This is the first appearance of Toby Onwumere as Capheus. Aml Ameen who portrayed the character in the first season was replaced by Onwumere for unknown reasons. It is rumored that Ameen and director and show creator Lana Wachowski had trouble getting along. The first time Capehus' face is seen on screen in this episode his friend Jela comments on how different he looks these days to which Capheus simply retorts: "New barbershop."
Lana Wachowski is seen in the scene of New Years Eve in Berlin walking through Wolfgang and Felix on the streets near the end of the episode.
When Lito is in the office with (presumably) his agent and/or publicist(s), he walks up to a poster for one of his movies. It says, "El Hijastro del Diablo jamás Pide Clemencia, which means "The Devil's Stepson Never Asks for Mercy".
The title "Happy F$@&ing New Year" is said by Wolfgang and is the last line of the episode for the first time.
In the first scenes of this episode, Amanita has an elephant sticker on her laptop. It is stylistically similar of Ganesha, the Indian god Kala worships throughout the show. Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, the patron of arts and sciences, and the "deva" of intellect and wisdom.
