Not much happens
els-1405416 November 2021
Nothing really happens in this film until the last 15 minutes. You see people living their lives with here and there a hint of supernatural phenomenals.

In the last 15 minutes the story picks up, seems to be getting pretty good and then the film just ends mid scene.

There was a lot of potential there but they blew it.

It not a movie it's a pilot with no end.

Warning: Spoilers
When we watched this my partner and I said it felt like a series as there were so many questions that couldn't possibly be answered in the time left.

It's moving around time line was confusing and not well explained. It really could have been a good series but I feel it probably would have never answered all the questions anyway. Felt quite slow.

Then suddenly BOOM! The End. So I searched and found out it was actually a pilot. Absolutely POINTLESS!

Well acted, well crafted...
durham10016 November 2021
But the story is all over the place. It has all the ingredients for a good film but the chef must have been drunk. As the other reviewer says, not much happens in the first 70 minutes or so but tension and suspense is built. There are several storylines on the go and then at the end...nothing. No real answers, one familys tale is not returned to and the final scene is like the last moment of a tv series that leaves you hanging for next weeks episode. It's a shame as there was so much right with this but if you do not have a coherent storyline, the rest counts for nothing.

Garbage
antide-4237618 November 2021
What a load of tripe. Obviously designed to have a follow up and the fact that it doesn't makes this absolutely pointless. A mess of a story and believe me there is no point in ever watching this because as a single movie it is complete mumbo jumbo.

Why Netflix are even showing this pile of tosh is beyond me. Don't waste your time.

It just ends.
Saiph9025 December 2021
This had the potential to be a good film, three story lines which required knitting together, I can only guess at two things, one it was a trailer for a series that never got made or they ran out of money and simply ended the film mid scene. I have not a clue what this film was about, pebbles, numbers, a strange man who broke into the car, nothing develops or is linked together, I have read other reviews and they are equally as confused.

The synopsis was more interesting than the film
amyarw16 November 2021
Watched this and couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on? Four of the characters I couldn't work out if they were different people or the same, couldn't make head nor tail of this at all.

Well? Where's the rest??
aucottjohn20 November 2021
You can't make a movie if you don't have the ending.

At least make this into a series for God's sake. So, so much potential just sitting right there....

What was this even about?

Warning: Spoilers
I feel as though I've missed something. Seems the film follows 3 families who each have a member or two with a psychotic illness, when in fact, they seem to be experiencing some kind of paranormal activity, where they might be communicating with the dead, but I could be wrong.

Then there is a mysterious man, who breaks into the car of a psychiatrist, whose own daughter is experiencing these apparitions, no idea why he broke into her car, or how he's related to anything in the film, except to say, he can communicate with the dead and makes money out of the bereaved by giving them snippets of what their dearly departed are telling him.

The ending was particularly strange, an ending, but not an ending. It felt as though there should be another episode. We end seeing the mysterious man in the home of the psychiatrist, chatting to her partner. The psychiatrist has just lost her daughter in a forest, after she directs her mother to drive to an area where a missing girl has told her to go, the girl is dead and the psychiatrist finds the body of this missing, now dead girl and her family, who presumably don't know they're dead as they are one of the families who suffer the "psychotic illness". Anyway, the mysterious man tells the psychiatrist that his daughter went to the same school as her daughter and he's come to meet her. The psychiatrist's daughter attends high school, but the mysterious man earlier mentions he lost his daughter at the age of six.

Honestly, none of it made sense and I don't even know why anyone bothered to make this film in the first place.

Where's the ending?
dimitramelanitis29 November 2021
Did the guys just start a movie, get bored filming in the middle and just cut it and jumped to the credits?

Another "could have been great" ... But the film makers couldn't be arsed to write an end for it. Disappointed. Waste of time.

What was that all about?
nigelsmithson23 November 2021
Muddled beginning, confused middle and incomplete ending.

At a complete loss as to what to say.....didn't understand the story, didn't understand the character relationships and didn't understand what was going on.

Incomprehensible, incoherent and inconclusive.

Rubbish ..waste of my time

That's an hour and 23 minutes of my life that I ain't ever getting back.

What a load of trollop. What the hell happened at the end, did I miss something, like the answers to all the story lines, why did it just end with no answers and why even have the film on Netflix if everyone saying the same thing its obvious that the film makers are taking the piss out of us all, so bloody angry that I gave it my time.

Warning: Spoilers
What I loved about The Wilding is its eerie atmosphere. I'd say it's one of the few actually haunting ghost movies.

In my opinion paranormal horrors and thrillers are often not mysterious enough and too predictable. I blame the music for that. It tells you exactly when to position your arm in order to block the view of the screen, while you can pretend you're still watching.

During this unfinished production however, I was TOO LATE with my arm.

Most paranormal experiences of the characters are woven into their lives and into the movie in a very believable way. They creep up on you almost slowly and then hit before you know it.

The Wilding builds up, never too much.

But then it just ends.

For a moment my partner and I thought (hoped) we had missed a gigantic revelation or a puzzle we somehow didn't notice.

I said "oh! Of course! The girl is his daughter but his daughter died when she was 6 so the girl is dead!" That sort of thing.

So.

When you go into this thinking it's a movie, like we did, it's not.

It's supposed to be a series (I understood) and honestly, the story is promising. I'd watch more!

Actually scary
psmith-6122819 November 2021
Ok so the story was a bit of a mess for the first half of the movie, but the last half was pretty good, and it had some really scary parts. The ending was rubbish though, so bad and sudden.

Worst Film I've ever seen!
honeybloggs-696486 December 2021
How could anyone manage to write a story this bad ! And whoever agreed to spend money and turn it into a film must have been bananas ! There's no explanation of events at all The movie ends abruptly . I think they ran out of money . It seems like they just stopped production in the middle of the film , so couldn't give it an ending At the beginning of the film We see two teenagers running through woods and at the end we see another teenager running through the woods ! They must have been training for a marathon.

It's a movie that leads to nowhere. Absolutely waste of time, feels like there's no ending. There's no plot twists, no explanations, no terror, nothing...

It finished in the middle
vampatmidnight20 November 2021
If this is the first episode of a series then it's great. Had a few jumps and I really liked the tension but it ends and there is no part 2. Not sure if I would class it as horror or sci-fi I felt like there were little green men just out of shot but no questions were answered. And most questions just led to more questions.

Good story until the end
davidhill-5001619 November 2021
Don't understand the ending. Waste of 2hrs. Hate films like this that have no ending.

If you enjoy films like these then this one is for you.

Wish I read the reviews before watching. I normally do but the start of the film was good.

Poor script, even worse acting and the ending was the worst I have ever seen. What the hell were Netflix thinking wasting money on this trash. Another hour and a half of my life wasted.

Utter rubbish.
graemejones-1059025 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Wilding: A family moves home to begin a new life, but are soon being haunted by strange visions.

1. A Family, NO. There are 3 families & only 2 have a slight connection. Family 3 has no connection.

2. Utter confusion, the plot does not gel. At least 3 different stories that you hope have a connection. NO!!!

3. Tremble with fear as 2 families are haunted by condensation on windows & mirrors. Hide behind the sofa as small pebbles appear at random in one house.

4. They hear ghostly voices, nothing that is sinister, just voices speaking random numbers. No explanation why.

5. A man turns up who knows secrets about a family, & he can help, but doesn't. Who is he? Again no explanation.

As others have said, the film has decent acting & production values. BUT.... is there a person on earth that can link the 3 families & explain the haunting visions.

You will wait for ever before anything strange happens, only the first 5 minutes are sinister. The story line is so confusing & how can this be classed as a horror film?

If you see it through to the big climax, well forget it, there isn't one. It leaves viewers with more questions than answers. And suddenly the credits roll, there is no ending.

This has all the elements to be great, but it's just a complete mess, please avoid it if you like an ending with answers, because there are none.

A complete waste of your valuable time.

I will now look at reviews before watching anything else.

The worst "Horror" I've ever seen, trust me.

Bang! Then it's gone
thales-6304526 November 2021
One of those few gems out of The US. Lots of individual stories that you assume are going to to culminate and meet in the middle. Unfortunately the ending is very abrupt and explains nothing which other reviewers found annoying. It's obvious there was supposed to be a continuation or a series that didn't get picked up. Unfortunately this happens. But this leaves you to make up your own mind. Excellent stuff.

Waste of time
robertrutledge20 June 2022
I can't believe I made it to the end of this movie. It's a joke. It has just about every horror-movie cliché you can think of. There's the "disturbed" pre-teen girl with a troubled past who can see dead people. Her mother who just so happens to be a psychiatrist. A lady who is over-worked at her job as a health researcher and starts hearing voices. A "mysterious man" who claims he can talk to his dead daughter.

I couldn't tell if this was supposed to be a kids' movie, although mild language would leave me to believe it isn't. But I honestly don't understand why any adult would want to watch this awful movie. Worst of all is that there's no real overarching plot here. There are different subplots that never come together at the end. There's no provided explanation for the supernatural events that occur throughout. The acting is not very good either. I had no emotional attachment whatsoever to any of the characters.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this movie at all costs.

An hour and a half of my life I will never get back watching this. Started off well but just ends without making any sense whatsoever.

I thought there may be a sequel?
