Zero budget south-of-the-border UFO shenanigans
Leofwine_draca7 April 2017
Warning: Spoilers
THE GARDEN'S KEEPER is an example of what happens when you try to make a science fiction film on zero budget. The lack of money precludes any kind of special effects whatsoever, so instead what we get is a found footage style movie in which a bunch of sci-fi geeks (who regularly quote THE X-FILES, no matter that the show had its heyday over two decades ago) travel to Mexico and encounter various weird stuff out in the sticks.

The thrust of the narrative is about a UFO hunt but in actuality the only ominous content comes from a creepy masked gardener who just so happens to be the titular character. There's a fair bit of parody-style humour and lots of wooden acting to counterbalance it, but overall not much very happens at all.

The luck of the draw

After a quick hike in "Stoned Mountain" I like to pick movies at random and 40% of the time it works EVERY time, it's a small thrill but I like to live dangerously.

In this case it paid off, granted the movie is not exactly CGI heavy and I assume the budget was under 6 figures but I was entertained throughout the whole thing, the plot was intriguing, the dialogue was funny and so were the characters!

So go ahead with your "Netflix & Chill" you pansy....but then again I dare you to resist the allure of the unknown, a tangy mix of sci-fi, humor & a group of geeks with questionable character that may or may not die a horrible death..........But do they?

Wouldn't you like to know...

Funny because it's true

It has a "funny because it's true" kind of comedy within a science fiction pop culture package. It starts with every-day elements but then they tangle with extraordinary situations that evolve all together into a sense of it's own at some point of the story arc kind of like Doctor Who and reached a feeling of "anything could happen" and did't knew what else to expect at that point because really anything could happen adding the suspense element into the experience. I liked it because it really seems like the sky is the limit for the creators of the film but still the plot kept it's sense by making everything fall in place at the end.

Keep 'em coming!

I'm a sucker for anything scary or Sci-Fi, but lately it feels like I've seen them all so I'm glad I ran into this one, not that it was easy to find either!

As with most nightmarish situations it all begins quite innocently, when a naive group of friends go in search of the unknown......Well this group of "friends" is definitely not one posse I would like to be a part of and I'll just leave it at that!

Without giving anything away I will say this, if you are a fellow geek who loves zombies, aliens and hates hippies you will love this, the writing is fast pasted witty and will keep you engaged from beginning to end.
