Not too bad
Turbo192 September 2019
My wife, daughter and I watched it on Netflix tonight. It wasn't Oscar worthy or anything, but it wasn't that bad either. Kept us entertained and that is what movies are for. I thought the young cast did ok with the material.

Most Of The Other Reviews Are Fake
Kaptain_Bluddflagg3 July 2019
The movie is not the worst horror film I've ever seen, but it's still pretty bad. The story had potential but is hampered by horrible acting. There isn't much to say about this movie and the only reason I'm bothering to write anything at all is because most of other the reviews for it are fake.

If you click on the name of the user who wrote the 7, 8, 9 and 10 star reviews you will see that almost all of them have been users for less than 6 months, and many have given high ratings to the same 10 or so films.

The opening credits are probably the best thing about this, to be honest. They hint at a story that is more interesting that what is actually delivered. There are some interesting moment scattered throughout and a couple of times it was pretty creepy, but these moments were ruined by inconsistent performances. Speaking of which...

Kate Rose Reynolds, whose character is introduced as being a "dark Wiccan" *CRINGE*, is actually a decent actress. She plays a creepy part pretty well, and I would watch another movie with her in it just to see how she does.

Aurora Heimbach and Sandra Mae Frank play twins, and both are bland enough to be interchangeable, except that Sandra Mae Frank is deaf. I DO like the way that they worked sign language into the film, and the moments where we viewed a situation from Frank's perspective were effective. Otherwise they both deliver decent performances; I don't hold this movie against them, but I'm not in a hurry to see anything else they might do.

The male actors...whoooo boy. They need to not be actors. They need to go on a walking tour of the continental US, along with the writers and directors, apologizing for, well, being themselves. Especially Craig Fogel and Derek Long. Those two are just the worst.

Anyway, I wouldn't have gone into all of this were it not for the fake reviews someone either made alt accounts for (or paid someone else for). Balance in all things.

Beware, most reviews are fake
marc547717 May 2019
This is a very low budget and poorly made film with terrible acting and high school level special effects (the few that are there). The reviews written that rate this about 5 are 100% fake.

The premise is a possession type story and has no consistency. I think the writer had no idea how to fill in the time and just copied scenes from other movies and pasted them together. The twist was terrible and the ending was even worse. Now if they had simply been honest and stated that this was a hobby movie then I wouldnt be as harsh and maybe would give this thing a 3/10 but since they clearly wrote fake reviews, they get a 1.

Dont waste your time.

I hate fake reviews
crashdavis184 April 2019
This is your average D-grade 'horror movie' with all of the usual tropes and all of the usual terrible actors delivering horrible lines from a terrible script. I would have given it a 4 for being a run of the mill terrible movie except for all of the fake reviews, so 3 it is. Simply not worth watching.

Total nonsense - How not to make a movie!
omendata26 April 2019
They have tried to use the sign language gimmick but it is just irritating and detracts even more from the annoying actors; all of whom could not act their way out of a wet paper bag. Throw in the obligatory annoying, shaky cam or was the camera man just out of it - probably!

If you check all the 10/10 reviewers they have exactly the same number of reviews of every single film on each of their lists, its a shame the site cannot weed these shills out as I just wasted an hour and half of my life on this utter drivel - they seem to spend most of their time rejecting reviews because of formatting and political correctness as they have rejected this review 7 times now!

I very rarely give a movie 1/10 as that means its the worst movie you have ever seen but this deserves it in spades; it is almost as bad as The Bad Batch with Keanu Reeves but at least it doesn't try to be what it is not and avoids any arty pretention. I very rarely give a 1 star for any movie but this is bad! Anyone giving this a rating above 1 must be a shill!

Terrible
redplanetplasterer9 April 2019
If you want the same old story, with poor acting go for it. The idea is old, the the story old and it will age you. I have nothing good to say about this movie, except the end. Junk, stay clear.

Watch It For What It Is And It Can Be Appreciated
sddavis6328 January 2023
This wasn't as horrible as some reviewers make it out to be - but it's a sign of the times (at least with some) that if you disagreee with them, you must be "fake." Well, I'm not "fake" and I disagree with those who thought this was horrible. Oh, don't get me wrong. It's no masterpiece - but I wasn't expecting it to be. It's about a group of young adults who've been friends since childhood who go off to an out of the way property for a weekend away. While there, they end up conjuring up a demon. So - really - set your expectations according to that plot.

I thought it was reasonably suspenseful and on a handful of occasions even rose to the level of frightening. The cast - similar to the movie as a whole - while not being great weren't as bad as some are making them out to be. Yes, there are several plot inconsistencies. Surely the presence of the triangle in the basement (with something apparently still fresh and rotting within it) should have raised questions in their minds about what was going on? That one really did stick with me and where it came from never was really explained. But again - set your expectations accordingly. Don't expect to be blown away by special effects or astonished by a spectacular and airtight story. Just look at it as a piece of low budget entertainment and you can appreciate this.

Now - confession time. I watched this basically because I became a fan of Sandra Mae Frank from watching her on "New Amsterdam" for the last couple of seasons of its run, and this was the only other piece of work of hers that I could find that was easily accessible. She didn't disappoint as Tara. I find her work as a deaf actress fascinating and quite convincing. That probably made me rate this a little higher than I otherwise would have. Still, I found it an enjoyable enough escape for 90 minutes. (6/10)

Slightly better than the average b movie.
senglert-3551914 July 2019
The film looked promising in the first 30 minutes but quickly became just another teen horror. The acting is ok, nothing great but not horrible. The premise was decent but toward the end it fell apart. The ending is predictable. All in all its worth one watch and that's about it.

Something new in horror
madiimcc3 April 2019
I really enjoyed how this film had more than just the typical stereotypes of a typical horror movie. Of course, there needs to be a jock and a likable girl, but they decided to have a vlogger, adding in unique, first-person shots, a Wiccan, giving more information and knowledge about demons and possession, and, finally, a deaf character. There's so much diversity and an array of personalities that I was unfamiliar with seeing in the horror world, and I absolutely loved it.

A Great Effort! Well Done All..
ommbomb3 April 2019
This film gave me confidence in the young film makers of our world. The acting was very genuine..even though if I had been part of that group the minute reading from an old spell book to conjure demons was suggested I would have made my exit and gone home. Even though they reference Wes Craven and Blair Witch they really should have considered the Evil Dead..which I believe the makers are paying slight homage to. I thought some of the first reviews had to be people connected to the film trying to create a buzz. But I as someone living in Scotland can say it is a damn good low budget horror movie and again I cannot stress how natural and realistic these young actors are..the fact that they can all sign well in relation to the deaf acting is also a bonus. Like any of my reviews this is short. I don't review movies I don't like. Negative criticism is easy in a world of disposable media. I hope all involved in this film go on to do well. Thanks for keeping my mind off my own life and entertaining me for an hour and a half.

Decent effort.
melinamarcello24 July 2019
In horror movies, I feel that sometimes, story is lost in exchange for the scare factor. While seemingly low budget this movie is a solid effort. Horrifying is not a word I would use to describe this movie. Even slightly unnerving is too large a praise, but even so, I found myself enjoying this film. It's cliche, we've seen this before, but it's fun!

There were times when the acting seemed sub par, but a couple of scenes that had me lost in emotion. What I want from any movie is to be able to connect with the characters. I found myself continually impressed with some of the actors and really, while the plot was a bit contrived and cliche, there was a connection with a few of the characters. I really see a future for some of the actors in this film.

Does one of these kids have rich parents who financed this film? Because I can't see anyone else wanting to.

Not that scary, but they tried....
nyjazzman3 August 2019
This is an effort to do a demon possession film on a shoestring budget. It kind of fell short of being totally scary, but had some scary moments. The actors did what they could with the material they had, but couldn't overcome a so-so story. I thought Kate Reynolds stood out for her portrayal. It's watchable, but the first 40 minutes were hard to take. After that, it got more interesting. I thought the last few minutes were a let down. Check this movie out if you have 90 minutes to spare.

a fun horror flick!
maxbryantx2 April 2019
Soul to keep is a fun, Friday night horror movie that doesn't overdo it on the gore or violence but is still able to create lasting scares that are just as terrifying as they are entertaining. After reuniting at their late grandfather's country home, intent on having a weekend full of drug-induced partying, a group of friends quickly find themselves delving into the world of the paranormal as their weekend getaway makes a decisive b-line to...hell. While, its premise may ring bells of Evil Dead, Soul To keep adds several interesting plot twists along the way that keep the viewer locked-in and help to separate the film from others in its genre. It also made the whole movie pretty unpredictable which is fun (also the I definitely didn't see the ending coming). Soul to Keep also adds another interesting element to its film with the inclusion of a deaf actress, Sandra Mae Frank (Tara). However, because the rest of the members of the group are able to sign flawlessly, this element of the film feels like something that happened naturally long ago in order to incorporate their female friend in on the fun; it feels far from gimmicky and very wholesome. All in all, an entertaining horror movie that's worth the watch!

Very amateur film
el_RobV23 July 2019
Super homemade looking and uninteresting. I felt no emotions watching it. Over all it was just a very amateur film that looked and felt like a film students final project in grad school. Netflix has to stop tricking me into watching these kind of movies or better yet stop having these kind of movies on your platform.

terrifyingly captivating
nicolevaughn-107855 April 2019
The most captivating part of Soul to Keep was the unpredictability and plot twists embedded in the storyline. Although using an old myth surrounding demon Beezlebub, the film uniquely correlates it to a group of college students, not only making it highly relatable but also terrifyingly unpredictable. This film does not follow your stereotypical pop-out horror films, and instead brings the classic demonic possession story to an eerie twist. I highly suggest Soul to Keep, as the captivating and puzzling plot grasped my focus until the very end.

some unique twists
ops-525352 April 2019
The first 65 minutes of build up are actually pretty good, especially the dialouges spiced up using sign-language, as one of the groupmembers are deaf. it is a house in the woods like movie, with good jolts and uncomfortable scares, and a few snakelike demons, curling in below, and out above, in a big belsebubian scream of hell.

the actors ive seen in other movies,so they are not newbi's, and delivers pretty good. the quality of sound and photo are at times surprisingly bad, but youll soon forget that. the score gives a good boost to the suspense, and the twists spread out in the movie are original and good.

the only minus about this flick where the last 10 mins, were i lost track of the action, and had to rewind and remind to what and why it became so.

but dont let that scare you away, because this movie will for sure scare you well, so the grumpy old man ,with a tounge filled with thong, does recommend this to your next bottoms up-party at the summer cabin.

Really really Baad'!..
andymaranam4 April 2019
Ok?..it lacks every simple ingredient to make an unoriginal horror film regarding demonic possession. Its definately no Emily Rose, Rise or Amityville, in fact Its quite embarrasing films like this are being made, yet! the 2 stars are for if really bad! films like this were not made,.how would we know what was good?.. so on that note thankyou.

Just as bad as the reviews stated
harryrodriguez-0500416 July 2019
Literally so bad its funny, and not in a cult following type of way. Any rating above a one star must be high, high on drugs, like the producers and the positive critics. Let's just call it what it is, "Trash you throw away".

It's horror folks
ascejim9 July 2019
You can't expect a film like this to be a critical masterpiece. I would rate it a 4, but they casted attractive women, so I bumped it up. I liked the premise and at least it had some sort of twist in the end.

I also got a kick out of reading all the fake reviews. They are so blatant almost sarcastic. Funny.

Solid film
AustinFSU19968 April 2019
I liked it! Not without it's flaws of course, but I liked the ALS stuff and the horror scenes were tense. Dunno why the other people are on about fake reviews, I've seen positive critical reviews online when I looked (otherwise I would've skipped it lol).
