Mildrith comes from a humble background, but she makes up for it with a nature of goodness and generosity, Uhtred cannot help but fall for her, she's soon with child. Uhtred witnesses a hoard of Danes marching towards Wessex, soon enough they take a fortress at Wareham. Guthrum together with Ragnar has led the Danes to victory, but the charismatic Ubba is away, avenging his brother's death in Ireland. Guthrum and Alfred agree a month's truce, but at a cost, ten vikings are swapped for ten Saxons, King Alfred once again proves he is the master tactician, Uhtred is sent in among the ten, he is to escape when he hears news of Ubba's return. There Uhtred is reunited with Ragnar and Brida and learns they are now together. When word comes of Ubba's imminent return Guthrum orders the death of the hostages, Ragnar intercedes and allows Uhtred's release.

This has become my number one show of the week, I utterly love it and it's getting better and better. Amy Wren truly is a worthy addition is Mildrith, adding a bit of glamour, has to be said the prettiest person to date has been Alex Dreymon! Finally some competition.

Unbelievable filmography, the production values are jaw dropping, it oozes class, from the villages to the ships on the sea, it looks exquisite. I'm even loving the music, it's all helping to add to the incredible atmosphere.

Brilliantly acted, I've mentioned Dreymon and Wren (terrific) this week I thought Tobias Santelmann (Ragnar) in particular was awesome, such a strong and charismatic performance. David Dawson as always shines through as Alfred.

Is it just me or is Odda reminding anyone else a bit of Ant and Dec? I digress.

Utterly brilliant. 9/10

Tenuous truce
Calicodreamin28 September 2021
A tenuous truce is formed and Uthred plays every which way and even sideways. The large time jump felt odd.

Too much cheese.
nicksims-3914129 December 2019
Really enjoying the series up until episode 5 of series 1. Why couldn't they leave the childish hero theme out of an otherwise great series? Up until this point I felt the target audience was adults.

So much potential in this series, very disappointing. The Hollywood cheese means I will watch no further. No need for an indestructible hero, seen enough superheroes.

Predictable and boring for me, although teenagers will love it I am sure.
