Wish I had seen it earlier, on Big Screen
rodela73220 December 2018
Watching Hollywood movies, it is pretty normal to think film industry in BD is way behind. As an engineering student again as a movie lover, I always prefer choose movies to watch precisely. When you're a movie lover yet busy, you do not have the luxury to explore movies which are not that famous. And taking a little faith in Giasuddin Selim, who is famous for his work 'Monpura', I chose to watch his latest work 'Swapnajaal'.

And I'm disappointed. Not because I watched it, because I didn't watch on Big Screen. I could've showed my support to him, no matter how small it is, inspiring him to keep up this work. Salute.

Even the plot rotate around two love birds, this film reflects the sick mentality of the society itself. It has shown the tendency of powerful people to take over other's property, no matter how brutal actions require. How people take advantages when someone needs help instead of supporting him/her. This film works as a mirror that reflects our own dark sides.

I often think, Bangali films takes long time to tell a simple story (about 2hours+). Most of the directors do not cut out unnecessary shots thinking how much effort they did on those shots. This long journey makes viewers to lose their focus on the subject. 'Swapojaal' also has running time for about 2 hours 20 minutes. But Giasuddin made this long journey worth every second. Each detail was necessary to viewers. So, if you're still thinking if you should watch it or not, read next paragrap.

If you're looking for a teenage love drama, you are not suitable for this. This story revolves around far more and beyond.

In the end, I'd like to appreciate Pori Moni's effort in this. She changed the way I thought about her before. She indeed can act and with proper guidance she will rule Bangladesh Film Industry in future. I pray for her success.

Thought provoking!!!
mkm-311836 April 2018
A Monpura, a hiatus of 9 years and Swapnajaal!

Set in 90's, Swapnajaal is a story of whimsical Apu and the girl next door Shuvra. The story engenders and revives accross the southern riverin of Bengal where their unconditional love endeavors between the animosity and religious boundary!

While Monpura was largely attributed to music and remained as a visual treat, Swapnajaal has a intriguing story with an unorthodox ending which apparently leaves the audience in quandary and might be worth of some critical analysis if not acclamation!

Shuvra might be the best work of Porimoni till date. I would say it's apparently the best from any of her contemporaries in recent times. Besides, I found Rohan a bit pale as the character Apu urged slightly more emotion!

Talking about the supporting cast, Babu nails it with his provocative act as a notorious and humorous trader. Apart from this, Iresh acted brilliantly as partner in crime to Babu and at some instance you would start feeling as if he stole the show from the big man. Nonetheless, Shacchu, Misha, Ashis Chakrobarty and others did justice to their roles.

In reviewing visual and technical aspects, I found the cinematography quite captivating besides music and background score could have been better.

Being grown up by watching films like Dahan, Alo, Unishe April, Rajkahini, Belasheshe, I always thought and questioned our ability to make films like those. But, then came films like Shrabon Megher Din, Joyjatra, Monpura and now Swapnajaal. It's a rare virtue of being an original scriptwriter and a Director at the same time. Giasuddin Selim perhaps lives up to that virtue as his most ambitious project since Monpura meeting expectations.

Swapnajaal makes you laugh, makes you cry, leaves you in enigma but eventually don't disapoints you rather quenches your thirst big time!

Hail Swapnajaal, Hail Bangla cinema!

Two thumbs up!

Masterpiece!!
shatez_link9 April 2018
"Swapnajaal" is remarkable just because Pori Moni isn't gratingly over the top as she is in most movies. "Swapnajaal" is well-scripted and well-acted with gorgeous visuals shot on location in Bangladesh & India. It's a charming film with wit fresh enough for a modern audience. Gias Uddin Selim out all the elements with care and precision The movie remains a great tonic.

a glimpse of hope for better future
nafi130913 July 2018
Nearly flawless to an untrained yet skeptic eye. A really captivating story with a fine script which is accompanied by a great selection for casts. Definitely unconventional comparing to Bangladeshi standards but a beautiful movie I would love to watch and recommend for the whole family.

Best Romantic Movie in Bangladesh
maharousewagdi9 May 2021
A film from the highly acclaimed director of Monpura, where starring most popular actress Pori Moni. The story of the film about the love of a young couple.

Kamrul Hasan Khasru's cinematography is all but flawless, and the art direction (by Anworul Haque and Samar Halder) is also commendable, especially in the latter part of the film.

Set in the riverside Chandpur suburbs of the '90s, "Swapnajaal" at its core is the story of Opu (Yash Rohan) and Shuvra (Pori Moni), two teenagers in 'young love'. Their blooming romance take a dramatic turn south when conniving influential businessman Aynal Gazi (Fazlur Rahman Babu), with the help of his trusted aide Thandu (Iresh Zaker) tactfully oust Shuvra and her family from their home. Opu fights back to bring justice to Shuvra's family and to get back his love, but even after justice is served, there are bigger obstacles on the way to their reunion.

It is the Best Romantic Movie in Bangladesh.

A Poetic Love Story !
jubsdu29 June 2018
A simple love story where there is no happy ending!

The movie has fantastic cinematography compared to the recent released films.

The storyline is quite a bit shaky in some places. Music and scores are placed in right positions. Background scores are sometimes played late - which gives a feeling that the editor forgot to put music when a specific sequence hits up.

The acting of the male protagonist is average ,on the other hand Pori Moni (female protagonist) has explored herself in new ways in acting in the movie. She didn't even look like a commercial movie actress.

The movie shows one side of love and lust ,and another side of greed and Karma. It also shows how one's karma is connected to other people's grief and frustration.

The best scene of the movie must be the dancing in the rain. Porimoni showed her dancing skills a little bit.

The recent movies are following the same path of sad ending! I don't know it's a good or bad thing , but I know one thing that all the films in recent times are showing one single emotion at the end with a complex gestures of climax. But, there is a subtle portray of emotion in this movie's ending - it depicts the visual expression in line with the ending plot which is not present in other films. From that core, we can easily say that this movie has all the components of being an art film and a commercial film at the same time.

I gave it an 8 for : good cinematography, better music and simplicity of the ending.

Swapnojaal - A 'Nice' Simple Love Story With A Tragedy. But Fails To Live Up With The Expectation.
ysayeem8 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Swapnojaal - A 'Nice' Simple Love Story With A Tragedy. But Fails To Live Up With The Expectation. Review - Nafiu Kabir

After Monpura, The All Time Blockbuster Which Still Lives With The Audience Director Gias Uddin Selim Came Up With Another Love Story Titled 'Swapnojaal'. Soon After Its Announcement People Showed A Huge Excitement Towards The Film As They Were Expecting Another Monpura. But Sadly It Isn't.

Swapnojaal Shows A Simple Love Story Between Opu & Shuvra. The Story Revolves Around A Family Tragedy Where Shuvra's Father Misha Showdagor Disappeares/Gets Lost. And After That Shuvra & Her Family For Some Reason Have To Leave The Country and Move To Kolkata. Thus Opu & Shuvra Gets Detached. Opu Then Tries Hard To Solve The Mystry Of Shuvra's Father. The Story Revolves Around This For Quite A Time Of The Film. But The Thing Which Really Was Disappointing , The Love Story Of Opu & Shuvra Which Supposed To Be The Main Target Gets Overshadowed By The Tragedy & All. Which Eventually You Realise When At The End You Don't Feel For Both The Characters.

Acting : Acting Of All The Actors Make The Film Better Than What It Is. Porimoni Stands Tall With The Best Perfomance Of Her Life. Others Also Were Very Very Good But You Have To Mention Fazlur Rahman Babu's Name. With His Great Comic Timing & Expressions, This Man Steals The Show.

Other Aspects : Cinematography , Background Music , Direction Were Simply Outstanding. But Again After Monpura Which Had Brilliant Songs, Swapnojaal Fails To Give You That.

Swapnojaal Is A Movie Which Till End Will Keep You Guessing What's Next and You Won't Feel Bad Throughout The Movie. But As Previously Said It Fails To Create A 'Feel' For The Relationship Of Opu & Shuvra. Overall A Good Movie. You Should Give It A Watch. But Don't Go With Expecting Another Monpura. You'll Be Disappointed.

Giasuddin Selim can do better!
faysalshahi10 April 2020
Good but not up to the mark. I strongly believe Giasuddin Selim can do much better than this. This is huge downfall from Monpura.

Giasuddin Selim, you are a gem of Bangladesh. I have watched Monpura few years back and now you gave the same masterpiece as "Swapnajaal". Now I'm feeling that if you had done few more movies. Love from India...

Swapnajaal, a magic
aashaa11 March 2019
The word "Cinema" isn't just a six letter word, it has a broad line and a perspective. Just arrange some shots and show the scene to the cinema hall isn't a cinema. A cinema is a cinema when it has a big and wider perspective for the viewers. Swapnajaal is that kind of a true cinema. I feel some cinematic moments when I watched the movie.

The maker of the cinema Giasuddin Selim is somehow know and a practitioner of developing real grammar of cinema. I remember there are some shots on the river, if you just feel the scene you could feel the vibe of the nature. I touched the widen natural beauty and perspective from the cinema. The maker is here is act like a magician, and I believe, at the end, a cinema is cinema when there is magic!
