07 August 2023 — Today, Canadian-Dutch-Korean singer-songwriter, Jeon Somi, is back and better than ever, as she releases her brand-new EP entitled Game Plan along with the music video for the energetic lead single, “Fast Forward”.
The 5-track EP follows Jeon Somi’s 2021 debut album, Xoxo, and marks a new chapter for the pop superstar, as she has evolved both musically and as an artist, offering a more elevated look and sound. She also partook in songwriting 3 of the album’s tracks showing her growth as an singer-songwriter. Hitmakers Teddy, 24 and R.Tee contribute to the album’s production and are recognized as the team behind the global hits of Blackpink.
In addition to the EP, Jeon Somi also releases the music video for lead single, “Fast Forward”. The track is an upbeat dance-leaning anthem reminiscent of Madonna’s classic hit, “Vogue”, and the music video is a perfect representation of Jeon Somi’s evolution,...

The new Netflix series “Xo, Kitty” takes some notes from the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” film trilogy, but it also branches out for youngest sister Kitty’s (Anna Cathcart) adventures to Korea. After getting the same scholarship that her mom got to study abroad at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, Kitty jets out to surprise her long-distance boyfriend Dae (Minyeong Choi), who happens to attend Kiss. Things get a bit more complicated when Yuri Han (Gia Kim) dreams up a fake dating scheme to distract her mother from other parts of her life, and she chooses Dae to be her fake boyfriend.
And just like the “To All the Boys” movies, the “Xo, Kitty” soundtrack is great.

We wonder what Serena van der Woodsen and Chuck Bass would have to say about this. On Feb. 16, Chace Crawford revealed on the Xoxo with Jessica Szohr podcast—hosted by Jessica Szohr who played Vanessa on the series—that he and Leighton Meester had an "instant" connection while auditioning for the CW's Gossip Girl back in the mid aughts. Crawford, who starred as Nate Archibald, said that during the final audition in Burbank, he kept thinking, "Who's going to play Blair Waldorf?" "They let me into this massive waiting room," Crawford recalled. "And there was this one girl in this chair at the very end, with her back to me...and...

Gossip Girl herself would be proud of how many secrets the cast of the O.G. Gossip Girl have been spilling on the Xoxo podcast. Hosted by Jessica Szohr, who played Vanessa in the oh-so-dramatic series, the podcast has been revealing all the behind-the-scenes details of the CW show, which ran from 2007 to 2012, but will always have a special place in our hearts. The latest bombshell? Aside from the casting director David Rapaport sharing that Jennifer Lawrence almost played the part of Serena van der Woodsen (which ultimately went to Blake Lively), Ed Westwick also dished on his on-screen "chemistry" with co-star Leighton Meester, who played Blair Waldorf opposite his...

Remember when the Parents Television Council declared Gossip Girl "mind-blowingly inappropriate"? Well, in retrospect, Jessica Szohr thinks they had a point. Having looked back on her days playing Vanessa Abrams in the racy CW series, she can safely say that her kids are not allowed to binge the series. "Being a mom, when I watch it back I'm like, 'Well, we're never ever going to watch the show," the star told E! The star, who recently launched the Gossip Girl podcast Xoxo, marveled at how executive producers pushed the envelope by...

All good things have to end at some point. Black Widow reveals the reasons why the MCU has potentially overstayed its welcome.
“These are the words that rang out in the first full trailer for Black Widow, released all the way back in March 2020. Now, more than a year later, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally revealing Natasha Romanoff’s hidden past and the identity crisis that comes with it. It’s a rollicking action-adventure, full of great set pieces and emotional moments, but watching it, I couldn’t help but feel like we’ve been here before, and not just because it’s set just after Civil War and before Infinity War.”

It feels like 100 years ago that I read, and loved, Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China, a book by Jung Chang about a Chinese family (her own!) that spans a century and focuses on the endeavors of three female generations. First published in 1991, the novel contains the biographies of the author’s grandmother and mother; and her very own autobiography. This novel, which won the Ncr Book Award in 1992 and the British Book of the Year in 1993, has amazingly been translated into 37 languages and has sold over 13 million copies.
Spanning the generations
The appeal? Discipline and endurance, two principles that are great for learning. Did your grandmother manage a life with bound feet in which she was married off alarmingly young so as to be the concubine of a high-status warlord? Did your mother, age 18 and pregnant, endure a strenuous six-month journey over five mountain passes during the 1949 war against Kuomintang?...

This past February, the Jayhawks observed a band milestone — their 35th anniversary — in the way that any fan of the low-profile roots-rock group might expect them to celebrate a music industry achievement: by not acknowledging it all.
Despite making music together for as long as Jagger and Richards had been when the Rolling Stones released 1997’s Bridges to Babylon, the Jayhawks’ Gary Louris and Marc Perlman, the two founding members still in the Minneapolis group, don’t get all that excited about their longevity. The Jayhawks are out Tuesday with “This Forgotten Town,” the second track off the band’s forthcoming album Xoxo. They previously dropped the Elliott Smith-esque tune “Living in a Bubble.”
The mid-tempo jangly roots-pop gem opens the band’s first album of new material since 2016’s Paging Mr. Proust. The song features vocals from lead singer Gary Louris and drummer Tim O’Reagan.
“Introducing different voices throughout the song added a new dimension to telling the story,” says the band’s bassist Marc Perlman, who co-wrote the song with Louris.

Are Kristen Stewart and Stella Maxwell over — again?
The Twilight star, 29, was spotted in New York on Thursday kissing screenwriter Dylan Meyer. Stewart sported jean shorts, a yellow T-shirt and black sneakers, while Meyer opted for a black tank top, shorts and white Vans.
Reps for Meyer, Stewart and Maxwell did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.
Stewart’s new flame comes just under a month after she was seen kissing ex-girlfriend Stella Maxwell while on vacation in Italy, which sparked rumors that the couple, who reportedly broke up in December 2018, were back together, according to Elle.

Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds used his band’s Top Rock Artist win at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards to blast conversion therapy. Reynolds has been an outspoken advocate of Lgbtq+ rights, particularly in his own Mormon community, and was behind the HBO documentary “Believer” which exposes the painful ostracization and hatred of gay people in the Lds church. In March, it won a GLAAD Award for Best Documentary.
Taking to the stage at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, Reynolds stated, “There are 34 states that don’t ban conversion therapy,” referring to the pseudo-science that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation from homosexual or bisexual to heterosexual using psychological or spiritual means. “Our Lgbt youth have doubled the rate of depression, tripled the rate of suicide after conversion therapy,” he continued. “It’s not working and needs to change.”

Twitter users who identify themselves as Lady Gaga fans are taking to Twitter in droves to talk smack about “Venom,” a comic book movie starring Tom Hardy that is opening in theaters this weekend against “A Star Is Born” — starring, of course, Gaga herself.

The online trolling of Sony’s comic book film appeared to follow Monday night’s “Venom” premiere as a groundswell of Twitter accounts tore down the villain movie in a multitude of tweets.

Sarah Hyland is starring in the romantic comedy “The Wedding Year” with Robert Luketic directing for Lakeshore Entertainment.
Luketic, whose credits include “Legally Blonde,” “Monster-in-Law,” and “The Ugly Truth,” will direct from a Don Diego screenplay. Lakeshore will be presenting “The Wedding Year” for sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, in parallel with the rest of the company’s slate.
“Modern Family” star Hyland will portray a Los Angeles photographer who’s never getting married. So, when she and her new ready-to-settle-down boyfriend are invited to 15 weddings in the same year, the pressure is on to make some big decisions.

Back in September, Major Lazer and Showtek teamed up to deliver “Believers,” a hard hitting collaboration that struck a balance between trap and dancehall. The two musical forces have joined up again this week to offer up an official music video for the tune, which takes a stance on the current state of affairs in Syria.
The concept for the “Believers” video draws inspiration from the Syrian conflict, specifically the infamous image of Omran Daqneesh, which depicted the young boy covered in ash and rubble after he survived an air strike attack. The video follows a young boy and juxtaposes shots of his family and community against imagery of destruction and mayhem.
Compared to previous Major Lazer videos, the clip for “Believers” is far more emotionally and politically charged than we might have expected. Director Christopher Louie, the man behind Netflix’s Edm film Xoxo, revealed in a quote that...

Lean too hard into the chaos of it all, and you wind up with a nonsensical mess that barely hangs together as a coherent narrative. Steer too clear of the debauchery that it entails, and the resulting film is a toothless, flaccid imitation. More than most, Xoxo – the latest “Netflix original film” to hit the streaming service – tows that delicate line, delivering a fun (albeit lightweight) ensemble comedy/drama.
Like an Edm version of Love Actually, the film follows a disparate group of strangers as they make their way to Xoxo, the nation’s biggest festival devoted entirely to electronic dance music. Though a disclaimer at film’s end declares that its production is not affiliated with the real-life Portland-held event, it’s clear that this atmosphere was likely the inspiration for filmmaker Christopher Louie’s directorial debut.

Even though Zac Efron's We Are Your Friends failed to connect with audiences when it was released in theaters last year, Netflix appears to be convinced that there's a potential audience for film's set in the world of Electronic Dance Music. This week a new Netflix original film, Xoxo, debuts, and it takes another stab at showing audiences how much fun it is to immerse yourself in Edm.
The new film is a feature-length comedy that follows the antics of six young people as they try to get their DJ friend on stage at the nation's biggest Edm festival (from which the movie gets its name). The role of the DJ, Ethan, is played by Graham Phillips (The Good Wife), and the ensemble cast also includes Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) and Chris D'Elia...

“The Eagle Huntress,” the extraordinary true story of Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl who trained to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, is coming to theaters this fall.
Screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Sony Pictures Classics acquired the documentary back in February and has just released the first trailer. Set against the breath-taking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, the film is narrated by Daisy Ridley and directed by Otto Bell.
The story follows the young girl as she rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. While many old Kazakh eagle hunters have rejected the idea of a women taking part in the sport, Aisholpan’s father Nurgaiv believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she’s determined.

Netflix is trying to capitalize on the recent popularity of Edm culture with a film that looks better than We Are Your Friends. Of course, I have no way of knowing that, but this trailer looks promising. In Xoxo, Graham Phillips plays a teen producer whose song lands him a spot to perform in one of the largest Edm festivals in the world. We also see Sarah Hyland from Modern Family as a festival-goer and comedian Chris D'Elia featured as well.
The story looks like the classic coming of age in a new era, and the effects look pretty decent. I don't know much about this life, and this trailer made me feel old and out of the loop at 26... Let me know how it makes you feel.
Xoxo comes out August 26th on Netflix.

America’s love affair with electronic dance music may be surprisingly persistent (even in light of this whole thing), but the public’s response to movies about the world of Edm has been comparatively tepid. Zac Efron’s We Are Your Friends failed to get anyone sufficiently hyped for the big drop to kick in, and now Netflix is sitting down at the turntables and computer boxes or whatever to put its own spin on this musical phenomenon with an Edm movie called Xoxo.
In this trailer for the coming-of-age drama, we see a young DJ getting a chance to perform at a huge Edm festival called Xoxo. Along the way, he runs into Sarah Hyland (an Edm fan breaking out of her shell), Ryan Hansen (some kind of Edm superstar), and Chris D’Elia (a guy who likes to yell at kids about how Edm is great and how...

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes, and clips and puts it all in perspective. According to both popular music and Hollywood movies, you cannot underestimate the power of clubs. If you just made lots of money, if your company went public, or if you just got famous, you know where have to go? A club. At the club, there are scantily clad people, trays of shot glasses, and cash money thrown around like leaflet paper. If your life is on the upswing, you can't avoid going to this place. I guess it's not as cinematic to show a newly minted, wildly successful person simply browsing the Amazon store for socks. I mean, that's the first thing I would do. (I didn't get to be this successful wasting my money in clubs.) Edm festivals are just like clubs, but they're all day long, involve younger people,...

Shaolin’s the DJ that we call conductor
‘Cause Shaolin Fantastic’s a bad motha–
Amid the many lyrics sung, said and slung in “The Get Down” — Baz Luhrmann’s enthusiastic retelling of how hip-hop was created from an energized blend of disco and soul music — no other is packed with such transformative passion as the above one-two mantra. Stated as simply as a line reading but immediately recognized for the poetic potential within, the string of words form a declarative statement not only for The Fantastic Four + 1 — a street crew led by the aforementioned Shaolin Fantastic (Shameik Moore) and his wordsmith, Books (Justice Smith) — but an embodiment of what makes “The Get Down” a wholly unique and deeply compelling feat of television.

Meeting your significant other’s family can be tough, especially when they have a quirky brother who keeps landing you in a series of unfortunate events. Paramount Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films released the first trailer for the new comedy, “Brother Nature,” which deals with a similar situation.
Taran Killam stars as Roger, a straight-laced politician who has big plans to propose to his dream girl (Gillian Jacobs) at her family’s lake house. But everything goes awry when he meets his potential brother-in-law Todd (Bobby Moynihan): a full-time camp counselor with a heart of gold and a wild sense of fun, pining to be Roger’s best friend, and ultimately catapulting him into a series of ridiculous misfortunes. Roger soon realized that being part of this new family may be harder than he thought.

“I always loved posters just like I love scores and soundtracks,” Nicolas Winding Refn once told IndieWire. “It’s just something around cinema that is more about your imagination, more about what you’re going to be seeing rather than what it is you’re actually seeing. I find that very intoxicating.” Unfortunately, the art of the movie poster has become something of a dying breed in the age of blockbusters and studio tentpoles. For every couple ingenious one-sheets, there seems to be about a hundred carbon copies.

“Alias Grace” follows the true story of poor Irish immigrant Grace Marks who, along with domestic servant James McDermott, was convicted of murdering her employer Thomas Kinnear and housekeeper Nancy Montgomery in 1843. While James was hanged, Grace received life imprisonment for her role in the crime. The conviction was highly controversial and Grace’s role in the murder was up for strong debate as to whether she took an active part in the crime or if she was simply an accessory. She was later exonerated after 30 years in jail.
