I am puzzled by the low rating this excellent little film has on IMDb; i have just finished watching this, can cannot find any fault with it, whatsoever.

Yo Soy Pepito (YSP) is a spanish-language (subs available) comedrama about Pepito, a 10yo boy who lives on his own in Mexico City. His mother is in hospital, and he survives by selling cigarettes and other amenities in the evenings. Pepito is smart, witty, and absolutely adorable, and while people love him, they are also exasperated by his rebellious nature.

The story is well laid out, properly paced, well acted (specially Pepito, the lead), discrete filmography, high quality (if traditional) production, a "good film" in a very classic sense. The script is coherent, with Pepito finding himself in a challenging situation and cleverly coming out on top.

The setting also help with the film's charm.

There are some vibes reminding me of Amelie, the Audrey Tatou film. YSP's lead is this quasi-magical character, despite the film keeping down to earth.

There are some .. "dramatic" elements, but they are there to punctuate what is otherwise a comedy, from preventing it from becoming boring.

So .. i cannot see why YSP has this low of a rating here on IMDb. This is really a well made, interesting film. And you don't need to be a "special interest" person to enjoy this.

If you are looking for a nice, feelgood film that has a quirky charm to it, and are happy to put up with subtitles (the dialogue is fairly easy to understand even without), then i totally recommend Yo Soy Pepito.

My vote: 7/10 - a nice daytime comedy.
