Brutal start, then goes downhill
lareval20 October 2021
I do not hate this movie. It´s an uneven but efficient entertainment. But its deadliest sin is to be based on a far, far superior source. The first ten minutes are the best of this film. Then, it falls short on both its politically troubled message and how to close its own character´s arc. Sudden deaths and political subtext as an alibi doesn´t make this movie a grown up, nor a good one. Just a bloated, messy fun film that it could have been so much better.

Condensed, but pleasantly surprised
sonofaslan27 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really didn't expect much considering it was condensing hundreds of pages comic book storyline into a little over an hour. But other than feeling rushed, it wasn't bad. What you have to do is temporarily forget that this story exists in other mediums, like video games and comic series, and take the movie on its own merits. Doing that, it stands on its own.

Superman's descent into madness feels rushed.

If nothing else, let this movie serve as the hors d'oeuvre to entice you to read the comic, which it is better, more in depth, and has representation from almost every DC character.

My favorite part is that it isn't too woke (as DC is too prone to do these days). The discourse between Mr. Terrific and Superman ticks many of the boxes when you consider current events, and what defines a despotic tyrannical government or a police state.

Not as Bad as I Thought It Was Gonna Be
MamadNobari9726 October 2021
So apparently a lot of DC fans hate this movie because it's not the same as the comics and mostly not the same as the games. I've never read the comics or played the games, so I enjoyed the movie for what it was, but I understand why the people who played the games might be angry. My biggest problem with this movie though, is the ending, and since this is a non-spoiler review I won't get into it, but it was rushed and illogical even, and some characters die easily, especially a particular one in the beginning. But that's par for the course with these DC animated movies.

As many have mentioned before, this story should've been told in at least a mini-series, and WB has HBO Max, so why not do that? Why not give an ounce of your multimillion-dollar movie budgets so we can have a good story told in the medium it deserves? The story is too convoluted to be crammed into a 1:18 hour movie. I just don't understand the point of making an Injustice movie that I now realize has so many moving parts and subplots in its story, and make it just an hour and 18 minutes, like how is that logical to the writers and the director?

My main problem with the DC animated movies of these past years is that they all look and sound the same. They're all 1:20 hour or even less, they all lack good characterization and character development, and because of the short runtime, they don't have good storytelling.

It has been like what, more than a decade that WB has been making these animated movies? When is the time to change up this tired formula at last? How many more of these mediocre rushed animations are you gonna vomit to us? It just feels like they make an animated movie every year to not lose the rights to them and they put the least amount of effort into them.

Why not give better budgets and make the movies longer and freshen up your animation movies a little? This movie should've been at least 2 hours or you could've made it into a two-parter like you did with Batman Halloween, which had a disappointing and less interesting story?

My question is, how long are you gonna keep doing this? I'm not looking forward to any DC animated movies anymore and not gonna watch the new ones, because I already know they're gonna be 1:20 minute and be the exact same thing they're been doing for the last decade, I'm really tired of it even though I haven't seen many DC animation.

Someone really needs to get DC off of WB's hands, because they've been butchering these characters for years and giving us mediocre and bad movies, and DC fans deserve better than this. Their movies have been hit or miss and they're mediocre at best, they fail miserably every time trying to make a uniform cinematic universe, and their animated movies are just like this one: too short, convoluted, rushed, and incomplete stories.

I hope at least our grandchildren can see the day when DC is in the hands of a more caring and competent company.

-Robbed Expectations-
marveller-6619 October 2021
I haven't played Injustice but seen those incredible trailers and some game clips. All of that gave me some idea to how things are gonna turn out.

I think this movie was really unnatural, 'cause the pacing was out of place, lack of runtime, convoluted plot, lack of character depth and lack of emotional depth. Hoped this wouldn't be like those ordinary movies yet got something worse. This was a poorly executed movie i wouldn't really recommend.

Surprisingly enjoyable...
paul_haakonsen1 November 2021
Normally I am not a fan of the 'what if' takes on already established comic characters, and I didn't know what the 2021 DC animated feature "Injustice" was one such story. But still, I opted to sit down to watch it with my son, as he enjoys superheroes. Whereas I can watch movies with superheroes, but it is not my first choice, as I find superheroes a bit bland.

Writers Ernie Altbacker and Tom Taylor actually managed to put together an entertaining storyline. Sure, it was generic in terms of something like this has been seen and done before, many times over. But the storyline told in "Injustice" actually proved interesting given the deaths of villains and superheroes alike, as well as the sheer amount of violence and fighting that took place.

The art style in "Injustice" was good and fluid, and that definitely added to the overall enjoyment of the whole thing. There was a slight touch of good old 1980s cartoon over it, while it managed to be fresh and modern, without it succumbing into a child-like art style, such as seen in the "Teen Titans Go" and such.

With "Injustice" being an animated feature, then having a good voice acting ensemble is alpha and omega. And luckily they had a great ensemble put together for performing the voices for this animated movie. I didn't recognize a single voice though, and having looked through the cast list after the movie ended, I wasn't really familiar with a single performer, for better or worse.

"Injustice" actually turned out to be a nice surprise, and certainly one of the more enjoyable of DC animated movies, if you ask me. I liked the dark and gritty feel it had, the violence and mayhem, and the fact that it was aimed at an adult audience.

My rating of "Injustice" lands on a six out of ten stars.

Falls short of being Really Good
pastorwehmas26 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So, as a pre-curser to this review, I have played the InJustice: God's Among Us video games. It might be my favorite fighting game. I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but due to its great story, I accept it. Granted its been a few years since I played the game, I know the story. I had certain expectations.

The start of the film honestly exceeded the expectations. The more they dug into the Tyrannical world that Superman was creating, the more I began to wonder if they were going to make it a two-parter. Because they really spent a lot of time in the Earth-22 universe.

The opening was tragic, it gave very good reason for why Superman did what he did. It plays into the Joker's philosophy that everyone is just one really bad day away from becoming him (if we go with the Killing Joke story). Superman, the ultimate boy scout, has that really bad day. And this opening was dark, it was tragic. I almost gasped at a few points. There are quite a few deaths, a couple of them totally shocked me.

However, here is where it falls short. The story at times feels disjointed. A few characters like the Lanterns and Shazam just disappear. You only get one person come from Earth-1 and that is Superman. It felt so shortened, it felt like way too little.

I wasn't a fan of the animation, or some of the voice-acting. The story with Nightwing, felt like it went nowhere. It felt like someone somewhere was keeping this from being the story it could be. So, it isn't bad. But it is really just okay.

And as a note, this in no way is a deconstruction of Superman as other reviews have noted. Remember that this is a Superman of a different timeline. The movie actually gives you a hint half-way through. Jonathan Kent (his earth Father) is alive, but not Martha. In most stories, either both are alive, or just Martha. This is the first story, I've seen where Jonathan remains instead of Martha. Which may have been the nod to it being an alternate timeline. It also makes one wonder, if that effected how Earth-22 Superman reacted to the tragedy at the beginning.

Ignore the nerd-rage -- it's good!
sortmaster23 April 2022
This is a good comic book movie!

If you have some massive investment in the comic source, maybe this is somehow disappointing; but as someone who came in blind, this is WAY better than the average comic story. The writing is also snappy and the pacing is fast, no complaints from me.

Unfortunately there is a rather large contingent review-bombing it because it's not religiously adhering to the source material. While I agree that can be disappointing, it's blinding them to the fact that this is actually a good movie, and not super cheesy like most superhero animation tends to be.

If you have 90 min and like superheroes you can do so so so much worse than this, give it a shot. I'm glad I watched it before reading the reviews.

Decent film, bad adaptation
jorgesanco19 October 2021
As a movie, it is fine. It is enjoyable in that regard, but it completely failed to grasp the essence of Injustice that is shown in the comics and games. It did have some nice moments, but important events in the story were just severely rushed. As a series, this would have been great, but the extremely short runtime restricted the quality of this film. Overall, it is not bad, but this is not what Injustice should have been.

This movie does to the source material, what Superman does to Joker
Lefteris-Anagnostopoulos19 October 2021
Injustice (the comic) has one of the BEST story-lines in comic history in my opinion. The five-year prelude to the first game is easily one of my favorites of all time. So I can't, for the life of me, understand how they messed this up! How? It's a comic book and you want to adapt in animation!! Just animate what you see, don't change anything and don't try to butcher five books and cram them in a two hour movie! Why isn't this a TV show? Why? Does WB and DC hate money? This must be the only answer because Injustice done right is an instant moneymaker.

I remember a time when every animated DC project was unique and memorable and exciting. Good times.

Just watched and I loved every moment!
jasonhughes-2802726 May 2023
Absolutely loved the movie! I've played some of the games and haven't read the comics for it, but I truly enjoyed every second of what this wonderfully animated films as doing. I really like politically charged superhero content and stuff that challenges the idea of what a character stands for, and this is just absolutely that! If you like the darker side of DC and want something that satisfies characters going against classic depictions, then this is the movie for you. It might not always be source accurate, but it's absolutely fantastic in my opinion as a DC animated film. The ending was just perfect to me and really made me feel that there was weight to what was happening along with all the other events throughout. Must watch!

Mostly faithful adaptation
masonsaul12 November 2021
Injustice is a mostly faithful adaptation that starts really strong but then rushes through the plot of the game and graphic novel and makes some bafflingly dumb decisions and completely wastes a few characters (especially Flash).

However, it's still a fun, emotional and enjoyable adaptation overall with great and surprisingly violent action scenes, good humour and some satisfying callbacks to the game. A few of the changes do actually improve the original narrative.

Justin Hartley, Anson Mount and Janet Varney are all great and Gillian Jacobs, Laura Bailey and Zach Callison are all really good. The animation style is really good and the music by Robert J. Kral and Matt Peters' direction are both good.

I don't understand what they were trying to do with this. Honestly just stay away from this. If you want to see the story done good, play the games or read the comics.

Would be better as a longer live action
JayDeeezy20 October 2021
This was just aight overall. It was cool to see the different take on the story and I thought this new version/spin on things was interesting.

I'm a huge fan of the game series and think it's one of the most interesting concepts in the DC universe - what if Superman succumbed to his own power out of loss and pain and became the villain? Better yet, what if some heroes agree with him and a civil war ensues? However I ultimately don't think this movie takes full advantage of that source material and ends up falling short...runtime included. Can't say I'm a diehard fan of all the DC animated movies but some of them do stand out - I think of Red Hood, Flashpoint and Dark Knight Returns as some of the gems. This one for me falls into the category of "full price blu ray? Yeah right." but a decent Redbox rental.

I'd love to see this done as a longer live action film (or multiple films) with a bit more put into it. I think there's a lot of potential that remains untapped.

It's a very good solo movie.
ryan4809320 October 2021
I played the game and I'm a little familiar with the comics. If you're looking for a movie to play out the exact same way as the comic/game, why? Why must you see a story play out exactly how you expect for you to enjoy it? It obviously keeps the story premise of Injustice and tells it in a little different way. I see nothing wrong with that.

Entertaining but failed opportunity
ajtopp-371-64408320 October 2021
Started off really good, but as it went on they had missed opportunities. Never read the comics but have played the video games so I'm familiar with the source material. Although there are some similarities the film did go off on its own, which I understand you don't want to make just a copy of something else even though it would have made for a better movie. It did feel rushed like some of the other reviewers have mentioned but they only had an hour and 18 mins to work with which is usually the runtimes of a lot of the DC animated films. All in all the movies had potential and didn't make use of that I still found it somewhat entertaining.

disappointing!
aminussh19 October 2021
They couldn't do more injustice to this amazing story, it feels rushed, kills off some of the most important characters in the original injustice story, and overall it seems like they didn't care that much, i think even the animation style doesn't work very well with this characters. Totally disappointing.

Death and Destruction
supermellowcali11 December 2021
Wow. This was much grittier than previous Batman/Superman stories and gives answers to some longtime fantasies: What if Superman decided to eliminate war? What if he didn't get to Jimmy Olsen in time? What if he inhaled poison gas mixed with aerosolized kryptonite? What if he decided KILLING BAD GUYS is justified??? -an amazing departure from the normal DCU.

Haven't played game or read comic
shakedatjunk19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not having any prior expectations for the story, I for sure enjoyed this film for what it was. It definitely had some issues. Some parts definitely felt rushed and like they could have expanded more. I also think they dropped the ball on character development for some characters and felt like they just forgot about some by the end. But I don't have any problems with the story, characters characterization(mostly), or progression and where things went. I also thought the concept of the ending was pretty great with mainstream universe Superman showing up. The only parts that irk me is Flash dying so early and the movie not discussing it at all after. Also them not touching on Dick's new abilities enough and it didn't show how it affected Damian enough. Movie should've definitely been at least 15 minutes longer maybe even up to an hour longer haha.

Really enjoyed it though. Some very surprising and heart wrenching moments. Very emotional and some great action. I like the ending a lot but it was abrupt.

Good start, unbelievably bad ending
benoyum11123 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't read the comics and from the reviews here, I am sure that they are much much more better then the adaptation. But the movie was good in the beginning. The concept was good and accurate for todays world: In order the bring peace and end the wars, more violent wars are have to be made and who is willing to end the small tyrants becomes the biggest tyrant! Ok

And that is that super dude here. He starts to kill criminals because his city is destroyed and more important he was made to kill his pregnant wife... Ok, we understand his motivation... But then in the end, they bring him a kind of a copy of his pregnant wife, then he was ok!!!

What a unbelievably stupid ending that is! Wouldn't it be better he just give up, understand what he is doing or something like that? This kind of ending gives this kind of impression : Ok, if they kill your wife and children, kill them, and kill more and don't stop! Until they bring you a similar wife from another multi-universe!!!

naveedharis20 October 2021
Many plot points were rushed many skipped and many were just overlooked Major things that should have had more impact were not given proper attention But still is enjoyable a good way to refresh without committing much longer time though it deserved to be atleast a 3-4 hour movie and i wouldn't have minded or could be a miniseries like invincible Im not disappointed but im neither impact in a good way.

For Myanmar, For The World, For Independence, For Freedom

I love it. If you love batman and DC watch it but never compare with comic so you can enjoy it.

And the last but not least I want to say,

It has to be done but what is cost? Everything. What do you get?

The Lessons.
