Director Dennis Cahlo chose to trust his lead actors Danielle Guldin and Taso Mikroulis entirely by employing the use of technical improvisation for the dialogue in The Weekend in order to give it a "painfully real" feeling throughout. Although a full treatment was written with dialogue cues and beats by Dennis, almost all of the dialogue in the film was created during the takes.
The Weekend was filmed on a meager budget of $800 over a period of 3 days then edited, color graded, and sound engineered by Dennis Cahlo in an additional 2 days.
Taso Mikroulis, Danielle Guldin, and Dennis Cahlo all lived together in one apartment for the 3 days of shooting in order to create a strong intimacy on set and in the performances.
This is Dennis Cahlo's first film and was based on a weekend that actually happened to him.
