Women are not always victims
blaxblew22 February 2022
"For my man" is an interesting show that has a revisionist history slant to it. Every episode consists of a woman who had absolutely NO idea that she was involved with a supervillain until she got arrested with him. She didn't notice the drugs, she didn't notice the guns, she didn't notice ALL of his assorted crimes, which usually include murder. She didn't notice ANYTHING! It really strains credibility and it's quite insulting to victims of crime.

Warning: Spoilers
A show about fragile, broken women being manipulated and deceived by their lovers/bf/husbands.

From killing, to robbery to fraud. Women fall for the bait and in most episodes they both end up in prison full of regret. (Or dead a couple of times). The show present the majority of the time of young black women who grew up in a troubled childhood. They seek acceptance/attention and end up finding a demon who often use them as bait.

Sure the show is entertaining when you are naive. However, this shows that the environment from home to community is very toxic.

What can be learned? How to make smart decisions even if you are broken.

Verdict: There is a doppelgänger of this show called "For My Woman". It's basically the same premise. Only difference is innocent blindsided men are used like bait.

Every episode exploits African American couples and stereotypes
tmikesic25 August 2023
I enjoy this show a lot actually. However I noticed every episode is of african american couples. I think i saw one episode where the women was a minority asian woman and the man was still black. To me this seems exploitative of the issues black women face in relationships. Most the black men are shown as drug dealers etc Just seems odd there isn't a single white couple, yet the cops and detectives are all white.

However this show is all (based) on true stories. The best part is it has many family members and sometimes the criminals themself (if they didn't get life in jail)

Another issue i have with this show is it doesn't memorialize the victims who are real life victims that died in these stories. It will just say something like "he was a nice guy" and then go back to blaming the black man for everything.
