Good effort but with flaws.

Chhello Divas (2015) Directed by Krishnadev Yagnik is a light hearted comedy movie with some really good punches. The movie revolves around college life of eight friends and their journey of their graduation.

This is my first review for a Gujarati movie. I think Gujarati cinema is becoming a mainstream cinema and taking steps forward with big budget films and a full-fledged theatrical releases all over India after Kevi Rite Jaish and Bey Yaar.

Talking about this movie, had enjoyed a lot while watching and relive that college time memories again. The dialouges are truly gujju which will be stay back with you till long as you can relate them with the day to day situation.

When we talk about the technical aspect there are some flaws in the movie, the background score was too over and some scenes looks too over dramatic because of that.Acting was brilliant by all lead actors except Loy (Mitra Gadhvi) in some scenes.

Overall it was a brilliant effort to make such a good cinema. Will look forward for more good movies from this industry.

And yes that dialouge is an epic one... Te mara mate coffee kem mangayi??

Laughter riot guaranteed

When u sit for this movie just don't think about cinematic norms. Only thing you should be concerned about is laugh and this one laugh you like hell. Don't expect any mind blowing story coz it doesn't have any. Just some random moment of one friend circle which are downright hilarious. Some may feel this is over the top stuff but if u wanna laugh just forget everything and enjoy the sequences. You won't be disappointed.

Fully entertainer Gujarati movie.

This movie is fully based on the college life and story of 4 friends , their routine life and how they enjoy all moments of life just by chilling everything.

There is nothing like story in this movie, the different situations are merged only , but how the writer merged all scenes ,its really appreciable.

The acting of all actors is classic , the chemistry of Yash Soni and Janki Bodiwala sounds good.

If you are college students, then you will enjoy a lot with your buddies.

And you already passed the college, then i m damn sure, you will surly remember your college days , if you enjoyed your college life.

Dialogs of Mayur Chauhan are stunning.

yes, regular watchers may not like this kind of movie.

yes, i suggest you to watch this movie with your buddies, because some local conversation , you can't be comfortable with your parents.

Hats off to these entertainers.

Now let us take a quick review of the star-cast (which is quite a long one but that is the beauty of college life). Writing about them in a random order.

Malhar Thakar – He plays the role of that guy who was the cause of everyone's jealousy in college. That guy who hits on a lot of girls and is successful in converting many of them. His affair with the tuition teacher was a bit unrealistic, but e t l u t o h c h a l e! The next time I meet him, I will ask him to drive the car safely. You will understand this after you watch the film 😉 Aarjav Trivedi – He is the Hulk Hogan of this film. The guy who would react impulsively to every situation and his muscle power ensures you do not take any 'panga' with him. His character is quite an engaging one and will create ripples of humor, at the most unexpected moments. Prapti Ajwalia – Though in a short role, her character will be remembered every time you remember this film. Her dialogue which is longer than the most boring assignment, will make your jaws to pain, and you wouldn't even realize it! Her expressions are in sync with what she says and this adds up to the fun. Mayur Chauhan – If you haven't been to the semi-urban or rural parts of our state, you will have a tough time to understand what his character says in the film. But hey, that is okay, because you wouldn't have the time to decipher it. He will make sure you keep on laughing on things that even bounce off your head. He should have got more screen presence, afterall, kaafi interesting character chhe. Rahul Raval – He plays the 'Susheel Ladka' role and is quite successful in it. With the physique and height he has, it is expected that he will be the Rambo man of the group, but the ball goes for a googly. And a well bowled one at that! Kinjal Rajpriya – The most unexpected character, especially after watching her parents' in the film. And she manages to keep your attention since her entry in the film. Her transformation from the homely lady to Malhar's girlfriend is quite a fast one, and she plays it well to make you live this. Mitra Gadhvi – His character is seen in every college group and if you are in an engineering college, there will be two or three of this kind. Mitra will make you remember those friends of yours clearly. His pranks are a bit dangerous and his singlehood is inevitable, but you will enjoy them both! Netri Trivedi – The delicate darling of the group who visits the hospital for innocent reasons, her character is a moving one. The film is incomplete without her bandages which bring in a lot of laughter. Wouldn't be surprised if she comes off as the main lead in the films ahead. Janki Bodiwala – Since her entry to her every dialogue, you fall for this character. Her voice is charming and her looks are appealing. Though the premier show went on smoothly, the public shows will see whistles and hoots with her screen presence. She has justified her role, but the question still remains – how did she make it to Yash's midnight birthday bash? Yash? Aa kaun chhe? This blog will be incomplete without him. So well, here you go. Yash Soni has mesmerized all with his role and screen presence. He is the perfect combination of expressions, humor and dialogue delivery that you will miss him when he is not on the screen. He will emerge as the heart-throb sensation for a lot of college girls and if you are in a relationship, you would not want your girlfriend to add him on Facebook! Not that Yash has the time for it after this film, but risk shu kaam levu chhe?

IF YOU ARE GUJARATI... Why to waste money behind nonsense Bollywood movies?

For past few years there have been few Gujarati movies which has changed the way Gujarati movies were for almost a decade (or I guess always).

All my childhood Gujarati movies were mostly based on famous Gujarati novels or Mythologies.

Then came this era where people were going to see the stars instead the story. And during this era the viewers viewed only boring movies (mostly).

But the after the "Kevi Rite Jais" movie, I thing the Gujarati cinema took a turn (towards the good).

Seen the movie "Be Yaar" and "Gujjubhai" recently. And, I think, this one is even better.

Don't take your kids with you because the comedy is for adults mostly. But, a must watch movie if:

you like comedies

you are Gujarati

and, you are already bored with Bollywood comedies

Just go and watch this.

My money was not wasted. Excellent.

Fantastical Funny - A must watch for all Gujjus

What a fun and beautiful movie it is! It takes you inside the screen and make you feel realistic. Specially as a Gujarati this movie would break record of box-office collection of all previous Gujarati movies and will run for longest period for sure. The presentation of the movie is so natural and realistic that you will fall in love with the cast and you will feel real characters of yours or your friends on reels:) 2 hours of continuous laughing exercise :D In gujarati I would say "Exactly maja kari" :)

Superb casting, Fantastic screen play, Excellent Dialogues and hilariously funny - you will not stop laughing for even 1 minute!!

Go gujjus go for it, you will not regret for sure :)

If u consider psychology, the movie is perfect.................. Batter than any college life movie................ We have enjoy all the movies like 3 idiots, student of the year, but now I guess the best one is 'CHHELLO DIVAS'..................... No emergency airplane landing, No vacuum delivery, No unnecessary things, Be straight for college people mentality................ Which kind of mentality in college life, which kind of students in college, which kind of principal-professors are also there, which kind of incidents in classrooms-canteen-home-cafeteria are also there............... I am very happy with this movie. I think this movie will change craze and thinking of negative people. Chappad Fatake Movie directed by all team hard work. I appreciate to all team of movie maker and I am specially big fan of janki bodiwala wow what a beauty and what a entry in this film and bit all dialog and each scene like very funny and contact performed comedy role. that is oh my god. First time ever I laughed very much very freedom without hesitate with my wife in cinema and I spend movie ticket without think what is ticket price because I don't know why i spend but I was thinking we need to grow up our Gujarati movie craze in the next generation I hope keep it up in future like this movie more more more .......... Generally we spend waste money and waste time for Bollywood and Hollywood movies. If People thinking change in new direction differently will ahead one step. Bollywood and Tollywood should be jealous our movies. Now enough we bore same story, love story, mixing confusion movie in bollywood. Chhelo Divas Strongly recommended to all Gujarati-an go to watch. You will say that's movie original comedy this is not copy.

Chhello Divas (2015) : Brief Review -

A wholesome entertainer from nostalgic College days which lacks cinematic intelligence. Chhello Divas is a teenage drama full of laught riots, full of nostalgia and full of fun. The film is about a group of friends studying in senior college, how they enjoy their college days, how they fool their teachers, how they trick each other for trolls, the love story, flirting and what not, it's almost everything that all of us have done in college days. There is no message, thoughtful segments or intellectual portion in the film which makes it apart from quality film tag. Although, it has one final speech in the climax which is bit emotional but the fact is whatever is said in the speech hadn't actually happened in the film. This is where the cinematic intelligence falls short, and by margin. You see, the speech is about how we enjoyed those days and how we are gonna miss it but the visual surrounding of it is something different, i mean totally irrelevant. I mean the 2 minutes speech itself sounds more intelligent than the entire 130 minutes narrative, how absurd it is. Anyways, it was made for fun and nostalgic experience where it provides a lot, you will laugh, you will recall those memories and you might even get emotional. Coming from regional cinema, Chello Divas is more a local film with local humour which is why it is a top notch film but the disadvantage is the pan India audience may not enjoy the same local humour like local audience did. Overall, it's a good entertainer and nothing else so it's a good popcorn flick but if you're looking for some quality and content oriented cinema then you don't get it here. For that we have some quality classics in Bollywood and Marathi Cinema, if you haven't seen it yet. Chhello Divas is Nice and Enjoyable but not a quality stuff.

Innovative Gujarati Movie

Offbeat Gujarati Movie

It is indeed a concept that would be appreciated by many people who know Gujarati language and are fond of watching Gujarati movie.

In the wilderness of "Hatke Gujarati Movie" this kind of movie gives enjoyment throughout the two and half hours.

Though the movie is circling around College Friends, (their carelessness for life apart from their friendship) mostly all age groups will admire the humor shown in the film.

Director and Story writer Mr.Yagnik and his entire team left nothing behind to show such interesting concept, and I really appreciate the team for the entire hard work they did to get this result.

My biggest surprise was "Entire Star Cast" whom I have never seen on any major platform of Cinema except 1 or 2.

The last thing for the creators of 'Chello Divas" when is next? In anticipation to witness you soon with another wonderful concept.

Thanks for the breathtaking exhibition of college days of life.

Personal clarification: I cried and I laughed so much that my jaw pained for 2 -3 hours.

Chello divas-Can be better situational comedy than cheap on amdavadi college life.

very good effort to make such Gujarati movie. acting of all actors are good. storyline of amdavadi college life is very weak. director has shown very cheap and very vulgar side of amdavadi collegians. there are many situation in colleges that can create very good comedy. but director has chosen short cut to make laugh on public face by such vulgar and cheap comedy. And there is big potential in amdavadi and Gujarati college life to direct nice comedy film but they didn't do it. It shows that Director has very weak and less research work on amdavadi college life. I have really made mistake that I went to watch movie with my parents and my little children with expectation of nice storyline and comedy on amdavadi life style, but I am totally disappointed. Hope for better art work next time.

It looks like finally Gujarati movie fans have got Dil Chahta Hai in their language. The movie, from the word go, connects with the audience, and surely commands repeat audience. With three movies doing great in 2015, Gujarati cinema has surely came long way and is set to go, perhaps, international as well.

Story (9/10): While the plot doesn't have any novelty in it, but the intricacies of the story has been woven very nicely and presented well. All in all, it is a story of eight college friends and their budding relationships, experiences, mischief and creation of innumerable memories during the college time. It doesn't feel boring at any time due to multiple sub plots and story juggling between them.

Acting (10/10): While all of them have played their part well, one person that stands out from the entire lot is Malhar Thakkar. Starting off with less than a minute and unnoticed cameo in Kevi Rite Jaish, this guy made sure he is all over the place in Chello Divas. With brilliant comic timing and wicked expressions, he brings amazing energy to the movie. Yash Soni and Janki Bodiwala are a kind of unlikely on-screen couple but share a good chemistry. They are the ones to watch out for in future and would like to see more of them. All other supporting cast has made their presence felt during the movie, and some of them even after the movie. The level of authenticity that the cast has brought to the movie through their dialog delivery and accent, elevated the movie to the next level.

Direction (10/10): With very less novelty in the plot, it all comes to perfect execution and Krishnadev has nailed it brilliantly. The nuances of Gujarat college life, pranks, jargons etc have been captured very well. The speech in the climax by Janki Bodiwala is very nostalgic and can be played again and again. It just touches your heart.

Overall (10/10): I might have some biased view for the movie since I would review it more emotionally than objectively. Someone who has not lived a college life in Gujarat might not be able to relate, but for the rest, it just strikes the right chords. The movie is a must watch if you want to relive your college life.

Best movie of the year

Excellent movie! Kudos to entire team of Chello Divas. We need more of such movie makers who can envision and portray Gujarati cinema in such style.

A movie which can be compared with some of the highly successful Comedy movies of Bollywood.

All the actors have done a good job. Special mention to an actor who played as Vicky for being center part of most of the comedy scenes.

Even the music was awesome, If such were the movie songs we would love to hear more of such songs.

This movie is definitely much better than many idiotic Bollywood movies who are made with big starts and no brains.

The dialogue from an actor who played a role of peon were hilarious.

A delight to watch.

I hope that Makers of this movie come up with second part of Chello Divas.

The movie names 'chello Divas' but could be the dawn of new era for Gujarati movie industry.

The New Landmark in Gujarati Cinema

Alert - More personal thoughts rather than movie review. First of all i am crazy about watching movies. I have seen more than 1500 Hollywood 800 bollywood and around 100 gujarati movies. I like the movie where i can connect myself to the world of movie. If you put more drama over real life situation i feel disconnected. As a gujarati i have seen gujarati movies when i was young. Most of them were good for just timepass if you have no other option. You can not feel the movies at that time because they were over dramatic and talking about very old culture. However the bollywood was also not different at that time. Apart from 2 % art cinema most of the movies were over drama. I like the old rajshri and Hrishikesh mukherji movies. I started watching Hollywood movies when i was teenager. At that time i have seen dubbed movies. I fell in love with them. Even the fantasy world they create in the movie looks more real than our own local movie world. It took almost 10 years to watch most of the Hindi dubbed movies. I remember the days when i reach DVD store to buy them and out of 200 dvds (approx) i can hardly found 3 or 4 dvds which i have not seen. I used to collect them and 10 years ago i had largest collection of Hindi dubbed movies (over 200 dvds) in my entire circle. I lost that collection now but i have now 300 movies in computer and that too after deleting many of them. Now my English is good (not very good) so i can also see and understand non dubbed movies. In last few years i have seen 300 hundred English movies. This whole details is to just to let you know that i am not unknown to the world cinema.

Now this movie is certainly a milestone in history of gujarati cinema. The best movie according to me is when you can create the real world around your story. Locations are also important. I really felt that the language, characters and situations are really fascinating. I know that may be some people will not understand certain humor (Some typical amdavadi line like "Mara bapa to bau moti note") but i know all these words. Only movie so far where i felt that characters are speaking my language (of course gujarati). I felt amazing to hear some of the lines and words in movie scenes. Must watch movie for every gujarati. Felt bad that movie is more seen on internet over theaters.

Unnecessary and Juvenile

Chhello Diwas seems like a work of a bunch of film school failed scriptwriters, cinematographers and a director who in their last ditch effort to make some money, made a deal with some very talented but out of work comedy writers. It's funny, but only in parts. In the first scene movie tries hard to engage the viewer's attention by basing the movie on the backdrop of the lead hero's accident (which is filmed in a somewhat less juvenile manner) but soon Peters out into an incoherent, pointless and immature plot with some laugh out loud comedy.

The lead characters are lazily written and are one dimensional, cardboard cutouts. The girls are there just so the audience gets to see something else.

I highly suspect that there wasn't a script written for the movie. Camera-work is juvenile replete with superfluous shaky camera effect.

I highly recommend watching it on PC with your mouse on the forward button.

A must watch movie

Chello Divas is definitely a "must watch" movie. This is surely a beginning of new era of Gujarati Cinema. It does contain some adult jokes but I think, those are part and parcel of metro life today. The characters have justifies their parts. It is quite different from regular comedies. It has no sort of tragic endings or unbelievable incidents. Although it is being shown for Amdavaadi collegians, it is obviously true for almost every college guy. Some scenes can surely be avoided and are unnecessary. Also, the character played as Dhruval seems quite unrealistic but he is fun. The irritating Girlfriend element brought in the movie is an highlight of Chello Divas. The music given by the composers was pretty good. Also, the songs included were up to the mark and seem perfect. Overall, it is an amazing movie and we await more movies like this.

One of the Best comedy film

Chhello Divas is one of the best comedy movie I have ever seen including Hindi and other films. Why it's one of the best because film has not a single scene where you find any boredom. Film got success because of it's fresh story, wonderfully written screenplay, great dialogues, and best performances from the cast. Especially Malhar Thakar, Yash Soni, Mitra Gadhvi and Arjav Trivedi. In female cast Janki Bodivala is gorgeous, Kinjal Rajpriya is also looks good with other female cast, supporting cast is also done fantastic job. Music department does good job with good Back ground score. Being a film based on college life most of the students and youngsters relate very well with this movie. I Would love to see if any sequel is made of this film.

Not a movie, Stand up comedy!

It is really not a movie but it it around 25-30 clips of 5-6 minutes together of non-relative stand up comedies. I didn't find relation even between two consecutive scenes. There is no direction or flow. Avoid to watch it in theaters. Yeah I laughed many times when I watched this movies but do this on your PC. For comedy I give 7/10. I think they must be some stand up comedians. But they have spoiled the art of movie. Music and editing were 4/10. For story 0/10! Till end I was unable to find story behind the movie! It is not with bad story but it is without story! Please don't ask about climax :p From starting story reveal around college life but what they really wanted to convey I could not make it out. (actually it is not my weakness here :p). Bey Yaar was way way better than this. Gujjubhai was also very good one. But this has no comparison with them.

funny but overrated

Well there was so much hype about this movie and everyone suggesting to watch it twice or thrice but watching once was good enough its just a one time watch .I could not find any story in it thats biggest drawback . For a comedy movie, running time is too long. However 5 stars to this movie just due to few hilarious scenes and good performance. Its not as good as be yaar or Kevi rite jais but funnier. I hope they continue making Gujarati movies but with a story.Watch it just for comedy scenes and keep your brain at home . The urban Gujarati movies are developing faster but still they are not as good as gujarati nataks but hoping for better. 4/10
