Very ordinary
Leofwine_draca7 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
OUIJAGEIST is another zero-budget indie film masquerading as a 'proper' movie. The story is about a single mother who moves into a new home and decides to experiment with a ouija board, which leads to her house becoming haunted by a poltergeist. It's all very ordinary and unremarkable, with poorly-written characters and the only claim to 'fame' the appearance of an actress who played one of the Midwich Cuckoos in VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED.

What a waste!
cirisortiz4 September 2021
This movie had all it takes for a really good horror movie about a Ouija board. It lasted less than 1 1/2 hours. By the end of the first half, I was ready to stop watching. I stayed on, hoping for an improvement. But, I can only describe it as tedious. Definition: too long, slow, dull, tiresome and monotonous. And, the two main female characters, mother and daughter, as brainless. The very ending explained something that had me wondering for quite a while.

Not the worst - as far as bad horror movies go
equatebytop25 February 2020
These other reviews are awfully harsh. I have seen far, far worse than this one. Let's be clear - this is a bad horror movie. It's not scary, rather a bit silly, but in that vein this one isn't all that bad.

Soundtrack is interesting and made a bold choice with some electronic stuff, but a bit out of place and overdone. Acting is not any worse than you would see in made-for-TV movies and the like. Writing is contrived and a bit boring.

But I'll tell you what, some of these scares made me laugh and genuinely surprised me at how silly they were. There is certainly a place and an audience for that so I'm not gonna slam this with 1 star because I thought I was gonna get The Exorcist or Evil Dead. If you're looking for some bad horror flicks to watch with drinks and friends or what have you, don't count this one out. Not necessarily the best in that regard though. 4/10

Warning: Spoilers
First, it has to be REALLY bad for me to award a 1-star rating... and this... THIS... is indeed REALLY BAD!

This must be one of THE worst films I've ever had the misfortune to see! How it received a 6.5 rating on IMDB I'll never know...! Noting also that there are only three reviews prior to mine (two of them rating low like me, and the other with no rating) there has to be something dodgy going on for a 6.5.

There are absolutely no redeeming features about this film, everything is so bad.

The acting is awful, the script/dialogue is atrocious, there is a completely inappropriate (and oh so annoying) soundtrack constantly being played in the background... and the story is simply FLAWED.

This movie can't seem to make up its mind what it wants to be. Is it a ghost movie, other supernatural, or is it a zombie film???

The irritating soundtrack tries to emulate "The Exorcist" (along with some of the horror effects and the sub-par make up), but it just doesn't work.

When they first find the board in the garden, they don't know what it is (EVERYONE knows of and, these days, can recognise a ouija board)! However, they know exactly how to use the thing! Also, the scalded baby... how ridiculous! In that particular scene/set up, the baby could ONLY possibly be *not scalded at all* or *100% completely scalded*, and yet it is shown later to have suffered a partial scalding.

However, the acting... oh my God, the acting. Where did they get these 'actors' and 'actresses' from??? Terrible, terrible acting.

Wanna watch this? Well, don't say I didn't warn you!

Dreadful

The rating so far is extraordinary high. Must be the casts votes!

As per previous comment. Music that belongs in the 70's, poor camera work and editing. Laughable horror scenes!

Sorry!

Background music 1000 decibels, voice overlay -1000 decibels. Probably the worst acting, worst script, worst storyline EVER... This is absolute drivel at its finest and should be showed as an instructional video on how not to make a low budget indie movie.

I'm not picking on the movie because it was obviously made on a shoestring budget as many movies have been made on next to nothing and produced great results. This is purely a lack of talent and creativity. Avoid at all costs

For every Yin there is a Yang.

Warning: Spoilers
Mungo the dog digs up an Ouija Board in India's (Lois Wilkinson) back yard. Car alarms go off, doors open, people die and disappear. The Board is said to be old Eastern European from the early 19th century, apparently before the board was invented. The multi-arm levitated woman on the cover is not in the film.

Low budget and boring.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

I have no clue what this turd is about. I warn you to keep your hands on the volume button on your remote. There is a funny part, when you see the idiot who don't know how to use a small step ladder. I'm going to use a British term for this mess, you should fly tip it (dump it).

Ouijageist, really?

Warning: Spoilers
I was hoping since this movie is English it would have a few redeeming qualities, but I should have known better when I saw the name of the movie. Someone really thought they were giving this movie a really scary title, but the only thing scary about this movie is watching it from beginning to end.

I always love it when movie characters act like they haven't heard of something everyone knows about. Who doesn't know what a spirit board is? What rock did this girl come from under. Yet, her not knowing what it is, is the catalyst for the rest of the movie. I really have a problem when characters are written stupidly just so they can further the plot.

Then comes the darn music. Man, they really thought they had something special there. It reminds me of the music from Halloween. It's not exactly alike, it more in how they use it. They play it through a lot of mundane scenes like Halloween, but it's too crappy to be anything more than extremely annoying. It comes to a point where they don't stop playing it. When a scene is supposed to be scary there should be some spooky music or some score to narrate the scene, but no, it's the darn music on repeat!

Let's just put it out there, it's crap, it's cheesy, it's poorly written and acted. It has no redeeming value. Although I really did enjoy the coffee exorcist scene.

What?

This is sooooo bad it will absolutely stun you! At one point I looked away for mere seconds and when I looked again, I thought another movie had started. Totally disjointed and full of unrelated storylines, you may continue to watch out of pure befuddlement but there are a hundred places in this movie you may want to turn it off at.

I admit to watching it all, but in a different kind of horror.....

Exorcist meets Poltergeist with a British twist
singhlall18 January 2022
Uniquely British combination of the Exorcist and Poltergeist with a very british sense of humour. Highlights include a horror obsessed Vicar, tea and Biscuits throughout. Well worth a watch. A strong cast and some decent laughs.

Watchable if somewhat flawed British supernatural effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder10 June 2020
Moving into a new house, a woman's discovery of a strange ouija board buried in her backyard and begins playing with it with a friend, but when a series of strange accidents and incidents befall her and her friends she learns the board game has released a deadly spirit into her life and must find a way to stop it.

This was a pretty solid and enjoyable effort. Among the films' better efforts is the fact that this one tends to introduce the malicious figure in their lives in a way that legitimately doesn't feel like anything out of the ordinary is going on. The sense that these are true accidents and mishaps, from the supernatural bump on the best friend to push her down the stairs which looks for all the world like a genuine fall down, the incident target her infant son with the scalding hot water and the scene of the dog running away scared all provide a reasonable grounding for the supernatural antics to later spread from. Those come into play at the film's best when the supernatural attacks become less realistic and more likely something physically intervening. The encounter at the coffee shop where the one individual drinks an entire cup of scalding hot coffee in one gulp before immediately spewing the entire thing back on her before shouting demonically and contorting their body in unnatural ways in front of the patrons is the first clue something's wrong, while the incidents with the repairman and the priest cement the idea that something is wrong. With the finale finally bringing some excitement involving possessed bodies and the full-force of the supernatural entities chasing her, this is fun and frantic enough to overcome some of the films' flaws. This one does have a few minor flaws. Among the biggest problems is the weird structuring of discovering the board in the backyard almost immediately but then forgetting about it to focus on outside activities. From the struggle to move in and get acclimated to the move, looking for work at the pet shop and dealing with the neighborhood kids for their actions, this one tends to take up tons of focus in the film on outside areas that are outside of the supernatural focus. With only the one sequence showing the game being played to ignite that possibility in the viewers it is entirely possible to forget that's the case with this one. The last flaw here is the general sluggish quality prominent here which takes a while for anything to happen. The tempo of everything is played out in the usual relaxed and laid-back manner of most British genre efforts where it takes everything in the same key without much variance at all so that incidents that should've resulted in more of a reaction is missed completely. As well, there's a lack of explanations for anything here since it takes so long for anything to happen, resulting in the finale feeling like all these strange incidents are occurring suddenly with no build-up due to the weird pacing. These are what drag the film down somewhat.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Language, children-in-jeopardy and animal violence.
