Not really a mystery
Jackbv1233 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm trying to be generous to overcome a pet peeve. Any story about abuse of authority and gestapo tactics by government agencies sets my hackles up hard. It didn't help that the agents were so stereotypical and stupid. I think this was supposed to be a comical element. But I stuck it out to watch the love story develop between Meghan Ory's and Andrew Walker's characters.

Walker, as usual, is a sure bet and Ory gels with him nicely. At first they spar with one another. Ashley was a bit whiny and self-absorbed in the beginning but inevitably Ashley's true character comes through and her charm works it's magic.

***SPOILER*** I didn't read the book, but might now. The movie's story was obviously predictable, but most romance stories are, at least in the happily ever after. Even though I knew it was coming, Dash showing up with the hay ride clinched it.

So cute until the fake FBI scenes
MovieQween-3362212 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
What on earth was with the fake FBI/police scenes and the Russian crime storyline? So so so insanely ridiculous and unwatchable. Please do better Hallmark. The two leads would have been so cute without the distracting and weird police scenes?

That puppy is too darn cute!
cgvsluis24 December 2020
Adorable set up for supposed strangers being thrown together for a long drive to Seattle. Cute film references to one of my all time favorite classic films, It happened one night...both the hitch hiking scene and the wall of Jericho. Adorable couple, with decent chemistry and one major misunderstanding. But it's Hallmark...we know what happens in the end!

Adorably Lame..
kz917-16 December 2017
If you are a Hallmark Christmas movie fan you will recognize both Andrew Walker and Meghan Ory from previous films.

Cute but dorky premise. Unbeknownst to her a woman is on the no fly list and ends up in a car with an FBI agent who is surreptitiously trying to ascertain if she is a security threat. On the car trip they being to fall for one another. Can their budding romance survive when the truth is revealed?

Cute.

A delightful surprise
RMBittner-777-93000318 December 2018
How anyone can call this a "typical" Hallmark movie baffles me. This is a comedy/romance with a light thriller element that I've never seen in a Hallmark Christmas movie. The writing occasionally sparkles, with Meghan Ory delivering a charming performance. The emphasis is more on comedy than many Hallmark Christmas movies, and the spy intrigue just spices it up nicely. This isn't a great movie, just a delightful surprise and a truly enjoyable 2 hours.

Movies Misses the Mark.
gehewe14 December 2016
Our family enjoys watching Christmas movies. This one passed the doze test (no one fell asleep) but I would not watch it again (my son-18 might). The story seems OK but the movie did not succeed in making it interesting or compelling. My wife said she didn't hate it, but it wasn't that good either. I guess we give it a Fair rating.

The leading role actress was very pleasant and likable. Her character was fairly well developed and defined. We had some really nice scenes of kids dressed as reindeer, a man giving away puppies, boys switching license plates. No real cohesion to the main story line. The story had some real suspense and surprise, but the film did not exploit it. They just didn't pull it off. It probably could have been a good movie.

Ash and Dash Exceptional On-Screen Chemistry
alan-oreilly-116 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen Meghan Ory and Andrew W Walker in other movies but their on-screen chemistry in Dashing Through the Snow is exceptional. Here is Ash, with her intensely caring nature and buoyant warmhearted personality and strong, laconic, sensitive Dash, haunted by his war-zone past and aftermath. They are a perfect on-screen match and superb with the puppy. They only needed formally to tie the knot in the end to rate 10 with me. DV I think they should team up again. Starcraft would be a good name for the shop.

Sloppy in spite of good acting.
doctorsmoothlove27 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"Dashing Through the Snow" is a Hallmark film based on a novel by Debbie Macomber staring Andrew Walker and Meghan Ory as two young people travelling from California to Seattle for Christmas. The plot bears similarity to the great "It Happened One Night," which is mentioned by Ory's character, Ashley Harrison, several times. It's one thing to riff on a great movie. It's another to rip it off while mentioning you are ripping it off. It is the same problem that "Sleepless in Seattle" has with "An Affair to Remember." It's not clever or respectful just lazy.

In spite of this, the film isn't terrible. The leads are attractive and personable with each other and other actors. I think Ory is especially charming in the scene in which she talks to the crazy guy who gives her a free puppy. Actor Aleks Paunovic as the dog man camps it up really good here. If you have ever lived in a rural area, you might run into someone like this. When no one is around to tell you you're crazy, you end up giving away puppies at a gas station.

Walker, for the most part, is emotive as always. I especially enjoyed the scene when he attempts to tell Ory's character that he is an FBI agent. Oh, there is a subplot about Dash investigating Ashely because she is a suspected terrorist. When she meets him at the airport she has no idea that he is a secret agent. Someone swapped her wallet and the FBI is dumb to know what happened until after the bust into her friend's home near the end of the movie to arrest her. That's the biggest problem with the film. The FBI subplot is entirely unnecessary and handled poorly. It is really cheesy even when intended to be serious. Ashely and Dash have a pretty good rapport and their relationship grows organically. The revelation about Dash's life pulls the rug out from under her. Ory is sweet and this seemed unusually cruel to me.

The film is hard to recommend in spite of how good the actors are. It's just all over the place and the bad is really bad.

All This And a Cute Puppy
chiltonsjillfreeport8 January 2020
This was way off the beaten path for Hallmark.

Definitely the funniest HMC movie I've seen. Ash (Megan Ory) and Dash (Andrew Walker) really had that spark, with more than a few un-Hallmarkesque escapades on the way.

Finally, a male lead who can pull off snark! And a female lead who does a sweet and convincing goofball, with no desperation for a man.

Imo, the whole FBI angle was deliberately campy, and a tip o' the cap to screwball comedies of the past.

There were some small moments (again, not the HMC way) that really tickled me. Like Dash's romantic two words at the bar and the Blade dog ownership test. Even my SO laughed!

But not a great actress. Beautiful smile, but not much else. Andrew Walker always does a great job on these Christmas movies. As for the plot, it's another road trip movie, which has been done better on this network before. The FBI subplot is just irritating.

Frustrating dash
TheLittleSongbird19 April 2022
'Debbie Macomber's Dashing Through the Snow' on paper didn't overly excite me. The title is fairly uninspired and the story formulaic-sounding. Yet my love of Christmas, the not overly negative reviews and having seen a lot of films and television episodes that sound nothing special on paper but manage to be executed quite beautifully in a way that was quite unexpected. Have no familiarity with the source material but still watched it anyway because of my Christmas completest sake and the always watchable Andrew W. Walker.

There were no regrets watching 'Debbie Macomber's Dashing Through the Snow', regret is a very rare emotion actually after watching a Hallmark Christmas film. At the same time, it was pretty much what was expected from reading the synopsis and from watching many other Christmas films over the past three years or so. Meaning that expectations were mixed prior to watching and my feelings on 'Debbie Macomber's Dashing Through the Snow' were pretty much mixed as well. As far as the 2015 Christmas films go, this is middling.

Am going to start with the good. The production values are pleasing on the eye, the scenery has an authentic Christmassy feel and the photography doesn't try to do too much while not being claustrophobic. The soundtrack is also suitably festive without being overpowering in volume or over-utilised.

Parts are amusing, parts are cute without being sugary and its good intentions are appreciated. There is a lot of charm here too. The characters are lacking in depth, but nobody irritates and they at least engaged. The acting is generally better than average, with very charming and heartfelt performances from Meghan Ory and Walker. Their chemistry is pretty much the same and they are natural together. Also liked how their relationship developed and how investable it was, and their development character-wise engaged too.

However, there are things that could have been done better. Will agree that the worst aspect is the FBI subplot, which was incredibly cheesy and ridiculous not to mention completely pointless, sadly there is too much of it. Found the agent characters very cartoonish and excessively stereotypical, and even Rukiya Bernard (usually a scene stealer) doesn't come over particularly well this time and resorts to some scenery chewing.

It did make 'Debbie Macomber's Dashing Through the Snow' feel very disjointed and like two films in one, one significantly better than the other and tonally too different to each other. No surprises here either. The comedy at times does fall flat and felt overdone and over-silly, it's the charming romantic relationship and their banter where the film is at its best. There is also a big revelation that came over as too cruel, especially when one sees how it affects the person that suffers the consequences.

Overall, watchable but undistinguished. See it for the leads and their chemistry but the FBI subplot and how badly it's executed is enough to make one tempted to change the channel. 5/10.

Well it Could of been much better and much worse
Christmas-Reviewer3 July 2016
BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE MOVIE. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 200 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA.

I was looking forward to this film. Andrew W. Walke was in "A Bride For Christmas". That was a "Wonderful" film and I was happy to see him again in a Christmas theme film. (Maybe He will do another)

In this film (A minor updating of It Happened One Night) a woman can't board her plane. She ends up in the last rental car the airport has but it is being rented by Dash who agrees to let her ride with him as long as she pays for the gas. The film has a nice quick pace and its never boring but it could of been better. My problems is the subplots.

There is a few subplots that get resolved "off camera" which is the downfall of the viewing experience. This is the rare case that a LONGER FILM would of been better.

This film is enjoyable but it had so much more potential.

A good and enjoyable show BUT.......
lippylip2616 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show was good and very enjoyable Started off good and kept the pace nicely The two leads were very good in their roles Megan Ory who I saw a lot.of in once upon a time was recognisable and she played her part as a chatterbox well The chemistry between the actors was good and one wonders how Dash Managed to keep his cool with all her antics The FBI Agents were the weak.link in This movie proving how incompetent they can be A one track mind is all they possess and even when the truth is put in front of them on a plate the one FBI agent is so blinkered he cant accept the truth The two boys at the diner was a red herring distraction and got what they deserved The only.bad part about the movie was the crappy ending She gets arrested next thing she is home with her mom bemoaning the fact that Dash betrayed her and lied Then we have the Christmas lightinghe appears and she falls into his arms like nothing happened Shes just been Screwed by the FBI incompetence and it's like.nothing ever happened A short statement by the one believer who was realised she was innocent saying that they caught the woman who stole Orises identity and that was that No apologies, no re embursment, no comeback.on the idiotic FBI agent who refused to listen and worked totally on assumption - no retribution for him If.it wasnt for the crappy.endiing I would have rated it a 8 or 9.

Bit of Christmas adventure
geegee-7766121 November 2023
I watch Hallmark Christmas movies for the warm safe buzz - not for quality.

However, in a sea of nondescript, extra-formulaic Hallmark Christmas movies, this was a really pleasant surprise.

The adventure elements in the plot were maybe a little clunky at times, yet it was fun and refreshing to have that. You could tell where they would end up (falling for each other, obviously), but unlike in most Hallmark output, you couldn't quite guess how they would get there.

There was good banter between the characters, and it was actually quite witty at times.

It wasn't exactly It Happened One Night - which the movie even admitted to be inspired by - but not bad at all.

Spy versus spy?
jpyshny1 January 2024
Girl misses her flight. Goes to rent a car and a rude guy, cuts the line, bribes the car rental agent, and gets the car. He offers to share the ride with her to Seattle. Now the fun begins. Is she a foreign agent? Is he an FBI agent? Why is the FBI following them? Why did she adopte dog from a biker? What's in the Redbox? Is he really talking to his mom on the phone?

Subplot, two teenagers that work in a coffee shop are broke and can't afford to pay for their license and registration on the car. Solution, swap license plates.

She really forgives him quickly.

Best quote in show "Show Joy and joy will show itself to you. "

It seems like a story made by a six year old girl
afgtenreiro25 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I can't even fathom how this got to become a movie, with so many issues! The character arc story seemed messed up, the characters had such weird interactions, the FBI scenes seemed so unrealistic, ... I'm sorry if I can't give an accurate review to this movie, but I just don't feel qualified to describe the atrocities made in this film. The only thing that I can say, that might help understand my frustration in writing this is by the fact that, I spent the first half of the movie whispering to myself "

Better strap in for a frustrating ride...
edward-052541 December 2020
Annoying from the start...the fact that any male would cut in front of a woman, with the complicity of a car rental agent to rent the car that's rightly hers...and then continues to make noises like he's doing HER a favor when in fact, he's a lousy jerk, is hard to stomach at the outset...and impossible to forget.

A large part of the annoyance factor is that our female protagonist is a vapid, bubbly ditz...and that doesn't improve.

Also, attempts at creating intrigue are lamely weak...the comedy, weaker. Heartwarming likewise fails.

Naive woman meets cynical guy with a twist
MickyG3334 December 2022
7.5 stars.

This was a fun movie about two attractive strangers on a holiday drive from SF to Seattle. Some of it was in the snow (thus the title). Ory is a fresh face for me on my HM journey so far. She has a cute smile, and is very disarming an actress. She has a very alluring way about her. I did not warm up to her very quickly, though. Walker is good as usual, the perfect choice to be a military type. I wonder how many HM movies he plays a military character in.

It was an enjoyable ride and the romance slowly blossomed, then was stopped dead in its tracks for a long while until the end. That was a fine, it was enjoyable watching her break his shell bit by bit with her simple charm.

The FBI aspect was cheesy, but since it's in the novel I suppose they couldn't change the script too much.

It's a light romance, not to be taken very seriously. She is a woman who believes in all that's good, kind, and sweet; naive is a more accurate description. I've seen sweet and she is it in spades. He is the exact opposite, strong, silent, cynical, suspicious, seemingly uncaring, scrooge-like.

For the women viewers, I imagine he is a dream. He is chiseled and built, so even I can attest. She is also a catch and so this movie was entertaining enough for me to go all in. I wanted to delete it off the DVR around 30 minutes, but that would be the umpteenth time I was proven wrong that you can gauge a movie in 30 minutes. Nope, it doesn't work that way with HM, whose movies are like a fine wine; they must age much longer, sometimes all the way to the final credits before you cast your vote. You'll be glad you waited.

What happened to the 650-miles of Interstate 5 from the Bay area to Portland?
SimonJack21 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just one more thing - a surprise at the end, might have made this movie a cult classic in time. And that is if Ashley had actually turned out to be smuggling or transporting a bomb in her red box. But as it is, "Debbie Macomber's Dashing Through the Snow" is about as far-fetched, far-out, as one can get for a film with this plot and these characters, let alone at Christmas. Of course, the holidays provide the setting for the plot.

If this film at all closely follows Macomber's book that it's based on, it must be quite a read. It's hard to imagine how this plot was laid down in print. But the producers did a terrible job with the screenplay. Even granting the weird plot, and the bit of humor that actually can conjure up a smile or laugh, the technical production is terrible. The biggest problem is it's terrible scenes and overviews of tracking Ashley and Dash as they drive from the San Francisco airport to Seattle.

All of the filming was done in British Columbia, and it's too bad they couldn't spend just a little money to send an extra film crew for one day of helicopter filming along Interstate 5. They do a neat job of plotting the progress of the trip on a map that shows them going by Sacramento and Redding, California, and then Mistletoe, Medford, Salem and Wilsonville, in Oregon. But every scene cut to Dash and Ashley driving shows them on a forested two-lane highway with nary any traffic. From the late 1980s to mid-2000s, I drove large portions of that route many times, including several trips the full length. And anyone who has driven the I-5 Corridor would notice the fake traveling route and scenes. That is a very busy divided four-lane corridor. While it passes through scenic areas, and forest lands, the corridor is wide and open with distant views from San Francisco to Redding, and then in other stretches in Oregon including the last 120 miles in the Willamette Valley leading to Portland.

Many holiday movies are being made in British Columbia, and locales there can resemble places in the States, especially coastal areas. But when most of a plot takes place in an area, in which many scenes are filmed, and characters' movements are being followed in the story, more care should have been taken to at least get some film footage of the area - in this case, the I-5 highway corridor in California and Oregon.

Besides the location scene problems, this film suffers n other ways. Meghan Ory is way over the top antsy, fast talkative, and overacting in the first half of the film. Andrew Walker is good as Dash Sutherland, but most of the FBI cast either overact or seem too goofy rather than funny. If this movie had been made as a satire, the characters such as Blade, played by Aleks Paunovic, would have been much funnier.

Another subplot, with two guys from a bakery changing car license plates because one of their had expired, helped break up the monotony of the long drive that Ashley and Dash had. On the other hand, it was goofy and a distraction from the main characters. It becomes obvious how that will play into the story of the FBI trailing the couple (and Dash actually being an FBI agent). In a satire that could have been played for much more humor. But it's rather flat here.

With a better screenplay and a calmer Ashley, a deep romance in two days would be a little more believable. Then, shoot some scenes of I-5 and slip them in when going to scenes of Ashley and Dash on the road, and this could be a very good holiday season movie, with good humor.

A nice, Christmas movie
minunimion15 December 2022
I don't know what to say about this movie. It's a well done, funny, tender, romantic, easy, sweet, Christmas movie. If you don't like this kind of movie, then I don't think you should watch it. To appreciate a movie like this, you have to appreciate the little things that the life, every day offers to us. If you appreciate only wonderful, extraordinary, unbelievable, fantastic things, I'm sorry, you will be disappointed. Put aside your huge ego, load some humility and you will enjoy this movie.

The actors are really good and they know their profession. Same for the director.

It has not been shot in California, Oregon as you would expect by seeing their map and road signs, but in British Columbia, Canada. I don't think it's a big deal.

I enjoyed it and I never felt bored and it's not lame at all, as someone said, but of course, not everyone will like it.

7 stars, but I gave it 10 as I don't like when a movie like this one, gets a low score, because I know that many people worked a lot to make this movie, and the effort was huge. I'm sure, it wasn't easy at all. I worked as an actor in some movies (nothing special) and I saw that many people worked at the same time, in any kind of conditions.

Many reviewers just don't care, they stay at home, writing some stupid things (not all of them, fortunately) and giving 1 star, just because they feel important, when in reality they are losers and their lives suck. I really didn't find any movie that doesn't deserve at least 3, 4 stars. It's just my opinion, but I always think about what there's behind, not only what is in front of me.

I'm not a critic and I'm glad I'm not, that profession is really awful.

so bad
sarajimi27 November 2021
No one in hallmark has apparently ever been to northern california or even looked at a map of I-5. The whole movie, they show this major north-south commercial artery as a twisty, two-lane road that occasionally goes along the coast and always in the snow. Aside from this, ashley is totally manic and i kept wanting to tell her to chill. If she is really in such a rush to get to seattle, why does she keep stopping?

This drive is easily done in one day. The fbi is shown as dumber than usual and their interest in ashley doesn't make any actual sense. As usual, the book was better. The only saving grace for me was andrew walker's pleasant countenance and the two leads worked well together. But they couldn't save the poor material or the complete lack of anything resembling fact-checking.

Ridiculous, but Meghan Ory and little Blade the dog are adorable in this sweet road trip romance.
MichaelByTheSea22 December 2022
Yeah, the plot is certainly far-fetched. If the FBI was full of so many incompetent agents, we'd be in a lot of trouble.

And yeah, the road they travel is nothing like the real I-5 that they were supposedly on while traveling from California through Oregon.

And no one, absolutely no one, at least no sane person, would ever play the same song on a jukebox over and over, every hour, every day, while standing there looking sad and depressed. And if, as in this movie, the owner of a bar played Blue Christmas nonstop, his bar would go out of business.

And nobody is going to make a living doing the kind of crafts that Ashley does.

But Meghan Ory is beyond lovable in this movie. And Andrew Walker is a Hallmark all-star. Their chemistry is great.

And Blade the dog is very cute.

I enjoy a good road trip romance movie. It gives the characters (and the audience) a chance to see whether there's chemistry between the two main characters as they get to know each other. I loved how this movie references the first great road trip romance movie : It Happened One Night. They even copied the famous "walls of Jericho" scene. There are also some fun references to other movies like David Lean's Brief Encounter and Romancing the Stone.

This was an admittedly flawed movie but I still enjoyed it, and I grade Hallmark movies on a curve.
