Bill Murray has joined the already-stacked cast of director Dito Montiel’s upcoming crime comedy Riff Raff. More details below.
Dito Montiel’s crime comedy Riff Raff has set up quite a cast. Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Emanuela Postacchini, Miles J Harvey and Pete Davidson are all set to appear, and the film has just added another star to its ranks.
Bill Murray, who was just seen in Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire, will also appear in Riff Raff, Variety reports.
According to the same article, Riff Raff – not to be confused with the 1991 Ken Loach film of the same name – follows a former criminal, whose ordinary life is turned upside down when his family shows up for a “long-awaited reckoning”. John Pollono, whose work takes in Grey’s Anatomy, Masters Of Sex, and the 2021 indie comedy Small Engine Repair, has written the script.

Segura will play legendary avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman’s larger-than-life comedic persona Clifton, as well as the performer’s friend and longtime collaborator Bob Zmuda.

The “winners” of the 39th annual Razzies have been announced, and “Holmes & Watson” has the dubious honor of being named Worst Picture. Reilly; co-star Will Ferrell escaped the same fate, as Donald Trump (as himself in “Death of a Nation” and “Fahrenheit 11/9”) is the year’s Worst Actor.

The 2019 Golden Raspberry Awards were announced right before the stroke of midnight on Friday night, February 22. These 39th annual awards, “honoring” the worst achievements in film, were decided by more than 1,000 eligible voting members across all 50 states and two dozen foreign countries, while the Razzie Redeemer Award was chosen by registered users right here at Gold Derby. So who were the big winners — or losers, if you will? Watch the complete Razzies announcement video above, and scroll down to see the complete list of nominees and winners below.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have teamed up on comedy projects before, including “Talladega Nights” (2006) and “Step Brothers” (2008), but their December 25 release “Holmes and Watson” turned out to be coal in moviegoers’ Christmas stockings. The comic take on Arthur Conan Doyle‘s “Sherlock Holmes” stories scored a lowly 24 on MetaCritic, so it’s not too surprising that it was the Razzies...

With the Academy Award nominations being announced tomorrow, here’s something a little lighter as a momentary distraction. The Golden Raspberry Awards, also known as the Razzies, have announced their annual nominees. This “worst of” nominations list attempts to shine a light on the films and performances that were the opposite of high quality in a given year. For 2018, they’re at it again, with a new political wrinkle. This isn’t something to pay much attention to, but on the eve of the Oscars nominations, something silly like this is a change of pace, at least. Consider it an appetizer of sorts before the main course in the morning. This year, the Razzies were led by Gotti, which was “honored” with six nominations. Also taking in a half dozen nods was The Happytime Murders. In the top category of Worst Picture, those two movies were joined by Holmes and Watson,...

If their dismal reviews wasn’t punishment enough, for the 39th year, the Razzie Awards seek to recognize the achievements of the worst movies of the year. And for 2019’s crop of nominees, John Travolta’s “Gotti” and Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s “Holmes & Watson” both received the “honor” of being nominated for Worst Picture of 2018.
Melissa McCarthy might be nominated for an Oscar on Tuesday morning, but on Monday morning, she scored a nomination for Worst Actress for both “The Happytime Murders” and “Life of the Party,” and the former also landed among the five Worst Picture nominees. Contrary to the struggles of many mainstream movie protagonists, not everyone wants to be famous. Not everyone is yearning to realize their artistic/entrepreneurial/world-changing dreams. Some people just want to get by without hurting anyone in the process. That's the refreshing gist of Dito Montiel's The Clapper, a look at the blue-collar fringe beyond the Hollywood fringe — not the restaurant workers juggling auditions and casting calls, not the big-screen extras, but the seat-fillers who pretend to be enthusiastic audience members for infomercials and other excruciatingly bad TV fare.

The quirky romantic comedy has Helms playing a professional infomercial audience member who finds himself smitten with a gas station attendant played by Amanda Seyfried. Their romance is challenged, however, when […]

"Who is The Clapper?" Momentum Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Clapper, the latest from director Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One, Man Down). The Clapper is about a man, played by Ed Helms, who enjoys his job to be paid to fill seats in infomercial audiences. But when a talk late night TV talk show host discovers and makes fun of him, his whole life gets turned upside-down. Very weird concept for a film, but this trailer actually makes it look kind of amusing, with a sweet side. The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Charles Halford, and Leah Remini. This probably isn't what you're expecting, but doesn't look too bad. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Dito Montiel's The Clapper, direct from YouTube: Eddie is a guy who gets paid...

Over a decade ago, Dito Montiel made a well received indie movie, “A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints,” but ever since has largely been failing upwards. A string of movies have followed, that find him working with decent names (Dwayne Johnson, Shia Labeouf, Kate Mara, Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Juliette Binoche) but all them have failed critically or commercially or both (“The Son Of No One,” “Empire State,” “Boulevard,” “Man Down“).

Previously, we sat down in an exclusive interview with The Clapper writer (of the novel and film) and director Dito Montiel and star Russell Peters. Here are other interviews we grabbed with Tracy Morgan, Brenda Vaccaro, and Russell Peters as well.
The Clapper held its world premiere at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival on April 23rd in New York where actors and even guest stars (cough, Mark Cuban, cough) lined the red carpet. The film follows Eddie Krumble, a professional audience clapper in a talk show who loses his job and reevaluates his life. Ed Helms stars as Krumble opposite Amanda Seyfried, who plays his love interest Judy, with his nemisis Jayme Stillerman played by Russell Peters and his mother played by Brenda Vaccaro. Among the rest of the cast include P.J. Byrne, Adam Levine, Leah Ramini, and even Alan Thicke’s last film.

Some men are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ’em. Dito Montiel’s disarmingly sweet comedy The Clapper is about a man who not only has greatness thrust upon him, but is desperate to avoid greatness altogether.
Ed Helms is Eddie Krumble, a quiet little man who makes his living playing an audience member for infomercials, alongside his best friend Chris (Tracy Morgan) and a host of other oddballs. Eddie and Chris fill seats, clap, laugh, and ask those rote questions that no one ever doubted were scripted. And Eddie is pretty comfortable in that life – he has a sweet flirtation with Judy (Amanda Seyfried), a girl who works at a gas station and whom Eddie visits daily, just to see her. While this might not be the life that everyone dreams of, Eddie muddles along, if not quite happily then at least with increasing contentment.

Ed Helms produces and stars in The Clapper as a professional audience member of infomercials and live studio tapings. His quiet life changes when he goes viral, but fame isn’t what he wants — a notion that might be unfamiliar to most.
“The movie plays with the idea that everybody wants to be a famous celebrity — my character Eddie Krumble doesn’t want that, and it’s confounding to everyone around him,” Helms told The Hollywood Reporter. “Not everybody wants this, and the cultural assumption that everybody does says something about us. Every year, celebrities, filmmakers, journalists and movie fans flock to the Tribeca neighborhood in lower Manhattan for the Tribeca Film Festival, an illustrious celebration of film and television that features some of the most exciting projects and panel discussions of any media festival in the country.
Founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in 2001, shortly after the attacks of 9/11, the festival has helped revitalize the city and remind both filmmakers and fans alike of New York City’s valued place in film and TV while becoming a welcoming community for voices and perspectives from all over the world. “It’s also a fabric of our city. So whether or not it’s a film from Israel or Palestine or something for kids, our festival was about community and it still is,” Rosenthal tells Et. “It’s about bringing community together.”

It tells the real-life story of the fateful night senator Ted Kennedy (Clarke) lost control of his vehicle and drove it off a bridge, overturning the vehicle and trapping his passenger Mary Jo Kopechne (Mara) while he escaped. Instead of calling the police, Kennedy called upon his cousin Joe Gargan (Helms) and a friend, whom he told to go back to the scene and try to find her body. While Gargan was loyal, he also found great moral issue in the situation and eventually convinced Kennedy to call the police the next morning. Note: The below interview contains plot spoilers for The Neon Demon. The Neon Demon is a hugely divisive film that for me was never less than a fascinating watch. Love him or loathe him, Nicholas Winding Refn takes things to extremes that most other filmmakers wouldn’t dare; in Neon Demon specifically, the late-second and third acts are full of moments both shocking in their audacity and striking in how they manage to lure us in even as they repel us. Chief among these is a scene involving Jena Malone’s makeup artist Ruby and a blond female cadaver that gets very uncomfortable very fast. The more obvious, and equally valid, approach here would be to reach out to Refn and/or Malone to discuss the mechanics of an incredibly disturbing, button-pushing scene, and yet -- as someone perpetually fascinated by those who occupy the lower rungs on the Hollywood...
