Hard to follow, but well made, and well acted.

After a great opening scene the first episode ambles along at an almost pedestrian pace.

Maya Cobbina has been based in the U.S for two decades, trying to save a man from death row, upon returning to The UK, she's offered a new job, those around her face pressures.

I found this very hard to follow if I'm honest, I watched it twice to try and digest what was going on, as it was all over the place. I understood the basics, what Maya was doing out there etc, but the whole story surrounding her husband had me absolutely baffled, it was confusing.

The story wasn't easy to follow, the acting was superb, I am always so impressed with the two main stars, Okonedo and Lester, are both awesome.

I found this had work, but am certain it will get better, 6/10.

Undercover 1
Prismark105 April 2016
A British lawyer based in the USA, Maya Cobbina (Sophie Okonedo) is meeting a death row inmate Rudy Jones (Dennis Haysbert) for the final time as he is on his way to the execution chamber.

Her children including autistic son and husband Nick Johnson (Adrian Lester) watch her on television in England giving an impassioned speech outside the prison. The execution is botched and Maya rushes back to prison.

After an interesting opening things settle down as Maya returns to Britain. We get some flashbacks at to how she met Nick in 1996 at an anti racism rally.

We then get to the gist of the series. Nick goes to a hospice to visit his dying father, he takes off his wedding ring. His father has no idea that his son is married with children. He is in deep cover because the series is inspired by real life news events.

Nick is living a lie and for all we know has no feelings for Maya or his children. It could all be part of the job.

A fair first episode after a dramatic opening. Good performances from Lester and Okonedo.

Incoherent plot and uneven flow

Warning: Spoilers
Incoherent plot and uneven flow of events in which every event seems meant to be dramatic (unnecessarily).

Maya: I'm not going to do this unless you agree. Nick: Do it.

If one current goal of the undercover operation could be served by keeping Maya from becoming DPP, why didn't Nick simply advise her against it? It would not even be suspicious for a husband to advise his wife against making a move that would cause even more stress and disruption of family life. Why else has he been "undercover" for 20 years?
