Man versus vicious dinosaur
TheLittleSongbird9 September 2018
Was not expecting much from 'Jurassic Predator'. It just sounded terribly derivative to the point of being a blatant rip off, the cover/poster looked cheap and like something you'd find advertised for a SyFy or Asylum film, it had a low rating and the reviews were less than promising. So in all honesty was expecting something terrible.

Seeing 'Jurassic Predator' with an open mind and fairness intended, it turned out to be not near as terrible as expected. At the same time, didn't find it a particularly good film either. Just for the record, am somebody who hates being critical and is more often than not encouraging and aims to be balanced and tries to evaluate rather than completely gushing or bashing, so will always severely object to being called an armchair critic/expert that is thrown around a lot immaturely.

There are positives. There is colour and atmosphere in the setting and some slickness in some of the shots. The music is not over-bearing, variety-less or monotonous, even when not being exactly memorable.

Some of the acting is okay, most of it is wooden though, and there is the odd thrill.

However, the limited budget shows in particularly the not always very well organised editing and the ropy effects. The dinosaur doesn't steal the show as much as it should and its contribution is not particularly memorable or well used, due to the lack of genuine suspense and horror and its viciousness downplayed too much. The human characters are underwritten and have little development or endearing personality with frustrating and illogical decisions and behaviours, despite the actors' best efforts.

Also found too much of the dialogue on the wrong side of dumb and cheesy, complete with some soapy moments, and that it didn't flow very well. Parts are too silly, others take themselves too seriously that it becomes dreary. The film is extremely derivative, interesting premise with far too over-familiar execution that has nothing new. The lack of imagination and suspense also hurts the film, too much evokes cringing and the thrills are sporadic, with a lot of predictability and contrivance. The direction felt like they were not in control of the material and not at ease with the genre.

Overall, not a disaster, not a thrill side. Instead on the lower side of somewhere in between. 4/10 Bethany Cox

It's a low budget film. We have to compromise.
nogodnomasters6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A T-Rex is on the loose in the wilds of Devil Creek, England. They need to get a special group lead by Frank Hawkings (Lee Bane) to find it because T-Rex was well for its hide-n-seek capabilities.

Much of the film Frank putting together his own group. The special effects were 1960's Japanese style. The acting and dialogue were bad. The film comes across as if it was written by two people, one wanted to make a spoof and the other a serious low budget film. It didn't work. They should have stuck to a spoof. I liked the funny scene, what was that about?

Guide: No sex or nudity.

CALL A VET!

Warning: Spoilers
"Xtinction: Predator X" is the original 2010 title. The film is being recirculated as "Jurassic Predator" as things with "Jurassic" in the title are being bought up. This isn't much of a story. One lone clone experiment predator kills locals. Sheriff (Lochlyn Munro) investigates. There are bad guys. Laura is the ex-wife (Elena Lyons) and Lacey Minchew sits around tied up in a bra having been "used."

I didn't see the end coming out of the blue. The film is SyFy made for TV quality. I don't know how they missed this gem.

Guide: No swearing sex, or nudity. Woman in bra. Implied rape and groping.

dumb characters
hollypageturner27 June 2018
Low budget cheapie with probably the most idiotic soldiers ive ever seen. some of their decisions made me want to tear my hair out. but on the plus side the situations which came out of their stupidity did give me some proper laughs. you can tell it was played for the jokes and if you check your brain in at the door it can be a fun film. I actually think the weakest parts of the film are where its trying to be serious, the comedy scenes and acting are far more entertaining. just don't expect any of the characters to do anything sensible!

The acting is high school quality though the story line, script, special effects (nothing special really ) and terrible sound quality hamper the acting - one can't help feeling sorry for the cast. Consigned to a charity donation bag .That's 80 minutes I won't get back in my life!

Jocular Predator
superman122 December 2018
This homemade film is a parody of movies, and a disrespect to dead dinosaurs. The write up explains what the movie can't show and promises what it can't give. Even the film's start is a write up. The name is taken from another, real movie, also called Predator X. Why not call it Rubberhead Rex?

A guy working at a multi-story housing estate or some ordinary building where they haven't even bothered to put up a sign, with absolutely no equipment, just empty rooms, makes the upper third of a dribbling rubber dinosaur, plus part of the back. It escapes its flimsy single chain, leaving lots of static intestines and limbs behind, and grows off screen somehow, apparently. All this insanity puts Asylum at studio level, relatively, who at least use whole dinosaurs.

But the worst is yet to go. If there is a T rex head on the loose, with no legs or arms or tail, well no body, why call on the Army and Air Force? Ex-crims are badder and better than soldiers. This crack-smoking team of soldiers is The Halfwit Half-Dozen or Stupid Six (I can't recall), The Fooling Five (I didn't count), or The Insignificant Seven (I didn't care). So, picking on stupid mistakes The Cocky Cockneys make after is even more stupid.

This film is a threat, not a fact. What a complete cockup, cocker.

The film does highlight a current disturbing trend that any quality is acceptable: A filmmaker who doesn't bother to learn his craft and clone a real dinosaur while staying within the limits he must can only make prolific failures. How this amateur shocker is released on DVD is even more disturbing.

Guide: No swearing sex, or nudity. Oh, but gore galore is heaped on after no fact.

Thought this was a movie in the "Jurassic Park" series....
uric8326 June 2020
Well, I was wrong. A low budget ($100,000) film that looks like it was made by a high school AV club. Simplistic plot. Filming of the dinosaur was not too convincing. Acting was bad in a lot of parts.

But, in fairness to the film, it did hold my attention well enough that I watched the entire movie.

Enjoyable low budget monster fun.
parry_na22 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Incredibly prolific director Andrew Jones adds his own spin on the wealth of 'parody' films that have been popular over the past few years. Sometimes known as 'mockbusters', these are low-budget projects with titles mimicking those of high profile productions, often at around the same time as their release, in the cheeky hope of catching some of that bigger movie's notoriety. Examples are 'Transmorphers (2007) and 'Paranormal Entity (2009)'.

Lee Bane, who co-produces and co-directs, and without whom few Jones films would be complete, once more plays a hard man, Hawkins, a dangerous ex-soldier sent on a mission to locate a wayward escaped Tyrannosaurus Rex in and around the woodlands of Devil's Creek. He hand-picks a group of men to aid him, including musician/nutcase Rankin, played by another Andrew Jones (semi) regular Lee Mark Jones. Rankin is a musician, as is Lee Mark Jones, and his band 'The Mescalito Vampires' provide much of the excellent music here.

This is great fun, one of the most enjoyable of Andrew Jones' vast catalogue. It makes something of a virtue of it's low-budget trappings - indeed, a bunch of cash-strapped film-makers are amongst the creature's victims - and I must admit, I was intrigued to see how something as ambitious as a 'fully grown' dinosaur would be visualised here. The creature actually looks pretty decent. No hint of CGI of course, the T-Rex is filmed from below and features only fleetingly.

The acting is also pretty good throughout, although in a handful of key-scenes, the dialogue is drowned out by the music, which lets things down a bit. There are some genuinely funny moments, but one of the most poignant scenes is played dead straight. Reminiscing about a fallen colleague, Bane gives, I think, the best performance of his career so far.

According to IMDB, The film became the top selling Direct-to-Video title in the national UK DVD chart on its first week of release, opening at #22. Andrew Jones' star continues to rise, and I am very pleased about that.

Fun Dino B flick!
matthew_lillith30 June 2018
Andrew Jones did it again with another great film. Jurassic Predator is a low budget fun ride and thoroughly entertaining film. good story, nice special effects and good acting for most part. Been a fan of Andrew Jones for quite some time, especially of Cabin 28 and the Robert series. Jurassic Predator is more comical and moves away from the horror genre and into action/ comedy terrain. Always glad to see Nathan Head, albeit he only had a minor part in this one despite being advertised as one of the leads. Hope to see him in bigger roles again in future North Bank productions. The film is not without it's flaws, it drags a bit in places and jokes are hit or miss. what's up with the geezer in the painted face and why is he wearing that ridiculous bandanna? it's like make up your mind, are you camouflaging or what? Also could have done without the songs. Recommended.

Very amusing parody
jonathanbardham14 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Although it has been advertised as a serious movie this is actually a sharply observed parody of the dinosaur genre with a lot of genuinely laugh out loud moments. At one stage the producers even poke fun in their own direction as a low budget film crew are decimated by a T-Rex. There are some okay moments of action but if you're looking for a tense Jurassic Park style movie then this is not going to make the grade. It's clearly intended to be a comedy and can be enjoyed on the same level as the movies you see from The Asylum like Sharknado.

stupid but difficult to dislike
gordongantry14 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The characters make some seriously dumb decisions in this film. the army guys try to tackle a giant t-rex with normal rifles and it takes the entire film for them to work out they should call in back up and blow the thing up! the soldiers are also incompetent and one of them even shoots another one by accident! but putting aside the frustrations from stupid characters doing stupid things I found the film hard to dislike because it tried to be funny and for a lot of the time it did succeed in being entertaining. not a bad effort.

A good B movie
welshdevil-1034214 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is a good example of a B movie. I wont go into a long winded synopsis for you because you can find that yourself. Yes the film has issues but name me a low budget B movie that doesnt. The stock footage used is questionable. There are several anchorism errors which could have easily been avoided. There's a t-rex which notoriously have short useless arms (exept this one manages to swat a guy) and the fact that somehow the t-rex manages to walk down an interior corridor with a low rooof without causing any damage. Watch it yourselves and see what you think. Dont expect a huge budget production, excpect a B movie with funny one liners and a decent story with good acting.

Let's Do the Monster Mash
thelogfirecabin21 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Warning: this is NOT a horror film. Instead, it's a huge send-up of, well, maddening things about life in 2018, and oh, monster movies too. The thespians in it seem to have had a blast tracking down the eponymous resurrected T-Rex,all the while while engaging the play-within-a-play theme, performing to non-existent audiences, being served unpronounceable coffee, and hiding their modesty with items found on a clothesline. Do not expect realistic frights - that is not what Andrew Jones is about. He's got a sense of humour bordering on Almodovar, Hitchcock and Ian Fleming. Moreover, in this film, he has managed to recruit as an actor the veteran rock musician Lee Mark Jones, whose acting bristled with energy and delight, and who also, with his band, provided some slick numbers for the soundtrack. There were actually some cunning POV shots from the dinosaur's perspective, and some crisp cinematography, completely unexpected from such a small crew. But things get so tongue-in-cheek by the end that you are rooting for the dinosaur to survive, rise up, and use its strength to tackle what we really fear: council tax, cold callers, people who bilk on their debts to you. An absurdist delight. 7/10.
