But this was essentially a pointless movie...
paul_haakonsen3 December 2019
Right, well this 2019 movie is listed as a fantasy, horror and sci-fi movie, and yeah it does have elements of all three, but it hardly made for an entertaining movie.

I had no idea what I was in for when I sat down to watch the 2019 movie from writers Barry W. Levy and Helenna Santos. So I entered the movie with an open mind. Turns out that I was in for a prolonged ordeal of a movie at the hands of director Barry W. Levy.

I can honestly say that I have little or no clue as to what the purpose of the storyline in the movie was. It felt like director Barry W. Levy just made up things as filming progressed.

As for the acting in the movie, well it was adequate performances, especially when you take into consideration that the actresses had virtually next to nothing to work with in terms of script, storyline and characters. In fact, I just finished watching the movie, and I can't honestly name a single of the characters in the movie by name. Yeah, the characters were that pointless, bland and nonessential.

I suffered through the entire movie without an ounce of enjoyment falling from the stem of the movie and into my lap. Why I endured the entire movie, was solely because I wanted to see if just a little bit of any worth or interest would eventually happen throughout the course of the entire movie. I didn't!

I am rating "The Shasta Triangle" a mere three out of ten stars, and the reason for it getting three and not just one is solely because of the production value that the movie has to it. It definitely feels like a proper movie and the spirit behind it was there. Just a shame that the executed was botched by having nothing in terms of storyline and characters.

There are far better mystical movies out there if you enjoy a good thrill. There really is no reason for you to sit down and suffer through the ordeal that is known as "The Shasta Triangle".

Lame and uninteresting with fake reviews
mjsreg8 December 2019
You can be sure that the reviews on here over 5 are fake.

I don't know why idiots do that. It makes the film seem worse through desperation to get the IMDB rating up.

Just accept the fact that this movie is pretty terrible.

The acting is very one dimensional - which is surprising considering that the actors have some experience behind them.

it must be poor directing and story, because the majority of the film (apart from a few seconds) is the five main characters in some kind of angst (expressed in much the same way each time) with far too many cut shots between them (which will probably give you a headache) - and that is it.

100% this film isn't worth your time.

Cast and crew reviews
ant36au13 February 2020
They must have paid the cast and crew a bonus to post glowing reviews on this pile of **** movie, most of the reviewers are one time posters just for this movie which immediately tells you just how bad it is. The acting, whilst not the worst I've seen,is awful, the only convincing thing about it is how these girls fall apart repeatedly in a crisis and resort to being nasty to each other, strong female leads they are not contrary to the fake reviewers suggestions that they are, with friends like these you don't need enemies, the camera work is shoddy and looks like a shaky twelve year old is holding his phone up to film, the story line is pathetic, doesn't hold up and just all over the place until eventually the film just goes..well....nowhere,that's right,it just ends,no real explanations for anything or anyone,it just ends,it was just an awful movie from start to finish and I really struggled to get trough to the end in order to write a real review.

Who wrote this garbage? I thought child labour was illegal? The bit were they all turn up one after the other in separate cars is so bad it's hilarious. Women acting like teens, arguing and sniping constantly.

I was looking forward to a good sci-fi but instead I got mary & ashley olsen & friends go into the woods.

Ignore Any Reviews from 4 December they're fake. This movie is a stinker
future_release3 December 2019
** Edit After I wrote my review a whole spate of positive 9s and 10s came through all at once. Fake!!!

This has to be one of the most convoluted stories in any film.

The script, development of the story and the VFX are dire.

The acting is generally ok. but not all, some stinkers too.

You won't feel like you've missed anything if you give this a pass.

Garbage, reviews & a waste of time
paulcuffaro-1716318 March 2020
This movie deserves nothing more than a garbage score for a garbage movie. I've stood by many low budget films that I have turned out to live, this was complete and absolutely awful. The acting was horrible, boring cinematography, multiple shots look dubbed and most importantly, the plot went NOWHERE. There was not one redeeming quality about this film. No questiones were answered, plot holes left right and centre, and it failed to come to a conclusion that made any sense. Top 10 worst ending in existence. Any reviews above 3 on this movie are fake, if you really don't believe me, save your money and pirate this hunk of trash and get ready to throw away the next hour and 15 minutes.

Five b... eautiful ladies lost in the woods
permaculture-4588522 January 2020
Ludicrous piece of garbage : Five school friends lost in the woods looking for the disappeared father of one. The pseudo scientific mumbo jumbo - of course with Egyptian crap in it, the whole written in an Indiana Jones style - was stupid. Reminded me of Yellow Brick Road, except that YBR was good. I've paused the movie at 00:48. Now resuming.

So many fake reviews!!
georgewakeling19 December 2019
I never wrote a review but just had too take a bit of time to warn potential watchers. I watched this movie based on reviews here. Bad move!! More than 40 minutes of this movie is pointless talk between the actors and a lot of bitching. Not a great idea to cast only women to see them behave like teenagers. Woman deserve more! As for the acting, it's less than so so... The cinematography is bad. The plot takes totally illogical turns in the last 10 minutes. Their are critical pieces of the puzzle that are never addressed. The story telling is bad!! I give it one star for the concept. This movie could have been sooooo much more, even on a low budget.

Don't Fall for False Reviews !
waqas4551 January 2020
Don't waste your time seeing this crap! Poor story. Useless casting. Pathetic direction. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! All reviews who gave 8,9 or 10 ratings must be the team members of production.

Dont waste your time!!! FALSE RATINGS!!!

Really surprised!!!
chrisasaurus-14 December 2019
I don't love low budget sci-fi flicks cause they usually just let you down with shoddy FX and failed attempts at cinematic moments but- Not this flick! This film has an incredible emotional center, Some damned solid acting and moments that just draw you in. I can't recommend it enough. Sure it is lower budget but you never even notice when the story takes over. It's films like this that got me excited about cinema when I was young. Little movies that could and this film really CAN! I cannot recommend this film enough.

Interesting concept, beautifully shot
hollystanford14 December 2019
I found the concept of this film to be very interesting, and despite some reviews on vfx, for it being what I assume is a micro budget indie with a sub $250k budget, they're pretty good. The camera work was really beautiful, especially the drone shots which provide an expansive feeling to the forest setting. I'd like to see what could be done with this story on a budget it deserves, and see how the character development could also expand in that arena, as I was hungry to understand the father-daughter dynamic more than the friendships between the primary and secondary characters. I feel that with a longer story and runtime aligned with most features (perhaps 90 minutes), some key plot points could have been further clarified and developed. Overall, I think it was a great microbudget effort and could see this on SyFy.

Don't even have a reason for 2 stars.
Arnokk15 December 2019
I went into this movie without reading any reviews so with a fairly open mind. The concept of the movie sounded interesting but a few minutes in I realized how boring this movie is. There are scenes with excessively long and boring discussion about totally uninteresting and unrelated things to the movie. The bad acting is really bothersome, not to mention the post recorded audio. Multiple times while watching this movie I just broke out in laughter at how bad it is. Do not recommend watching it, waste of time.

Mishmash that could have worked
dielangkat8 December 2019
There is something to this movie that could have worked. Sadly it didn't. A lack of coherence and building a story line makes it feel as if it was conceptualized as it went on. The acting just didn't carry it through. Moments of promise to be destroyed by the next moment of mehness. I think "cut" and "retake" were foreign concepts to the director. Sorry, but this "good enough " is just not good enough. Sad, really, as good directing could have made it so much better. Some good cinematography in a few places. Kudos to the drone camera work. But in all, it ends like an old stale biscuit. The "great" reviews are mostly by new imdb accounts. Not too difficult to decipher this phenomenon. I wish they would do something about this. Really spoils the validity, doesn't it?

Half-baked Idea.. that someone probably wrote while half-baked.
temptedblaze16 October 2022
I'm not really sure what to say about this movie but I feel like I need to review it because it's uniquely awful. The concept was pretty good but it ends up just falling really flat. The whole thing felt very rushed and you can tell there was no budget. While the concept is there, the story does not reflect that. It's very poorly written and there are a lot of things that are never explained. Then at the end it just.. ends.. Super abruptly and with no real finish.

The lines felt super faked and not genuine in the slightest. It was like it was people who aren't actors, doing a first time read through of the script. Also, the sound wasn't cohesive.. like it wasn't mixed or leveled properly. I'm not sure how to say it cause I don't know much about sound, but I know it was poorly done.

All the women are gorgeous but they don't really have any personality or substance. They're just catty for the sake of being catty as a weird plot point or something. I don't know how to explain it. It seems like a man trying to write women.. but hasn't actually ever spent time around women before doing so?

The special effects are really bad.

I watched it because it was said to be a horror film but there aren't really any elements of horror involved. I like sci-fi and fantasy as well, but this just wasn't it.

Mishmash that could have worked... But didn't
eyefordetail11 December 2019
There is something to this movie that could have worked. Hence the "2" rating. 1 for bad and 1 for nice try. Sadly, it didn't work. A lack of coherence and building a story-line makes it feel as if it was conceptualized as it went on. The acting just didn't carry it through. Moments of promise were destroyed by the next moment of mehness. I think "cut" and "retake" were foreign concepts to the director. Sorry, but this "good enough" is just not good enough. Dissatisfied
pshawnallen-733179 March 2024
While I was sifting through the channel guide. I came across this movie because I was interested in finding and watching a good SciFi movie that could be alien related. But what I found was this, and it appeared that this was going to be a really great movie. However, what I've seen to have found was that it was good only in 5 seconds increments but it left you with no answers to any of the questions in each segment. I also found that the acting was bad with added chaos from the voice sound editing. Certain segments are clearly voiced in a sound booth with bad blending of voice audio to the adjacent segments. The cinematography also was bad, like someone else said it seemed 12 year olds were controlling the cameras. The editing, wow was horrible. Why did they write this! It seems like this movie was rushed for someone for a low budget system, that's trying to make a name for themselves. This is bad. Don't waste your time.

A Good Concept That Falls Short Mainly Because of Dialogue
jdowney-57-37115716 April 2022
I like Sci-fi and Horror genres, so I like to see what lower budget productions do to get by their limitations. I think here director Barry Levy does nothing to discredit himself. He gets a good feel of basic dread and horror from sound and some grey woods. The special effects are limited, but mostly they effectively convey what is needed .

There are a lot of scenes that fade to black, and a lot establishing shots of snails and spiders. That works against him. I wish he had been more creative with those.

The concept of the story is pretty strong. A young woman who's father disappeared while conducting a science experiment in the woods of her home town, returns years later armed with his notes, hoping to recreate the scenario that made him disappear. That's pretty classic Sci-Fi right there, and the explanations work, seem Sci-Fi reasonable enough and the idea supports a movie.

The shorter run time helps in that the story stays relatively focused and it doesn't take any off-ramps or distractions, so I stayed engaged enough. But what hurt was too little story time in clarifying the motives and story behind what ultimately turns out to be the bad-guys. They could have been super-cool, but instead we are left more with a WTF type of feeling.

I'm not sure that I would blame any of the actresses for what doesn't work in this movie. Overall, the problems seem more with the specific dialogue and the lack of depth and personality of the characters.

At the start of the movie we get a somewhat drawn out explanation of each character as they arrive at the entrance to the woods. They all know each other from having grown up in the town of Shasta. One is disliked, one is a little off, one is just there, and then there is the heroine and her police-lady buddy. I think the script failed to give each character enough weight to allow us to classify them in standard movie horror tropes.

Ayanna Berkshire stand out as the Police. She is armed, she has her wits about her, and she has the role of the faithful sidekick. We know who her character is supposed to be and it works. Dani Lennon, Madeline Merritt. Deborah Lee Smith do less well because the characters they play are either not well-defined as a trope, or just not given enough to clue us in. Is Lennon a brave and determined girl seeking answers, or just a confused twit? I couldn't tell. Madeline Merritt acts fine, but isn't given much to say or do. Smith, seemed to be the extra guy beamed down with Spock and Kirk to get killed off. She plays a nerdy neurotic and is meant to be a little annoying. I wish any of them had some better moments to show us what they could do. Helenna Santos plays the Mean Girl who we are meant to hate, but she is also smart. She gives a decent performance, but she should have been a villain, and ultimately her role is written too vaguely for it to fit our expectations. If each character had a more defined purpose and personality it probably would have worked better. Instead everyone except Berkshire just come off as a little insipid.

The story ends with a good twist regarding our heroine, but again a little more time spend in that dimension solidifying at least whether her Father was a Good guy or some kind of Bad guy, or what? We are kind of left in the WTF was that state again.

And then at the end, we get one last curve ball thrown at us, which is classic Sci-fi and it worked.

This is not a great movie, it is a low budget horror movie. In terms of that, there are some good parts here, overall tone and concept are good. A few more scenes and more adherence to character development in standard sci-fi tropes would have helped it.

Great SciFi movie!
thebandyuca4 December 2019
I am a sucker for anything sci-fi + thriller so really enjoyed this movie right from the start. I loved the story, the scenery and loved it was an all women cast! The Shasta Triangle definitely takes indie films to the next level and I love that. Well done!!

The film opens like we're about to embark on a classic X-Files episode mixed with Stargate SG-1 and it delivers on that tone. Some great moments for lovers of indie SciFi films.

Wasn't sure if a movie with 5 women in the woods would work for me, especially a scifi one but this really works. Good believable characters I felt like I knew and the story was original and surprising. I recommend it.
