No, no . . . not correctly diagnosed. Oh dear.

Acoustic neuromas are benign tumors. I.e., non-life-threatening. NF is treatable; for tumors on the left side only and post-surgery, she may lose hearing ONLY on the left side. She can still hear normally on the right, though some binaural (two-eared) abilities (localizing a sound source, e.g.) are forever changed if one side is gone. Thus, an error in Dx, probably for dramatic effect, which is fine. On the second review of this episode, I just noticed they are operating on her RIGHT ear!!!! That's a goof not noted; I have no success in making editorial corrections, so this will have to do.

And . . . However, in all the many years I worked w/ hearing-impaired people, the interactions with musicians who lost any aspect or portion of their hearing were some of the saddest/toughest moments . . . For both me and the patient!

Real medical people?

I'm surprised any doctor or nurse would not comb her hair back and secure it away from her face. I find this very strange. There are other episodes in which "Dr Manning" has done this, and it's unrealistic. Good thing she's no longer on the show in 2023! I have noticed, though, that this silliness was corrected after a few episodes.

It's also a bit strange that so many doctors don't shave! It's one thing to have a long shift and not have time, but episode after episode? All the real doctors I've ever seen are either clean-shaven (thank you, Dr Choi and Dr Charles) or they grow and take care of well taken care of beards.

The fallen chandelier would be covered under worker's comp insurance and there would have been no copays. I would have expected writers to have research departments on more than just medical diagnoses and treatments.

Great episode overall. Note on the music student.

Great episode overall.

The music student for which Dr. Manning gives a consult is said to have left sided hearing loss among other complaints which turns out to be acoustic neuroma on CT. But when she is operated towards the end of the episode, they are operating on the right side. They removed partial scalp hair from right temporal side. but her defect was on the left if I am not mistaken. Plus, it is not how a tuning fork test is usually done. (I could be wrong) All the actors playing doctors are cool. (especially Dr. Reese character) I hope this show fills the void left by Dr. House show.
