Liked it More than I Thought I Would

I don't do well with comedy. I'm always that one guy in the room where, when everyone else is laughing at something, I'm there not reacting. I don't know what exactly the reason for that is, but I always avoid comedies or else I feel like a killjoy when I'm with others.

With that said, this short film was hilarious. Rich Evans' performance as Harry Plinkett is one of the funniest things I've seen. The high points of this sort, for me, is when he rambles endlessly about whatever comes to his mind that are vaguely within 6 degrees of separation of the original subject. I'm not sure how much of it is improvised or if any of it even was, but it's great either way.

Of course it does have that student film feeling to it with the corny sounding midi soundtrack. Based on other student films I've seen, however, I have to say that this still holds up better than most of the more modern ones I've seen.

This probably won't be funny to everybody, though. The humor can get a bit dark in its subject matter and anyone else who might be a fan of RLM's more recent works might not enjoy this one so much. Even when I first discovered this I was afraid it wasn't going to be as good as I wanted it to be. It turns out I still enjoyed it but in a different way. If you expect this to be like one of the skits from Half in the Bag or something, you might be disappointed. But if you go in without having the idea that this is made by the RLM and treat it like its own entity, I think you might find something enjoyable in this as I have.
