A Focus on the Other Half of the Family

Warning: Spoilers
Prince Albert is feeling that he has no real function in his new marriage. While he is really in love with Victoria, he is stuck in that royal bureaucracy. She is the only one that can tweak the system and that leaves him powerless. He also wants to have children but she is having too good a time to want that right now. She has been told that if she jumps ten times after sex, it will prevent pregnancy. We see Albert walking around in a funk until the Parliament decides to take a stand on slavery worldwide. This include one of the biggest abusers, the United States of America. Since Victoria is prevented from speaking at a huge anti-slavery event, Albert will address over 2000 men. He struggles with his pronunciation and his delivery. Victoria goes to hear him and realizes at the last minute that she will get all the attention and again steal his thunder. She turns around and goes back home. Albert will be a major player now and I look forward to seeing more of him.

I rate this a 10 from the beginning to current..acting, cinematography, plot, editing, costumes, history create a true MASTERPIECE!!.I have been impressed with the gorgeous costumes and the history of the times in England.spectacular scenery.

!ove the tension and chemistry between Albert and the Queen.. I wish this caliber of TV was more prevalent in our current menu of dark violent offer vulgar programming offered in the US.... Absolutely love the series Victoria😀😀😃 Highly recommend to anyone that appreciates high caliber programming... Please continue with great stories and incite to the past.

Albert gets a purpose.

Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers. Observations. Opinions.

Albert needs something to do. He hates slavery. It is already outlawed in England, but he is asked to participate in an international anti-slavery society. It is hoped that slavery will soon be done away with in places such as the United States.

He wants to pronounce BARbarous better, but in rehearsal for his speech he keeps saying BarBARous. He gets constantly corrected.

He speaks to an abolitionist group, and does amazingly well. He receives thunderous applause.

Meanwhile, he hints at having children with the queen. She doesn't want any yet, so she does a very curious up and down dance in order to prevent conception. Trampoline, anyone?

The creepy downstairs Mr. Penge is no Mr. Carson. Penge acts and looks like a total idiot, constantly dreaming up some new type of ridiculous scheme.

Franchitelli is still creepy, preying on the desperation of the hairdresser. He says he only wants to know her first name, but I anticipated that the payment would be of a carnal nature.

Queen Victoria is asked by Prince Albert if she wants abstention. From what I have read, in real life she does not. She loves the process, but birth control pills don't come on the market until the 20th century. What to do? What to do?

Wait. There's more. In real life, she goes on to have nine children. This is a spoiler for the future, no doubt.

The Queen's Husband

Warning: Spoilers
Victoria and Albert are married. No room at all for Melbourne, he does not even appear in this episode.

However political manoeuvrings are still ongoing. Victoria cannot be escorted by Albert to the dinner table and there is still the case of anti German sentiment. Still young Victoria uses her cunning to placate the Duke of Sussex.

Albert is looking to make himself useful as Victoria has the business of being the monarch. The anti slavery movement is the cause he takes to his heart and makes an impassioned speech on the evils of slavery, he even impresses political sceptics.

Well it is nice to see the show take on the issue of abolitionism movement which serves to make Albert endearing to the viewing audience and also gives the writer some room to fill in Albert and Victoria's love affair before they go on to have lots of kids.

The Duchess of Inverness
edav-3588320 October 2020
Victoria makes her uncle's wife Duchesss of Inverness so he would feel compelled to walk in to dinner with her and that would leave Albert free to walk in with Victoria. The woman who plays this role is the writer of the Victoria seasons: Daisy Goodwin
