group? If not, seriously get some help for your anger issues.

The show isn't bad at all, and I watch all of them. Is it staged? Sure, but what reno-reality doesn't introduce some type of made up drama? Is it sometimes corny? Yes, but it's also very comical to watch. The relationship between the team is nice because it seems like they all get along well. The showcase at the end where they show before and after is great to see. The numbers crunch, different, and I like it. The work and craftsmanship, wow.

Personally, hope they have more seasons, and/or expand to other cities.

It could be worse...
joel_carty13 April 2019
Anyone watch Flipping Vegas? This one is a fairly entertaining diversion. At least the personalities don't totally chafe me like so many of the others in this genre. Scripted, Check. Formula driven, Check. Mildly entertaining, Check. I don't see any reason for a 1 or a 10. Binary ratings bother me, plenty of room in the middle between Shawshank and "look who's talking two" :)

Thumbs down!

Warning: Spoilers
The Most A**inane, completely staged piece of crap on FYI. The only good thing was the premise. Completely scripted with really stupid "Uh-oh" moments. In this episode a home was bought at a premium price, sight unseen, no inspection! Fresh spray paint "graffiti", newly broken drywall. Do you really expect us to believe those two shiny jacks were put in before the show? Brand new wood supporting them? It's Florida. It rains! But no-one checked the weather forecast and properly tarped the house? If you are really into home renovation, this is not the show for you. This show is for people who believe that "wwe" is real. As Bugs Bunny would say "what a bunch of ultra-maroons!"

Fun and creative.
kimberleylancaster5 November 2019
This is not acting. This is reality show. For all you people that condemn the acting, it's not. A reality show is a reality show, it's not gone with the wind. This show is entertaining. I really enjoy the characters, my favorite is Keith. People can chill out. Houses are being renovated, and that's what the show is about. The before and after, and the transformation. It serves its purpose.

Fake
drummermarco9118 March 2021
Scripted. Horrible acting but they aren't Actors so the rating is not for them. It's for the actual show and the producers, the writers, etc. There was opportunity here but unfortunately this is so fake it's hard to watch. Episode I just watched had the red truck chuck granite off of it taking a sharp turn ON PURPOSE. What A waste

Informed renovation questionable style
ggstar339 March 2022
Really clever house flipping series with good focus on renovation ideas and real estate fundamentals but the lack of a real designer sees the latest season flat when it comes to style & design choices.

PHONY
unkqty-4648112 May 2018
Main cast of this show could not plan and execute a kid's birthday party. its obvious they do very little ofthereal work, rather spend the whole episode fussing , fretting and squabbling over minutiae or basic decisions. its greatthey work for themselves, as any competent project manager or flip/construction business would toss them out on their ears. everything is a crisis - even when its not. budgets are pulled from thin air, which is just as well bc this crew appears clueless at creating or following one. this is one of those shows i only watch when there's nothing else available and I'm waitkng for another show.

This show is fun!
suzyfisher211 January 2020
The cast is entertaining and knowledgeable and its fun to watch. The Florida area is used well and I learned a lot about concrete block construction since that is apparently common there. Also found a great cleaning product from this show. Got my travel trailer clean for the first time in years. So that was a bonus. I enjoy it.

Scripted, but somewhat entertaining
craig_rowth19 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Yeah. It's scripted, when the guy in one episode is chopping that large tree down, and the contractor parks exactly where the tree is about to fall. Camera person films the whole event and does nothing. The crew knows that trees are being cut, and there are no coned off areas for safety. Still entertaining though.

As FAKE as It Gets
SomeTeethNoHair18 March 2017
I understand reality shows aren't real. But these people are bad actors trying (and failing) to act out some of the worst scripts I have seen. Viewers are lied to constantly and led to believe these four don't communicate to the point of tearing down walls that shouldn't have been torn down. Example: Tile that wasn't where it should have been in the tile store but was "miraculously" found sitting on a cart in the back of the store. How fortunate. Then these morons draped a tattered, hole- filled tarp across an entire house then acted (poorly) as if they were dismayed when they discovered the rain had gotten past their hole-filled tarp and soaked the wooden floor below. These are just examples of how lame the script and acting is on this show. It deserves less than 1 star.
