Kawaii but needs work on having a deeper storyline
Irishchatter2 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This anime was quite good and even funny, when Umaru always tortures her older brother Taihei for making him her slave whenever she's in "lazy" mode at home. I honestly wish I could have a bro like Taihei since he is so good to her and the fact he really is quite a likeable character! Although I know Umaru likes hamsters (so do I), but why does she become small and not her average height when she goes into the house? I have nothing against tall (like me) or small peeps but I just find it rather consfusing she keeps switching from one thing to the other. I meant confusing by are we concentrating on Umaru as a lazy bum or a beauty? I suppose we all have our own alter egos lol. Anyways this isn't really a big of deal but I was very curious while watching this anime lol!

Definitely this anime would cheer you up if you're having a bad day or just want to get away from anime that would annoy your head. Although I personally wish they would concentrate on the other characters a little deeper but, it's still ok to watch!

I'll give this anime a 7/10 for its humour and its need for deeper storyline

Himouto! Umaru-chan
Tweekums2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Protagonist Umaru appears to be the perfect high school student; she is beautiful, popular and top of her class… then she gets back to the home she shares with older brother Taihei she puts on her animal eared hoodie and becomes a total slob. She lies around playing video games while eating crisps and drinking cola; she expects Taihei to provide everything she demands; much to his frustration. She is so different at home that some people believe that she must be her younger sister. Over the course of the series we see her getting into various amusing situations.

Whether you enjoy this series almost entirely whether you find Umara to be an entertaining character or whether you believe that she is just a selfish brat… both opinions are quite understandable. Personally I thought she was pretty funny… and at times genuinely hilarious. Her character design was great; when she is outside she is tall and beautiful but once she gets home and dons her hoodie she is drawn like a young child so it is believable when people who know her believe she must be her younger sister. While Umaru is slobbish and self-centred she is still a nice person at heart. The other characters are fairly entertaining too; one can't help but feel sorry for Taihei as he has to cope with his lazy sister. Overall I found this to be a really entertaining series although I can see how some viewers might be put off by the protagonist.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Good enough
PennyReviews10 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
An anime that is entertaining enough without a solid plot. Actually, the story is so simple that doesn't appeal much. And yet, you probably have seen Umaru's picture somewhere, so that must justify enough for it's popularity. The sort adventure's of Umaru and her brother are simple but entertaining, as Umaru is a tyrant of a sister, always getting what she wants and a complete Otaku that has to have every manga or figurine or video game that is out. Her brother is quite the likable guy, putting up with his sister's outbursts and yet loving her dearly. Fortunately, the anime doesn't get into any brother-sister romance and just keeps it simple and funny. So, 7 out of 10.

This anime is just so awesome! When I first watched it, I felt like I was in a whole different world. I never got bored of it. Never skipped any second!! Its sooo cute!! I hope other otakus get to see this anime. So it really deserves 10/10. No less, well that's my opinion. But I really recommend this to people who love comedy, slice of life animes.

A simple comedy with very nice moments.

Himouto tells a simple story and completely easy to follow, his first season is fine but the second season is when you introduce (more) secondary characters and their stories are developed in relation to Umaru, leaving characters as endearing as Kirie (personally my favorite). Hopefully a third part comes out because I want to see more.

True humor
Mysterygeneration15 January 2024
I will not be dishonest. Observing Himouto! My Two-Faced Little Sister, Umaru-chan, brings back my childhood memories. Every episode, both indoors and outdoors, is a unique adventure every week. Umaru Doma, the title character, is a role model for practically everyone and a class superstar. When she lives at home, her brother Taihei Doma acts as a sort of sidekick, giving her food, shelter, and comfort. But in all honesty, this series caught me off guard like a sudden hurricane. And by that I mean the kind of otaku storm that you really have to see to believe.

Studio Doga Kobo is adapting the series, which is based on the same-named 4-koma. They have gained more recognition recently for their work with slice-of-life narratives. That's basically what this show is like. Umaru's hidden personality is clearly established in the first episode. She leads two separate lives. She exudes maturity, friendliness, and an overall persona that inspires admiration at school. She is nearly the total opposite at home, leading a sluggish lifestyle, having an obsessive otaku mindset, and acting like a NEET. The way that each episode of the show reflects on her double life style initially makes it seem a little strange. From this vantage point, the show excels at showcasing true humor.

its a story that focuses on the relationship of a brother and sister, with sister having a dual personality.
anvesh-kanojia-2730 July 2016
i have not seen that much anime in my life, so when i went into himouto umaru chan i knew nothing about the plot or the characters. this anime is so heart warming ,cute and with a non linear story telling that i was stuck with it from the first episode, the character building in this anime is awesome, each episode we are introduced to new characters and after a while they all grow on you and you feel related to them. the main character is "umaru" who has kind of a dual personality, she is a brilliant , smart , hot, high school student when she is at school and in public, while at home she is lazy careless, gamer that is obsessed with cold drink and junk food. The brother of umaru is "taihe" who is a corporate worker, he is a guy who is serious with his life and work. and has to keeps up with all the silly things that umaru does. This whole situation makes quite a funny story of brother sister relationship. the voice acting is so authentic and great that the charters just feel so alive, umaru in particular, after a while i fell in love with all these characters and just wanted to be a part of umaru's universe. the animation is beautiful, music is beautiful, its a feel good anime, which focuses on little things in life that actually make life special. i loved every second of this anime, its my favorite anime.and now i am going to japan to buy all the plushy toys related to this anime.

A fun show!
masonfewel7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show is straight-up entertainment, with little to no conflict at all. If you like that kind of show I would also recommend non non biyori (which is leagues above this one in my opinion). I had a great time watching this show, but it is really just something to watch To fill up time. Also, I'm disappointed in the ending. I thought for sure everyone was going to find out each other's (mostly umaru-Chan's) secrets, but they didn't. I would have loved to see the reactions. That being said, I didn't watch the second season because I heard that it isn't as good as the first, and given that the first one is mostly a time-waster I didn't feel the need to watch it.

So cute and refreshing, actually the comedy is okay-ish. But the umaru character is damn cute, always brings a smile to my face. Also there is no fan service. GO FOR IT.
