best Korean drama
sunysetkeane14 April 2016
it's one of the best , the writing the actors , the director , the scenario and every single thing about this drama is the TOP , I have watched almost all of the Korean historical shows but this one is You Must See , it's about the people who change the continuation rule of Korea history .. the story is about a true and real people you can find them in the pages of the history and dates I think people who want to see an interesting , deep story with an slight action and thriller ... this is yours , it's not about comedy or good looking people or love .. it's about people have aims and they write a new history ... it's magical , ethical , heroical and extremely typical .. I'm just so amazed about how good it was , I've got drifted away with this show .. I hope there will be more drama like it .. six flying dragons is fascinating ..

Compelling Series
didjanoit21 December 2015
Being only halfway thru the series, I almost waited until the end to write a review. This show is just too good to not have any reviews up though, so here's what I've seen thus far.

Many Korean dramas are based in the country's history, and this one is also. Not only did the writers pick a particularly tempestuous time period, but also father/son rulers. The story so far has grabbed me from the very fist show, and there's no way I would stop watching through the entire 50+ episodes. The story is written in such a way as to carefully craft each and every character interaction, to best acquaint the audience with all the players. Their stories are being quite intricately developed with many layers. I've found myself sad when some of the worst villains were done away with, because I enjoyed them so much. There are not so many black and white characters, as many shades of gray characters. The writers and extremely talented actors make each character so human, it's easy to forget this story is told in a different century!

The entire cast seem to be the best in the field, especially the young men and women. The Lee Bang Won character, played by Yoo An-in, has been absolutely astounding to watch. I've never seen such a young actor bring so much talent to a role. His scenes are some of the most compelling I've ever watched, in any movie or television show. All of the actors are superb in this series.

If you've ever been curious about shows from another part of the world, I highly recommend you watch this show. It's a work of art in every way.

Captivating and A Masterpiece

This was exceptional beyond words. I don't like subtitled films let alone 55 episodes of subtitles but this I was just immediately immersed into. There's something about the History and the dynasty that is so captivating and intriguing you just need to watch more. The storyline is unpredictable and the twists and turns take you on a journey you won't forget. It's an education watching it understanding is another facets to this beautiful story. I wish it never ends ... I feel I'll watch it again as I'm sure you will find out more second time around !

Definitely one of the best

I was really scared and hesitant to watch 50 episodes drama but I couldn't hold back from watching yoo ah in as amazing actor... And oh boy I wasn't not disappointed, as someone who gets bored pretty fast I couldn't find one boring episode or one unrequired scene, that's how amazing the drama was. Three of the dragons are real historical people and three were fiction(mo hyol, le bang ji, booni) but as I read later on about the foundation of josen... The drama was REALLY close to the historic events. It was a valuable lesson on the Korean history and they made it really interesting to watch.

Extremely well written series. I loved all the characters with their good and bad. You get to see an amazing story and character development, you will get to love and hate the same character multiple times. Game of thrones is nothing compared to this!

Epic Korean Drama
alaningle729 January 2019
The story is mainly about the founding of the Joseon dynasty with a smattering of star crossed lovers. It lasts for 50 episodes and most of them deal with the court intrigue and power struggles over many years but manage to hold your interest by their clever twists and turns. I would have given it nine but for some odd reason when a character first appears on screen and often subsequently they tell you their future status. If you know for example someone is going to be the king of Joseon then you know whatever predicament they face they will survive, at least until they become the king of Joseon. I did not like any of the main characters at the end because they all had serious shortcomings which is not a bad thing as it made them more human. The only character I liked and felt sorry for was Cheok Sa Gwang a deadly assassin, which sounds odd but hopefully you will understand when you watch this excellent series.

Good enough
PennyReviews21 July 2019
Six Flying Dragons is one of the dramas that if you like historical dramas you just have to watch it.

The length of this one is kind of a disadnantage as you have to be really dedicated in order to watch it. Though, the story does help to keep the interest high. However, there were some moments when the story got boring and tiring. But the acting was really good and the love stories were interesting and spiced up the story, as they were realistic and they mixed with the story well. The fighting scenes as well as the action scenes were really good and well filmed.

So, overall six out of ten.

Six Flailing Crooks!
Park_Min9 December 2023
I hate how this was a prequel to "Tree With Deep Roots", I already hated what they did with the roots plot in that one. This one simply followed its predecessor in that regard, just an extension of the same aggravating plot device structure but this time it's double the length!! Doubling down on Tree With Deep Roots' biggest weakness without fixing its fundamental problem. I would presume they have gotten enough feedback from "Tree With Deep Roots" to do a better job but it doesn't seem to be the case here. There were some interesting moments, interactions and ideas but these were overshadowed by everything else. The cast was an even split for me, some of them were likable while the rest I really disliked throughout. Shin Sae Kyeong was a literal plank of wood for most of the drama. Anyway, if I had to really pretend to be blind for 2 seconds then the drama had some nice action sprinkled scarcely and that's probably what I would be remembering it for. In comparison, it's slightly better than "Tree With Deep Roots" but can be categorized equally the same.
