To prepare for the role of Élodie, Anne Parillaud spent a considerable amount of time watching candid "video diary" footage of real-life Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis patients in order to glean as much information on the psychological impact of these conditions.
The abstract footage of the oven that opens the film was supposed to be shot on location during principal photography but director Alastair Clayton actually ended up shooting this separately in his own house because on the first morning of shooting, the oven at the location's light went out.
The film playing in Élodie's flat is Pier Pressure, also directed by Alastair Clayton. Listening carefully, one can hear the character of "Maria" in the film speak the line "I can't live my life like this, I have to make a change". This was specifically chosen to tie in with the way Élodie is feeling herself.
The photograph Élodie treasures throughout the film was taken in London 2 weeks before shooting, sort of... Anne and the film's producer, David Youds were photographed together outside St. Pancras International Station with their "daughter" being photographed some days later in Surrey and composited together.
There are three market stalls featured in the final scene of the film, one of them is manned by the director's father Graham and the other is manned by the film's screenwriter Isla Ure. Various members of the production crew are seen milling around the market and buying goods also including Production Co-ordinators Francesca Worthington and Katie Penfold.
