Spirit of John Hughes.

Starts off a little slow, nearly gave up on it. Unable to sleep I persevered and I'm glad a did. Not overlong, and, if it's predictable that's ok. There's a lot worse out there.

Decent comedy
Stovepipe9921 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When I pick a film off of Amazon Prime having never heard of it before, I always go in with lowered expectations. From time to time I'm pleasantly surprised and this was one of those cases.

The film follows two men, Marlon and Leo, who break into a home in a gated community, only to find themselves trapped inside with a woman, Darcy, who has her own reasons for being in the house.

On the positive side of things, all of the actors did really well with their line delivery, which elevates the writing. Matt Jones has a voice that reminds me of Jake Johnson, with that very dry humor, and the actress playing Darcy also had a very good deadpan delivery. There were also a few well done scenes of physical comedy. Given that the film basically only has the three characters, it does enough dynamic things with them (and the runtime is short enough!) that you don't really get tired of them.

On the downside, the film lacks any actual compelling emotional center. The heart of the film really has to do with Leo getting over his ex-fiance, and I cannot emphasize enough how totally boring this element was for me. The ex-fiance is basically absent from the film, so we depend entirely on Leo telling us how much he loved her. It just isn't interesting, and the conflict it generates between the characters is underwhelming. I wish the writers had found a different way to create tension between the three main characters. I also didn't particularly care for the way that the film developed the relationship between Darcy and Leo--the writers go with the trope of the "nice guy" who deserves to have a woman be in love with him and I just find it to be an annoying cliche. Darcy's character is very quirky and I didn't find her attraction to Leo to be very believable.

This movie moves along at a good pace, it has several well-delivered, funny lines, and the actors generally have good rapport. It is certainly stronger in the first half and loses its way a bit in the second half. The actors do a good job of delivering their lines and keeping the energy of the film up. This isn't a movie I ever see myself rewatching, but I think it's worthy of a viewing.

A good funny movie.
draciron24 July 2023
This is a great idea for a movie and especially in the beginning it rolls along really well. The running gags are one of the best parts of the movie. It's the times between where they take themselves a bit too serious that slow it down. That and it's difficult to really fully get into a movie where the criminals leave so much evidence that they might as well sign their names on a guest register. They really miss an opportunity to install yet more humor in having the criminals try to clean up the evidence with the same incompetence they left it with. All in all a good movie, just not a great movie. Unlike so many modern comedies the humor isn't just slapstick and the laughs are scattered all through the movie. Most modern comedies you can watch 2 minutes of the movie and get 99% of the laughs and those 2 minutes are usually about 30 to 40 minutes into the movie. This one has laughs from start to finish.

A comedy that keeps on surprising
Gordon-1113 December 2017
This film tells the story of two men who decides to break into a house and steal things while the occupants were out of town. However, unexpected things occur within minutes of their break in, and their seemingly ingenious plan is completely derailed.

Most of the film occurs in a single house, but it does not feel boring or monotonous because the house is absolutely beautiful. The three characters are really funny. The story keeps on giving surprises, and it is really fun to watch. The subplot about a waterfall is engaging, because it adds an emotional layer to the story, and prevents it from being just a silly comedy. I enjoyed it.

A Bad Idea Half Gone Wrong
zalouteacher2 December 2017
I just watched this movie and I had a mixed feeling about it on whether to classify it, as the French people say, as a navet or just another brick in the wall of normal movies. One thing that I didn't like about the movie is stupidifying actors to a level that it becomes really démodé because if comedy scenes don't build up on a natural increasing curve, they will certainly cause the watcher to switch off and roll over their eyes. The movie also deserves some honorable mentions such as the plot and the good acting of Marlon (Matt L. Jones) whom I enjoyed looking at his manners and physiognomy and my eyes was glazing over for the cartoon-based stupid acts he may have to do.

A Good Idea Gone Right
cahidi16 August 2022
The first time I read the synopsis, I got interested right away. And boy, it's not a bad rom-com. Not bad at all! It's cute, sweet, and at certain part kinda heartbreaking. This movie is the proof that low budget can make a good movie too.

Awful film, and about as funny as my left elbow. Very lame.

Not that bad an idea
tanujpoddar17 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
When I decided to watch this movie, I knew it wasn't gonna be great. All I was hoping for, was that it wasn't a plotless comedy with listless acting and lame jokes. Thankfully it wasn't. While there isn't much in the movie, as it is shot pretty much within a house, it still kept me engaged. It was well paced, though could have a bit shorter. Yeah, there are a few scenes showing the lameness of Marlon and the uncalled for relationship between Leo and Darcy, but that is just to pull the plot past an hour. But overall the comedy is subtle and entertaining, hinting at the quirkiness of each character. Its not like a dumb and dumber type of comedy. While nothing great, certainly doesn't leave me with a sense of regret, like some other films in this genre.

With my eyes closed
writenurse18 June 2023
I could have written this mess in about an hour. There is simply nothing original or fresh in this hackneyed attempt at comedy.

Neither of the mains can perform without some major cuing. On top of that, the femme lead is a compilation of the absolute worst ladies in the genre. All big eyes and flippy hair, there is a definite lack of genuine feel for comedy. She had to have every line fed to her or she just couldn't deliver the tags.

I thought the overall concept could have had at least a few laugh out loud parts, but it was as cookie cutter an idea as I believe it is possible to create. They took a concept and turned it into slush. This isn't comedy. This is a snore fest. At least I had a good nap.

A good comedy.
SashaDarko5 December 2017
A story about cringeworthy burglary acted by two no-so-smart thieves, which probably weren't thieves before at all (and their motives are pretty weak too, to be honest). Not a laugh-out-loud type of comedy that's for sure, but it should make you chuckle here and there. The pacing is perfect (it's never boring), the cast is right and the actors deliver their lines just perfectly, with lots of charisma. No truly dumb jokes, no "ass" jokes, just a somewhat old school lighthearted comedy.

It's also on the "lightey" side when it comes to the plot and very far from being realistic, with the last scenes going completely "coockoo" and being not believable at all. Still a good entertaining movie which is just pleasant to watch.

wonderful surprise
migueljunadvincula12 March 2018
I was at work yesterday and, as usual, i got bored out of my mind (don't tell anyone), so i decided to watch this movie. i set my expectations pretty low because it was just to pass the time but, lo and behold, i was pleasantly surprised by how great the movie was. this is an independent film through and through, as there's basically just three people interacting with each other the whole time, but what it lacked in budget it more than made up for with an excellent little comedy that trumps most of what's out there today in the same genre. the cast turned in great performances, especially Matt Jones,Will Rogers' character was totally identifiable (at least he was to me) and Eleanore Pienta was perfect for her role.

i don't do movie reviews as a norm, as there are enough people out there doing it, but i just had to try and give this little gem a boost in order to get more people to watch it and have a wonderful surprise like i had watching it.

A lovely comedy
radurestivan1 December 2017
A lovely comedy to watch on a rainy day. It's that type of movie that you can easily relate with. I usually like pure comedies (big fan of Shaun of the Dead, for example) and this one didn't disappoint me. Could lighten up your day, as the jokes were funny and natural. The actors are cute. Would totally recommend this movie.

Utterly enjoyable and memorable comedy
carlos-pires17 January 2019
To be honest, the first few minutes felt kind of lame, but this soon turned out to be a very entertaining 80 minutes, filled with a zany situation competently enacted by what turned out to be a good trio of performers. The story and script are for the most part unbelievable, but since I was offered a book titled "What's the number for 911?" I believe that anything is possible in the USA, and so it didn't felt that outlandish of a plot. The dialog, direction, editing, and pacing are just right, and all contribute to a nicely wrapped up package in the end. Matt Jones turns out to be the weakest link in the trio, although he does a competent job of it, while Will Rogers delivers a near-perfect performance for the role. As for Eleanore Pienta, her performance is natural and utterly believable, showing she is a very promising actress. I wish we could see her perform in other movies. Overall, I would say this is a very entertaining situational comedy with no great aspirations but that overdelivers in almost every aspect (a thin budget always shows). I wish the director gets a chance to do more.

Badger's Next Move
leftbanker-13 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
OK, a Ten Star Review? A bit inflated but I was just so relieved to not be watching a total piece of garbage that I had to boost this one up. In its defense, I found the movie to be completely entertaining from start to finish. You also have to consider how little this film probably cost to make when comparing its entertainment value against what passes for blockbusters today. This has a couple scenes in a dinner and then the rest is inside of a house with three actors. Bravo for that.

They should just bill this as a Breaking Bad spin-off with one of its most beloved characters trying to get by after his meth slinging days. He's even worse and burgling house than he was at selling dope but he's still a funny guy and the same exact character he was in the series. His cuckolded friend is a wet blanket and not funny at all so Badger has to do almost all of the heavy lifting in this movie.

The girl they interrupt hanging out in the house does a great job of playing the sexy uninvited, vaguely-criminal house guest. And she's just the exact right amount of sexy; she's not bombshell Hollywood gorgeous, just very attractive. She's also the brains of the bunch.

The movie was laugh-out-loud (yeah, you can and should write that out) funny many times. For example:

  • I kissed my step-mom. She was asleep.

  • Did she wake up? - Yeah.

  • OK, you win.

  • Do I, though?

A tale of two burglars
jma_be2 December 2017
If you are sitting bored and really need something to cheer you up, then this one is for you. A simple comedy movie with some romantic seasoning. The cast was perfect, beautiful Eleanore Pienta and the confused Will Rogers and ever shining Matt. You could say there are loop holes in the plot. But in the end you will still want more of this.

a really great original movie
meanolddrunk-81-9036231 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
i don't want to leave spoilers, as this is fantastic movie. Matt Jones, Will Rogers, and Eleanore Pienta, are exceptional in this movie. again i don't want to spoil the show for you(it really worth watching to the end),....its basically a bungled burglary... with....( i really want to tell you, but its a great movie just watch it. the concept, to the story,to the actors, it was a well planned out. and the ending, well you had an idea halfway thru. but it was cemented at the end in a romantic way. it leaves me wishing for the slight hope of "another bad idea gone wrong" (wink wink nudge nudge say no more)

Should have titled: The Idea of Adulthood
debi-1321 June 2019
I really liked this movie. My only criticism is that the dialogue fits women as well. Many of the conversations I have had with my best (female) friend. Especially the ones surrounding the differences of perspective centering on single and married life. This was an intelligent movie presented in every day language with surges of emotion that felt authentic and realistic. Bravo!

Surprise! ...
shatguintruo20 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The opening scene of this film is surprising: it was thought to be a film of ultra violence... Screen goes dark... Next scene: a very interesting dialogue between the two main characters, and soon after, a third one enters the scene character, in quick appearance... Then you can see that it's a comedy between pseudo thieves, beyond clumsy... This opening scene is in a restaurant called Ol'South Pancake House, similar to so many other Cafeterias in the States. .. Several surprises are in the course of the film, for example: another pseudo thief (Darcy played by Eleanore Pienta - masterful interpretation) found in the mansion of the current fiancé of one of the pseudo thieves (Leo played magnificently by Will Rogers). Cinematography (Nathan Smith) great and excellent editing by Tim Fender.

Excellent movie - and here's one more note: exact time for the writers, producers and especially the director (Jason Headley) to deliver the "message"... My vote is 9 on a scale of 1 to 10.
