Priscilla Presley may be the former wife of the King of Rock ‘n Roll, but Sofia Coppola is the daughter of the Godfather of Cinema.
Coppola, who wrote and directed “Priscilla” based on Presley’s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me,” told The Hollywood Reporter that she could relate to Presley’s story of living in someone else’s shadow. Coppola is, of course, the daughter of Oscar winner Francis Ford Coppola.
“Oh, it would be a juicy, glamorous story,” Coppola said of reading Presley’s memoir. “But then I was struck by how much I connected with it emotionally. I thought it was just going to be a fun adventure, and I was surprised by how relatable her story was.”
The “Virgin Suicides” director continued, “I know from my family what it’s like to be inside a show business family. I know that growing up, people are looking at you in a different way.

Paul McCartney said The Beatles’ “Come Together” paved the way for many rap songs. He’s probably overstating his case. On the other hand, there have been some notable hip-hop tracks that drew inspiration from the Fab Four.
Paul McCartney | Les Lee / Stringer Paul McCartney felt The Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ initially sounded like Chuck Berry
In the 1997 book Paul McCartney: Many Years From Now, Paul discussed the origin of The Beatles’ “Come Together.” “[John] originally brought it over as a very perky little song, and I pointed out to him that it was very similar to Chuck Berry’s ‘You Can’t Catch Me,'” he said. “John acknowledged it was rather close to it, so I said, ‘Well, anything you can do to get away from that.’ I suggested that we tried it swampy — ‘swampy’ was the word I used — so we did; we took it right down.” Notably, John...

Angela Bassett took Lady Gaga’s “Top Gun: Maverick” lyrics literally and held the hand of her fellow acting nominee, Austin Butler.
In a moving moment during the 2023 Oscars, the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Best Supporting Actress nominee Bassett held “Elvis” star Butler’s hand while his category was being read. Bassett had already lost earlier in the evening to “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actress Jamie Lee Curtis. Butler, who went Method to play the King of Rock ‘n Roll, was beat out by Brendan Fraser for his turn in “The Whale.”
Bassett became a viral sensation for her moment with Butler, as well as a special shoutout by presenters and “Creed III” star Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors earlier in the evening.
“Hey Auntie,” Jordan said onstage, referencing his “Black Panther” character Erik Killmonger saying the same to Bassett’s Queen Ramonda in the first MCU film.

“I made him the highest paid actor in Hollywood history. We had a lot of fun!” So purrs Tom Hanks’ brazenly camp Col. Tom Parker in the new Elvis biopic. The film, which is the most decadent, jewel-encrusted piece of kitsch ever given an 85 million budget, is as much a monument to director Baz Luhrmann’s showmanship as it is Elvis Presley’s. For who else could condense the larger than life excess of a man dubbed “the King of Rock ’n Roll” into a three-ringed circus that keeps all its plates in the air for 160 minutes?
Elvis really is a marvel in spectacle and indulgence—plus a breakout for star Austin Butler who is so superb as the titular character that Luhrmann more than once slips in footage of the real Elvis’ 1950s rock star career, as well as clips from his ill-advised detour in 1960s Hollywood… and few viewers ever seemed to notice!

During those hazy, heady, hair-heavy days of glam metal in the Eighties, one could maybe be forgiven for occasionally mistaking one massive-mulleted band for another at first glance. But 40 years later, it looks like Amazon Prime Video has committed the victimless — but instantly meme-able — sin of not just confusing two groups, but two groups from two completely different eras also don’t exactly have the best relationship: The poster for the 2020 doc Rock ‘n Roll Icon: Mötley Crüe does not feature a photo of Mötley Crüe, but rather contemporary hair metal revivalists/satirists,...

Here's Jason Adams reporting from the Tribeca Film Festival
As the fifth movie I saw in a single day at the Tribeca Film Festival this past weekend (a new personal record!) I couldn’t have chosen wiser – Guilluame Canet’s movie star satire Rock'n Roll is as broad and goofy and absurd as they come, and while it might overstay its welcome (I’d say no comedy should run over two hours but Toni Erdmann did recently prove that golden rule incorrect) it’s also a lively good-natured farce that had the audience half rolling in the aisles.
Canet co-wrote and directed Rock'n Roll, and he stars as Guillaume Canet, famous French actor and director, partnered with and father to the child of Marion Cotillard, world-famous Oscar winning actress – the two actors (and a troupe of famous French faces that they enlist to star alongside them and fill out their...

“Step Brothers” is an all-time favorite among comedy lovers, and that apparently includes lauded French actress Marion Cotillard, who says she has watched the 2008 film starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly over and over again. Each time, she says, the ending makes her shed some tears.
“It might sound weird, but I always cry at the end of ‘Step Brothers.’ I’ve seen the movie ten times, and it still touches me at the end, when Will Ferrell sings. You don’t expect to cry watching that type of comedy, but I always do,” the “Assassin’s Creed” actress told “W Magazine,” which features her in its annual “Best Performances of the Year” issue.

It stars Mathieu Amalric (“A Christmas Tale”), Charlotte Gainsbourg (“Melancholia”), Marion Cotillard (“Inception”) and Louis Garrel (“The Dreamers”).
