A melancholic story and yet a celebration of life, love and family

I didn't like the guy at first. He's borderline depressed the whole time and boring as a character too. The girl has her own issues, which is why she relates to him and his mood, but for the audience it's just not a very interesting relationship to watch. It gets better in the second half though, when the movie takes a pretty unexpected turn at one point, which makes the story meaningful and quite emotional. That's where I began to like it after all. It's interesting. While the story itself has a certain sadness to it, it still left me with a positive feeling. Thanks Japan for still making wholesome films.
